The Best Organic Coffee Shops in Arizona

Why It Is Hard to Find a True Organic Coffee Shop

Out of the 375 cafes I have cataloged across the state, I managed to find only five true organic coffee shops. It is surprisingly hard to find a fully organic coffee shop when I travel. Many places use organic beans but ruin the drink with standard syrups or conventional milk. I wanted to highlight the places that do things right. These organic coffee shops focus on clean ingredients, single origin beans and high quality organic milk. If you are searching for organic coffee during your Arizona travels (or just want a healthier morning routine), I hope that this list will point you in the right direction.

My 5 Favorite Organic Coffee Shops

Nuova Simonelli
Nichim Cafe in Yuma, AZ is one of those rare finds that makes you want to tell everyone you know. The menu alone is worth the stop off the I-8. Yuma does not get the coffee love it deserves. But if there is one shop in town making a serious case for the city, it is Nichim Cafe on S. Foothills Blvd. Owner Karime Burruel originally grew up in Mexicali and you can feel that pride and care in every corner of this place. Ms. Burruel runs the cafe with her daughter and together they have built something genuinely special. Her commitment to quality starts with sourcing. She imports her coffee beans directly from a roaster across the border in Mexico, focusing on single origin Chiapas beans grown in the mountains of that southern Mexican state. The beans are organic. The milk is organic. The chicken in the sandwiches is organic. The equipment matches that standard too. The espresso shots are pulled on a Nuova Simonelli and every chiller and piece of equipment in the shop is quality stainless steel (none of the cheap restaurant-grade stuff here). On our visit we put the menu to the test. The Chicken Sandwich was delicious and everything on it felt like quality right down to the sourdough bread. The Arugula Toast with egg (avocado and cherry tomatoes on sourdough) was excellent. The Sprouts Toast with egg was fabulous. The boiled egg addition to those toasts is a great call and I would not skip it. The Mango Smoothie was creamy and delicious. The hot latte made from those Chiapas beans was exactly what you want from a single origin pour. And the Mocha Frap deserves a special mention: it is well balanced, not too sweet, made from all natural ingredients with no syrups and no added sweeteners. Think of it as what a Starbucks frappuccino would be if it actually cared about you! The cozy shop also functions as a mini market. You can grab a dozen organic brown eggs sourced from Golden Valley Browns (a local Yuma farm), sourdough bread and English muffins from The Rustic Pantry, jars of marinara from Mama's Bella Vita, local honey in several varieties and handmade soap bars from McMatos Farm. The desserts come from Tater Bryde Bakery & Sweets and they are top notch. What Ms. Burruel has done here goes beyond running a great cafe. She looked at her community, found the best of what it had to offer and brought it all under one roof! Local farmers, local bakers, local makers. The result is a place where a single visit gives you a genuine taste of Yuma at its finest. That is a rare thing anywhere. The shop sits right off the I-8 Foothills Blvd exit with a brand new Chevron right next door. It truly could not be more convenient for travelers passing through. Just know that Nichim Cafe closes at 3:00 PM daily (2:00 PM on Sundays). This is a shop worth building your schedule around. Set your arrival time, plan your stop and do not let the clock beat you. You will regret it if it does. ▶Click to View the Drink Menu Note: Menu items are subject to change. Some items could be seasonal and may not be available. Kyoto Brew! Nuova Simonelli
Sedona
Sedona already sells you on the idea that nature knows best. Wildcraft Kitchen just took that idea and built a menu around it. This little cafe in Uptown Sedona is doing something that sounds simple on paper but is surprisingly rare in practice. Everything is organic. Nothing is cooked in refined seed oils. No refined sugars. Made from scratch. The kind of place where you read the menu and think... wait... someone actually thought about all of this? They did. The coffee comes from FreeForm Coffee Roasters (yes, the same FreeForm I raved about on this site). So right away the espresso bar is starting from a very good place. The full lineup is here: cappuccino, cortado, flat white, latte, mocha. They offer A2 organic milk which is a detail that will mean a lot to the people it matters to. And then there is the Desert Rose latte which sounds exactly like something Sedona would invent and I mean that as a compliment. The Kyoto cold brew deserves its own moment. Kyoto style cold brew is a slow drip process that takes hours and produces something smoother and more nuanced than your standard overnight steep. Finding it here felt like a small gift! Matcha drinkers are not forgotten either. The Summer's Matcha (named after the owner) is on the menu alongside fresh juices, smoothies and keto friendly options. This is a full wellness bar that happens to also pull great espresso shots on a gorgous Nuova Simonelli. But Wildcraft is not just a coffee stop. The food menu earns its place. Breakfast burritos, salmon toast, brunch plates built around clean ingredients and honest cooking fats like coconut oil, ghee and olive oil. The kind of breakfast you feel good about an hour later. It gets busy at brunch and the cozy atmosphere makes it easy to understand why people linger. If you are visiting Sedona and you are trying to eat clean without sacrificing flavor or atmosphere, Wildcraft Kitchen is not just a convenient option. It is the option. Nature inspired the menu. Wildcraft made it delicious. If you are looking for more great spots in the area, check out my full guide to Coffee Shops in Sedona.

ORGANIC COFFEE La Marzocco
Scottsdale
Firefly Organic Coffee & Market in Scottsdale has a menu built around one simple idea: clean ingredients. It sits right off the 101 at Pima Center, and it feels like a small organic coffee bar collided with a health focused pantry in the best possible way. The coffee program runs on beans from Momentto Coffee Roasters. It is a roaster invested in sustainable, low acidity and mycotoxin free coffee. These beans will prevent the "post-cup regret" and your gut will thank you. The espresso blend (called Espresso Forte) is medium bodied and smooth. Organic milk throughout. The menu is focused. Espresso, americanos, cappuccinos, lattes. No sprawl, no gimmicks. If you are usually the person quietly hoping the shop you walked into uses decent milk, Firefly is going to feel like a relief. Then there is the Firefly Glow Latte. Espresso, honey, vanilla, cinnamon, sea salt and a collagen boost thrown in for good measure. It is their most popular drink and I can see why people love it. Personally, I found it to be a lot of things happening at once (the cinnamon is not shy and apparently there are 8 grams of protein quietly lurking in there). Whether that sounds incredible or mildly chaotic probably tells you everything you need to know about whether it is your drink. Either way, it is fun and it is theirs. The market side is what makes Firefly genuinely hard to categorize. Raw cow milk in glass bottles. Eggs. Grass fed beef from Arizona producers. Jars of local raw honey. It is not a full grocery store. The selection is focused and carefully chosen. What makes it different from the coffee counter inside your local Fry's is that this is a coffee shop first. A real one. Run by real people. On my visit, Ashley (who co-owns the place and is also known for her work with Jigsaw Health, a wellness and supplement company) was behind the bar making drinks herself. The product mix looks like it was curated by someone who actually uses everything on the shelf. The health culture thread runs through the whole place without ever feeling preachy. This is not an Old Town stroll in flip flops kind of spot. Firefly lives in a business complex at Pima Center right off the freeway. For some people, the narrower menu, limited hours and single location in a business park will be a downside. For others, especially anyone trying to keep their food and drink on the cleaner side, that is exactly the appeal. If you want a well made organic latte and the ability to walk out with raw milk and real pantry staples in the same trip, Firefly is absolutely worth a visit. ▶Click to View the Drink Menu Note: Menu items are subject to change.
