El Cafezito s a hidden gem known for its exceptional coffee and delicious crepes. Customers consistently praise the friendly and courteous staff for their attention to detail, which results in consistently perfect drinks. The menu features a variety of authentic specialty drinks with unique flavors like mazapan, horchata, and pistachio, as well as classic lattes and mochas. The crepes come in both sweet and savory options and are noted for being chewy, flavorful, and filling.

URBO Urban Bodega in downtown Phoenix has a menu that includes espresso drinks, iced frappes, smoothies and hot food. That opening sentence probably raised an eyebrow or two among the craft coffee crowd. Fair enough. A coffee shop inside a convenience store is not exactly the usual territory covered on this site. But URBO earns its place here and I will explain why.
First, the machine. The espresso bar runs on a two-group La Marzocco Linea. If that name means nothing to you, just know it is the same industry workhorse sitting behind the counter at many of the serious third wave shops in the Valley. Consistency, shot quality, proper milk steaming. That machine does not end up in a bodega by accident.
Second, the beans. URBO uses WeBe Swingset, a blend from the acclaimed WeBe Coffee Roasters which I reviewed separately on this site. It is a medium roast made from washed and natural processed specialty grade coffee. Tropical fruit, caramel and milk chocolate are the characteristics/notes that come through. These are real specialty and well sourced beans. The kind of thing you would find at a dedicated craft shop.
Third, and this one actually matters quite a bit: the hours. Hot espresso drinks are available until 6:30 PM. Cold brew runs all the way to 11 PM. By the time most third wave shops have flipped the sign and wiped down the portafilters, URBO is still pulling shots. For late study sessions or long work stretches downtown, that alone changes the math.
The food side covers breakfast sandwiches and fresh pizza (a Margherita or a prosciutto, if you want to make a moment of it). There is also a small front patio with a few benches where you can sit in the shade and watch the foot traffic and cars move along Fillmore St.
Is it a specialty coffee destination? No. Is it a smart, practical option with better coffee than it has any reason to serve? Absolutely. Sometimes that is exactly what you need.

Every city has that one pocket of downtown that breaks its own rules. You are technically in the urban core but the noise drops, the streets get walkable and there is lots of shaded green space. Welcome to the Valley Coffee Company neighborhood. Roosevelt Row energy on one side, Hance Park and the Japanese Friendship Garden on the other, all stitched together by Portland Parkway Park (the leafy little corridor running right past the patio).
The shop opened in 2021 as the area was filling in with mid rises. The owner is Donny Peper, an NAU grad who actually walks here from his place down the street. Most coffee concepts dropped into new mid rises feel parachuted in by a developer with a spreadsheet. Valley Coffee feels like the opposite. Like a guy who actually drinks coffee in his own neighborhood opened a shop.
The space leans into local. There is a partnership with ArtLink that turns the walls into a rotating gallery, complete with QR codes on every piece. The patio is a slam dunk on a nice morning. And the bar... oh, the espresso bar. Valley Coffee runs double tap Modbar undercounter espresso taps. If you have never seen them, the whole guts of the machine hide below the counter and all you see are sleek black taps poking up. It looks like the future. It removes the wall between the barista and you. It is gorgeous.
So the stage is set. Neighborhood, art, patio, Modbar. And then the coffee landed.
The beans are from Firecreek pulled on the Boxcar blend (medium roast, Central and South American). My small latte had real flavor underneath. Dark cherry and a faint chocolate note with a creamy texture. But it came out scorching hot, the kind of hot that pushes milk past 170 degrees scalds the proteins and kills the sweetness you were supposed to taste. A note on sizing. Both sizes get a double shot. This means the medium just buries the same coffee under more milk. The small is the right move.
We also tried the Banana Split Latte. Commercial syrup, sweet as the name suggests, but credit to Boxcar, the espresso still pulled through the candy.
Honest take? Valley Coffee Company is a dream palace one or two coffee decisions away from being a top five Phoenix shop. I am imagining a slow bar with a single origin pour over option, dialed in milk temperatures and a few more drinks built on the local honey they already stock instead of the syrup bottle. That version is unreal.

I am imagining a single origin option or two on the menu with a light to medium roast profile (think Moxie's El Nevado, a CODECH out of Guatemala or any clean Ethiopian Guji, Sidamo or Harrar). Add some real care around the milk temperature so the drinks stop scalding, and you have a serious coffee program. Bonus points for a slow bar tucked in the corner. Double bonus for retiring a few syrups in favor of drinks built on the local honey they already stock. That version of Valley Coffee is my dream.
Until then, you go for the neighborhood, the food, the art and the lovely patio. And honestly that combo alone is worth the trip.

Located within the Pueblo plant shop, Caffio Espresso Bar offers a unique coffee counter experience set on a lush garden patio. This hidden gem centers on classic espresso drinks on lever espresso machines while featuring a selection of creative specialty lattes (the Il Caffioso with Mexican chile and the L'ape Lavender Latte are standouts). See full menu below. The shop provides a small assortment of pastries and a truly unique and relaxing atmosphere surrounded by plants.
What makes this spot particularly special is the story behind the counter. Owner Anthony Fiorelli founded the business as a tribute to his Italian heritage, operating the bar out of a vintage 1985 VespaCar (Piaggio Ape) parked right inside the shop. It is a beautiful blend of traditional Italian coffee culture and a modern desert oasis. Between the greenery and the authentic vibe of the Vespa, it is a perfect place to slow down and enjoy a carefully crafted cup.

Songbird Coffee & Tea House has been a Roosevelt Row staple since 2012 and it is not hard to see why. The shop lives inside a restored 1904 bungalow on N. 3rd St in the arts district and has a beautiful front porch for when the Phoenix weather cooperates.
Inside it feels like being welcomed into a well loved home. Art on the walls, cozy corners and the kind of calm that downtown Phoenix does not always make easy to find. It is a good work or study spot and the neighborhood energy around it makes stepping outside feel like a bonus.
The pastries are house made and the coffee comes from Infusion Coffee Roasters in Tempe which is one of the more serious and respected names in the Arizona specialty scene. The espresso drinks are well made and consistent. But the tea program here is exceptional and deserves equal billing. Loose leaf selections come from Maya Tea Company out of Tucson and the menu is extensive enough to satisfy anyone who takes their tea as seriously as their espresso. Kombucha comes from Milly Moon Kombucha, a local Valley producer and is made using organic tea and whole organic fruits. Every partner on the menu is a small Arizona business and that is a good choice.
Songbird has been around long enough to become a neighborhood anchor and it has earned that status the right way. Quality, consistency and a space that feels like it belongs to the community around it. Go and enjoy that porch.

What happens when a downtown coffee shop becomes the neighborhood living room for an entire generation of creatives? Lola Coffee sits at 1001 N 3rd Ave in the Roosevelt neighborhood. This is the flagship location. The original. The one that has been holding down this corner for over a decade.
Owner Daniel Wayne started in coffee around 1992 with a six foot espresso cart in front of the Hub Building downtown. That cart expanded into multiple locations over the years. Lola Coffee became the named brand and the Roosevelt shop turned into a central Phoenix community hub.
This is a family owned operation. Daniel often works behind the bar himself. The brand is built around pursuing the perfect espresso and creating a neighborhood gathering spot. It feels like an old school downtown staple where the regulars know each other by name.
The espresso leans classic Phoenix third wave. Balanced with a touch of chocolate. Baristas move quickly but still remember usual orders. It is a reliable stop before a light rail ride or a walk through the Roosevelt Historic District arts venues. The Japanese Friendship Garden is walkable from here.
The 3rd Ave shop has served as a community living room for students, creatives, and downtown workers for years. It embodies the original Lola vibe. Not chasing trends. Just making solid coffee and providing a space where people can actually gather.
Service can vary depending on staffing and timing but the coffee quality remains consistent even when the service experience does not.
Lola Coffee represents humble beginnings that evolved into something lasting. From a single cart to multiple locations. From a hustle to a neighborhood institution. The Roosevelt location is the heart of that story.

This incredible local gem is a warm and welcoming space, filled with stunning local art that honors its deep Mexican roots. The coffee menu is a work of art in itself, featuring flawlessly executed classics alongside inspired specialty drinks like the rich Café de Olla and the unique Pistachio Espresso, all made with high-quality Mexican beans and house-made ingredients. What truly makes Xolo special are the people. The owners and staff are renowned for their genuine kindness and passion, making every guest feel like a cherished friend. For a truly authentic and soulful coffee experience, a visit to this phenomenal shop is an absolute must.

Mis Raices Cafe is located at the edge of downtown Phoenix in the Grand Avenue Arts District. The name translates to "My Roots" and the cafe was founded by Clara Sanchez to celebrate her Mexican heritage. That spirit shows up everywhere from the colorful murals on the walls to the warm energy you feel the moment you walk in.
The menu leans into Latin inspired drinks and it is the best part of the visit. I tried the Horchata Latte and it was well balanced and genuinely good. I drank it to the last drop. I also ordered a latte with a double shot pulled from Mexican Chiapas beans (medium roast). I am typically not a fan of Chiapas beans but I enjoyed this one. They also serve a traditional Cafe de Olla for anyone looking for something classic and comforting. The beans come from local roaster Espressions Coffee Roastery.
Mis Raices is the kind of place that feels personal. It is small and honest and proudly rooted in the culture it represents. Grand Avenue has no shortage of creative spots but this one stands on its own.

Provision Coffee is a roastery, cocktail bar and restaurant housed inside a striking two story glass building in Phoenix. The interior is bright and filled with lush greenery. High ceilings and floor to ceiling windows make it feel more like a botanical atrium than a coffee shop. The space looks like it was originally designed as a building lobby or reception area in a corporate setting that got adapted into a coffee shop. Whatever it was before, it works beautifully now.
Provision operates as a coffee roaster, cocktail bar and full restaurant. The food program is strong. They source from respected local names like Noble Bread and Chula Seafood. Brunch classics like Avocado Toast and Smoked Salmon Bagels are on the menu. Expect higher prices but the quality of ingredients reflects that.
The coffee side is where I have mixed feelings. They roast their own beans which is a plus. For daily service they run a high end Eversys Enigma super automatic machine. A super automatic does everything at the push of a button. It grinds, tamps, extracts and steams milk with no barista hands on the process. For a high volume operation it makes sense from a speed and consistency standpoint. But for a place that brands itself as specialty coffee, it is a letdown. A super automatic will give you a clean and repeatable shot but it will not give you the kind of nuance and control that a skilled barista can pull from a traditional machine. They do have a single head Mavam under counter espresso machine on site as well. The Mavam is a proper espresso machine and a beautiful one at that (it sits hidden beneath the counter with only the group head visible). I asked for my drink to be made on it and they were happy to do so. I am not sure what their standard policy is on when they use the Mavam versus the Eversys. My guess is that during busy periods they default to the super automatic to keep up with volume.
I will be honest. Both of our drinks were just ok. Nothing bad but nothing that made me stop and think about what I was tasting. We visited on a Saturday late morning and the place was packed. I never got a chance to ask which beans they use for espresso. My honest take is that you go to Provision for the atmosphere and the food. The space is genuinely stunning and the restaurant menu delivers. But if you are coming specifically for the coffee, temper your expectations.
One thing to know before you go. Provision limits wifi access to keep tables available for dining. There is no wifi on Fridays and weekends. This is a place designed for you to sit down, eat well and look up from your phone for a while.
I have walked into hundreds of coffee shops in Arizona. Very few of them made me pause at the door just to take in the room. Provision did. The coffee may not be the reason I come back but the feeling of being inside that building is. Some spaces just do something to you. This is one of them.

Cultivate Coffee is so much more than just a coffee shop. It is a true cornerstone of the Sunnyslope community and an absolute must visit. From the moment you walk in, you feel the warm and homey atmosphere created by a genuinely kind and welcoming staff. Their passion is evident in every cup crafted from high quality beans they roast themselves and for true coffee lovers, their expertly prepared pour over is a revelation. Sip Coffee and Beer Garage in Phoenix feels like someone turned a service bay into a hangout and then never stopped adding reasons to stay. It is open and a little industrial but somehow still comfortable enough to disappear into your laptop for hours.
By day it is a full on coffee shop. And they are serious about it. Two La Marzocco Lineas sit behind the barista counter. Not one. Two! Maybe they needed the volume. Maybe they just really like La Marzocco. Either way, two is better than one.
Custom blends, espresso drinks and a steady stream of breakfast burritos and sandwiches keep the place humming. The drive thru adds that very Phoenix convenience so you can grab an Breakfast Burrito and a latte without leaving the car. Then circle back later to actually sit and hang out.
The patio here is genuinely beautiful. Shaded and comfortable with that Arcadia energy around you. Dog friendly too. The kind of outdoor space where you sit down for a quick coffee and look up an hour later wondering where the time went.
As evening hits, things get interesting. There is a whole cocktail lounge hiding under the cafe.
The playlists stay loud enough to feel alive but not chaotic. For a one stop Arcadia spot that covers coffee, work time and a proper night out, this place does the job without breaking a sweat.
