Some coffee shops are buildings. This one is a time machine. Oak Creek Canyon Coffee House sits inside Don Hoel's Cabins, a stretch of 1924 log structures that has been welcoming travelers to northern Arizona for a full century. Don Hoel (pronounced "hole" for the record) ran the property from the 1940s until 1983 and turned it into a real destination. His family kept it alive into the early 2000s. Current owner Erick Harrell stumbled into the kind of property most developers would have bulldozed for a resort by now. Instead he kept the name. Kept the cabins. Kept the soul.
The coffee program is real. Beans come from Matador Coffee Roasting Co. up in Flagstaff and shots pull on an Astoria Perla. The menu is short. Good coffee. Good service. No barista is buried under fifty drink modifications at once. You order a latte, you get a latte, and it is a properly built one.
But honestly, the coffee is not the headline. The setting is. You sip across the road from Oak Creek as it cuts through the canyon. Pine trees. Creek sounds. That deep silence you only get when the nearest stoplight is twenty miles away. The kind of peace that makes you forget why you opened your inbox this morning.
Location wise, you are one mile from the West Fork Oak Creek Trail, which lands on every Arizona hiking list ever written. So the crowd is a mix. Hikers fueling up before, hikers cooling down after, locals who know the spot, road trippers who got lucky. The property also has a vintage general store for trail snacks and other essentials.
So yeah, you can go for the coffee. But really go for the cabin. For the creek. For the strange and slightly humbling feeling of drinking espresso in a place where the architecture predates anything else you have done this week.

Cream & Cake Couture is a dessert shop and cafe in the Tlaquepaque Arts Village, known for its handmade ice cream and visually appealing desserts. The coffee menu features standard espresso-based drinks prepared on a Rancilio espresso machine. The shop's primary focus is on sweets, offering items like cupcakes, cheesecakes, artisan waffle cones, and shakes.

Bike & Bean is Sedona's oldest bike shop, open since 1995, and somewhere along the way someone decided to add a coffee bar to the front. So now you have a full service mountain bike shop on one side and a friendly little espresso setup on the other. The world class red rock trails are literally out the back door. If you ride, this place is a base camp. Rentals, service and real trail knowledge from people who actually ride out there. The owner I chatted with is a great guy, very nice, and he knows everything about the bikes and the local trails.
The coffee blend composition is unknown to the shop but it comes from a small local roaster called Proper Drop, and the menu offers two options. A medium roast and a dark roast. I had a small latte. It was just ok. Honestly, I would not drive here for the coffee.
Here is the thing though. If you are already out there, the bike shop side is the draw and the coffee just complements the visit. The space is welcoming and down to earth. There is solid Wi-Fi, a comfortable sofa, great bathroom, air conditioning that hits hard (a real Arizona luxury) and a pastry case stocked with cinnamon, blueberry, banana nut and chocolate muffins from a local baker. Bikes scattered everywhere. Plenty of seating. Shots pull on a La Spaziale S2. The vibe is half cyclist clubhouse, half neighborhood cafe.
So go for the bikes. Stay for the muffin and the AC. The coffee is a sidekick at best. But sometimes a sidekick is exactly what you need.

I know, I know... this is a coffee shop website and this spot is about 90% tea. But their vibe was so good I just couldn't leave them out! For my die hard caffeine addicts, the coffee menu is short and sweet: it's either the traditional Hot Turkish Coffee or making your chai "dirty" with a shot of espresso. Forgive me for the tea-ward detour!
The Chai Spot is a truly special and magical social enterprise. It is a place designed to transport you to Pakistan through vibrant colors, authentic decor, and traditional flavors. The shop was founded on a beautiful mission of peace building and connection, with a portion of profits supporting women and children in Pakistan. The atmosphere is cozy and serene! but I like to think about it as relaxing & therapeutic as well (when not busy)! You can kick off your shoes and lounge on colorful cushions while sipping from an incredible menu of authentic and made from scratch chai. The menu features unique options like the creamy Butter Chai (Kashmiri) and the aromatic Sulaimani Chai. This is an awesome Sedona experience for anyone seeking a taste of authentic culture and a moment of peace. The Chai Spot closes at 6:00PM daily. Allow extra time for finding parking as the the beautiful Tlaquepaque Arts & Crafts Village can get really busy.

Here is the thing about Sedona. The town itself is beautiful and worth every visit, but the Village of Oak Creek is where you go when you want Sedona without the chaos. It is calmer, quieter and a little more grounded. And right in that village community is where you will find Big Park Bakery.
This place is a local gem. The atmosphere is peaceful and inviting. You walk in and it just feels good. Now, they do serve coffee. The espresso drinks are made with the medium roasted Firecreek Boxcar Blend (I reviewed Firecreek Coffee separately on this site and it is worth your time). The drip coffee uses Firecreek's Storm Chaser Blend. And here is a fun little bonus: buy a 12 oz bag of beans and they throw in a free small drip coffee. The machine pulling the shots is an Eversys Cameo, a Swiss-made superautomatic that runs over $21,000. For a bakery, a superautomatic actually makes a lot of sense. You want consistency without dedicating a trained barista to the espresso bar. Every latte comes out the same. I had one with the Boxcar Blend and it was fine. Decent. But honestly? That is not why you are here.
You are here for the pastries! I had the Cream Cheese and Fruit Croissant. It had plum pieces on top (or maybe cherry? I don't know) and it was absolutely amazing! Not "pretty good for a small town bakery" amazing, just flat out amazing. We also got the olive tapenade croissant and that one was fabulous in its own savory way. The croissants here are authentic European style: flaky, buttery and the kind of thing you find yourself thinking about on the drive home.
Speaking of the drive home, I also bought a loaf of their artisan bread to take with me. Spectacular. No notes.
I would honestly go back to Big Park Bakery just for the desserts alone. The coffee is a nice supporting act, but the baked goods are the whole reason to make the trip.

Let us be honest. Living Chocolate is not really a coffee shop. It is a cacao shop, a wellness shop, a chocolate shop and a Sedona shop in the truest sense. Yes, coffee is on the menu, but it is sharing the spotlight with things you do not see at your average cafe.
The whole place revolves around the owner Shari and her love for cacao is the kind that rubs off on you the second you walk in. She knows her stuff and she will happily walk you through any of it.
I came in for the ceremonial cacao which is what you should do too. Shari scooped a paste portion from a container in the fridge and steamed it using the high pressure steam wand on the Astra GA espresso machine. The result was rich, dense, thick and velvety with complex undertones running underneath. I am pretty sure there was a touch of honey in there for sweetness. Here is the cool part though... About 5-10 minutes in, I noticed a warm, calm and clear feeling and a noticeable mood lift. No jitters. No espresso crash. That is the theobromine doing its thing. It dilates blood vessels and works very differently from the central nervous system jolt you get from an espresso shot. Cacao has very little caffeine, so what you are feeling is something else entirely.
The wellness rabbit hole goes deeper too. You can add a medicinal mushroom blend to any drink (Lion's Mane and other adaptogens) and there are Ayurvedic soma shots on the menu, with authentic flavors and quality ingredients. The goal here is holistic wellness, and Shari means it.
Now to the coffee, since this site is, after all, about coffee. Living Chocolate sources beans from Clay Coffee Roasters. The bean of choice is the Guatemala single origin at a medium dark roast. Shots are pulled on the Astra GA. Do not expect third wave fireworks here. It is a comforting and familiar milk drink that pairs really well with a piece of chocolate.
Speaking of, I grabbed a handful of pieces from the case and the runaway winner was the Keto Pecan Truffle. Shari uses quality single origin and blended cocoa across the line to craft these things which is cool.
If you are in Sedona and you only have time for one stop, make it Living Chocolate. Order the ceremonial cacao, add a truffle and let Shari tell you about cacao for ten minutes. You will walk out warmer than you came in.

Sometimes a shop tells you what it is right in the name. Layla's Bakery Cafe puts the bakery first. And after one visit, that order makes a lot of sense. This is a family owned whole grain bakery and they specialize in incredible European style pastries and sourdough breads made from scratch.
The space is a real charmer. Towering ceilings, soft natural light, corrugated metal panels up high and clean white walls down low. The floors are stained concrete tiles. There is Indigenous art on the walls, traditional pottery on the shelves, desert landscape paintings and green plants spilling off ledges. Cozy booths with light cushions hug the perimeter and dark high-top counters anchor the middle of the room for the in and out crowd. It is industrial meets Southwestern and it works.
The front patio deserves its own paragraph though. It sits slightly below ground level, so you are not getting any sweeping views but it might be one of the nicer patios I have parked at in a while. Birds, trees, plenty of umbrellas for shade and tables to spare. The staff is warm and welcoming on top of it all. A great spot to camp out for an hour.
Now to the coffee. Layla's runs Metador beans across the board. The espresso is Metador's Traditional Espresso, a light roast with promised notes of cinnamon and citrus. I am a light roast guy so I was pumped to see it on the bar. I ordered a small latte and it was just ok. The cinnamon and citrus that pulled me in did not show, or maybe got overpowered by the milk. It was not bitter and the balance was decent though. Just a polite and quiet cup. The drip is a different story. They run Metador's Sedona Blend, a medium roast of Mexican Altura and Papua New Guinea (PNG) beans, and the two origins fill in each other's gaps in a really pleasant way. The Mexican side keeps things bright and clean. The PNG side adds some weight and a little rustic depth. It holds up to milk or cream and or just straight black. It was a solid approachable cup and honestly the better move if you are stopping in for caffeine. Oh, and most syrups here are house made which is a nice touch.
But here is the thing. You are not coming to Layla's for the espresso. You are coming for the bakery. The Kouign Amann (pronounced queen ah-mahn) is the headliner. It is a French pastry that lives somewhere between a croissant and a caramelized sugar cake. Crunchy shell, dozens of flaky layers inside and a sweetness that knows when to stop. I would drive back just for this!
I also grabbed a Caprese sandwich on a whim. It was one of the few sandwiches they had without meat and I went in with low expectations just by the looks of it behind the glass. I left amazed. A thin layer of pesto, top quality mozzarella and the kind of bread that makes you stop mid bite to look at it. A really great sandwich that completely caught me off guard!
So here is the deal. If you are picky about your espresso shots, grab the drip or skip the coffee altogether. If you are here for the pastries and the food, you are in for a treat. Layla's is a bakery first and a really good one at that.

Sedona already sells you on the idea that nature knows best. Wildcraft Kitchen just took that idea and built a menu around it.
This little cafe in Uptown Sedona is doing something that sounds simple on paper but is surprisingly rare in practice. Everything is organic. Nothing is cooked in refined seed oils. No refined sugars. Made from scratch. The kind of place where you read the menu and think... wait... someone actually thought about all of this?
They did.
The coffee comes from FreeForm Coffee Roasters (yes, the same FreeForm I raved about on this site). So right away the espresso bar is starting from a very good place. The full lineup is here: cappuccino, cortado, flat white, latte, mocha. They offer A2 organic milk which is a detail that will mean a lot to the people it matters to. And then there is the Desert Rose latte which sounds exactly like something Sedona would invent and I mean that as a compliment.
The Kyoto cold brew deserves its own moment. Kyoto style cold brew is a slow drip process that takes hours and produces something smoother and more nuanced than your standard overnight steep. Finding it here felt like a small gift!
Matcha drinkers are not forgotten either. The Summer's Matcha (named after the owner) is on the menu alongside fresh juices, smoothies and keto friendly options. This is a full wellness bar that happens to also pull great espresso shots on a gorgeous Nuova Simonelli.
But Wildcraft is not just a coffee stop. The food menu earns its place. Breakfast burritos, salmon toast, brunch plates built around clean ingredients and honest cooking fats like coconut oil, ghee and olive oil. The kind of breakfast you feel good about an hour later. It gets busy at brunch and the cozy atmosphere makes it easy to understand why people linger.
If you are visiting Sedona and you are trying to eat clean without sacrificing flavor or atmosphere, Wildcraft Kitchen is not just a convenient option. It is the option.

The Rose Vortex is a cafe in Sedona with a focus on wellness-oriented drinks. Its menu features a variety of herbal elixirs, smoothies, and specialty lattes. Many drinks incorporate rose and nootropic ingredients like shilajit and functional mushrooms. Standard coffee options include espresso-based drinks and cold brew. The shop also serves cold-pressed juices, avocado toast, and locally baked vegan pastries. The atmosphere is consistently described by customers as peaceful and magical.

Sedona is one of those places where the scenery does a lot of the heavy lifting and Sunnie's Coffee Shop knows it. Park yourself on the patio and you are staring straight at the red rocks. So let us talk about what is in the cup. Sunnie's runs a Schaerer superautomatic, which is not what you would expect from a non-chain coffee shop in 2026, but here is the saving grace: Their beans are sourced from FreeForm Coffee Roasters which is one of the more acclaimed roasters in the state. Good beans have a way of showing up no matter what is pushing the water through them. I am just cataloging Sunnie's for now and have not sat down for a proper visit yet. Fay Cafe in West Sedona is a coffee shop, plant store, and bookshop in one beautifully calm space, serving expert pour-over coffee with beans from FreeForm Coffee Roasters.
Sedona coffee shops often fall into two camps: rustic markets or new-wave minimalism. Fay Cafe combines the two and then adds books and plants, which is frankly my ultimate happy place. This spot is a unique trifecta all rolled into one beautiful space in West Sedona. I instantly connected with their philosophy. They focus entirely on supporting local Arizona businesses, sourcing everything from their baked goods to their furniture and gifts right here. They even partner with Sedona's own FreeForm Coffee Roasters for their beans.
Now for the coffee. I fell completely in love with the pure dedication to the ritual here. They are purists: they serve pour-over coffee exclusively, rejecting automated batch brewing to ensure the freshest cup possible. If you have not had the privilege of trying a pour-over, it is quite an experience. This is the preferred method for coffee professionals to test new beans because it strips away variables and allows you to truly taste the subtle notes and characteristics of the coffee. It offers a cup defined by clarity and vibrancy. Since everything is ground to order right in front of you, watching that pour-over process is an art form.
I tried both the simple black pour-over and one of their lattes and both were stellar. It is incredibly rare to find a latte that highlights the subtlety of the coffee bean. Their version uses four roast choices and dairy alternatives like oat or almond milk and achieves that perfect balance.
Beyond the drinks, the atmosphere is a tranquil dream. The interior is filled with handpicked house plants (over 100 varieties often in stock) and a curated library of new and used books. The comfortable calm environment is perfect for settling in.
Just remember to plan accordingly. Fay Cafe is open Wednesday through Sunday from 8:00 AM to 3:00 PM and is closed Monday and Tuesday. If you show up outside those hours, you will just have to buy a plant instead.

Oak Creek Espresso is a local coffee shop in the Village of Oak Creek. The company roasts its own coffee beans on-site. The menu includes a full coffee bar and a large selection of homemade pastries. There is a strong focus on gluten-free and vegan baked goods. The shop also serves homemade ice cream affogatos and floats. It has a charming atmosphere with ample indoor and outdoor seating.

I mentioned briefly in my Big Park Bakery review that the same owner runs Firecreek next door. What I did not get into is the full story. His name is Mike Funk, he came down from Seattle, landed in northern Arizona around 2008 and built something that has grown into six locations across the state.
This location in the Village of Oak Creek is the Sedona area flagship. The outdoor patio has those iconic red rock views that make you feel like you accidentally wandered into a postcard. Inside is cozy and warm though the place earns its crowds during peak tourist season, which is just the nature of being this good in a town this beautiful.
The coffee program is built entirely around their own roasts and all the syrups are made from scratch in house. No commercial syrups here. If you order a flavored latte, everything going into it was made by them. That is a nice detail and you can taste the difference.
It is worth knowing that Firecreek is very blend-forward. They love their blends and they lean into them hard. If you are the type who shows up looking for a single origin pour-over situation, you might be a little underwhelmed on that front. But if you are here for a well crafted espresso drink with a house made syrup, this place delivers.
There is also a "Pay It Forward" board in the cafe, a small but genuinely nice touch that says something about how they think about the people around them.
Firecreek started in the north part of Arizona and expanded south to Phoenix later. This location still feels like the heart of what they built. Do yourself a favor and grab a seat on that patio, order something good and let the Sedona views slowly sink in.

FreeForm Coffee Roasters in Sedona, AZ is one of the best specialty coffee shops in Arizona. Fresh roasts, single-origin espresso options, and a slow bar that means business.
Some coffee shops make you feel welcome. FreeForm Coffee Roasters in Sedona makes you feel proud. I walked out of there thinking: yes, Arizona can absolutely hold its own against any coffee city in the world! And I mean that.
Let me start with the machine. A Victoria Arduino Eagle espresso machine sits behind the bar and if you know, you know. If you do not know, just trust that it is the kind of equipment that signals a place is serious without needing to announce it.
Owners Daniel and Monica Garland have built something genuinely special here. They have since moved their roasting operations from Sedona to a larger facility in Cottonwood, AZ which tells you the operation is growing. But the soul of it is still very much present in this shop by the Open Gate Sculpture roundabout.
Now here is where it gets fun. You get to choose your espresso base from their single-origin options. That alone puts FreeForm in a different category from most coffee shops. I went with the Ethiopian Suke Quto for my latte. It is a microlot from the Guji highlands, processed using a limited-oxygen fermentation that pulls out floral aromatics, sparkling fruit character and dark chocolate depth. Light roasted. Phenomenal. Perfectly balanced. One of the better lattes I have had in a long time.
I had my eye on the Mon Cheri seasonal blend for a second latte (notes of amaretto, cherry, almond and milk chocolate). Turns out it was not available as an espresso base option that day. These things happen with seasonal and specialty offerings. No hard feelings. It is actually available as a pour over, which is probably the right format for beans that expressive anyway. And it gives me a perfectly good reason to go back.
Speaking of pour overs, the slow bar here is impressive. Multiple single-origin options. This is a proper destination for coffee aficionados. The kind of place where you can go deep if you want to, or simply order a Vanilla Rose Latte and a muffin without anyone giving you a look. FreeForm famously upholds a no coffee snobbery policy and I love them for it.
All the coffee bags for sale are beautifully packed and smell incredible. They are days fresh from the roast. I already had plenty of single origins at home but I still bought a 12oz bag of their Breakfast Blend Aurora (Brazil, Peru and Ethiopia). Named for the Roman goddess of dawn. Nutty, chocolatey and low in acidity. It was calling my name and I answered.
The space itself is small but well done. Comfortable seating inside. And then there is the upstairs outdoor area that overlooks the Tlaquepaque shopping center and Oak Creek. We ended up walking to Tlaquepaque after (about a 5 minute walk) and crossed a beautiful pedestrian bridge over Oak Creek where the water was moving fast. A perfect pairing with a great cup of coffee.
Now let me tell you about the part that actually made me respect this place beyond the coffee. Accourding to their website, FreeForm donates 1% of coffee sales revenue to vetted regional nonprofits working in environmental stewardship and human rights. They offset the carbon footprint of every package they ship. They have planted 15,300 trees in partnership with Eden Reforestation Projects. They pay all employees a minimum of $25 per hour (well above Arizona's minimum wage) and offer employer sponsored healthcare. They source at a minimum of twice Fair Trade standards.
This is a business that actually walks the walk.

Black Potion Sedona is a coffee shop combined with a crystal and metaphysical boutique. The shop has a relaxing new age atmosphere. The menu features classic espresso drinks and creative signature lattes like the Smoked Praline and Madagascar Vanilla. It sources its specialty coffee from a Phoenix-based roaster partner (Peixoto Coffee) whose beans originate from a family farm in Brazil. In addition to coffee the shop sells crystals and offers services such as aura readings.

Cuptown Coffeehouse is a cozy Uptown Sedona cafe with red rock views, free parking, local art on every wall, and coffee that keeps pulling you back for more.
Sedona is a tourist town and most of the coffee spots on 89A feel like it. Cuptown does not. It sits just off the main strip with free and easy parking. There is a front porch where you can stare at Snoopy Rock while your latte cools down and a vibe that feels more neighborhood than highway. That alone separates it from a lot of the competition.
The beans come from Late for the Train, a acclaimed Flagstaff roaster. The coffee here is consistently good in a way that sneaks up on you. You walk in on day one of your Sedona trip and find yourself back two more times before checkout. The caramel latte is the move and it stays on the right side of sweet without trying too hard.
The space inside has that eclectic lived-in feel no designer can fake. Local art covers the walls and handmade mugs sit on shelves. Used books are scattered around and are for sale. You can buy the art. You can buy the mugs. It is part coffee shop, part gallery, and it works.
Now here is the bonus. The parking lot is shared with Crystal Castle which is a beautiful store selling stones, amethyst, quartz, calcite, jewelry, and all the things Sedona was put on this earth to sell. Grab your latte and maybe walk next door (they open at 10AM). Spend twenty minutes in a room full of crystals!
It is not a third wave lab doing experimental things. It is a solid and comfortable coffeehouse powered by a roaster that takes the coffee seriously. For anyone staying nearby or gearing up for a hike, it earns a spot in your morning rotation fast.

There is a particular kind of happiness that only exists at 8am when someone hands you a warm donut and a seriously good cup of coffee. Sedonuts in West Sedona has figured this out completely.
This husband and wife operation is not trying to be a third wave coffee temple or a sit-down brunch destination. It knows exactly what it is. Fresh donuts made daily, a line out the door and a coffee program that has absolutely no business being this good for a donut shop. And I mean that as the highest compliment.
The donuts are light and fluffy and not cloyingly sweet. The kind that make you wonder why every donut is not made this way. The flavors run from creative Sedona-themed options to the classics done right. My advice: get there early. They sell out. This is not a marketing gimmick. People show up for a reason.
Now let us talk about the coffee because this is where Sedonuts genuinely surprises you. They source from FreeForm Coffee Roasters (yes, the same FreeForm I covered on this site) and they are pulling shots with a single origin medium roasted Peru. Notes of black cherry, almond and chocolate. It is a warm and balanced cup that holds up beautifully as a latte. The baristas work fast because the line demands it but the coffee still arrives hot and consistent. That is harder to pull off than it looks.
The setup is small and the flow is fast. You pick your donuts from the case first then order your coffee and pay at the register. It keeps things moving and somehow makes the whole experience feel even more satisfying.
Is it a quick stop? Yes. Is it a memorable one? Absolutely.

If you are the kind of person who takes their coffee black and bold, Sedona Coffee House might just be your happy place in the red rocks.
The shop is supplied by Beth Wagner of Sedona Red Rock Coffee and Roastery. She has been perfecting her blends since 2012 and she brings something a little unexpected to the craft. Before each roasting batch, Beth takes a moment to call in her Guides and Angels, asking that the roast be infused with the Crystalline Energy that Sedona is known for. Whether or not you are into that kind of thing, it is a pretty fitting detail for a town built on vortexes and red rock magic.
For espresso drinks, the house uses the Cottonwood Blend. It is a dark roast made from Ethiopian Sidamo and Brazil beans. Full-bodied and it leans hard into that deep roasted character. Here is something worth knowing before you order: all three latte cup sizes get a double shot. What changes as you go up in size is the amount of milk. So if you want that bold espresso flavor to actually show up in your latte, order small. If you want things a little more balanced, go medium. And if you love your coffee on the milder and smoother side (no judgment) the large will get you there.
I will be upfront about where I personally land. I gravitate toward medium and light roasts. So the Cottonwood was not my personal sweet spot. But the shop knows exactly what it is doing. The baristas told me this roast direction is a deliberate choice. And if dark roast is your religion, this place will feel like church.
What did win me over was the drip coffee. It is brewed from the Bell Rock Blend (Sumatra and Costa Rica) roasted medium. Clean, smooth and well rounded. I honestly think I would have enjoyed my latte more if it had been pulled from these beans instead.
Not in a coffee mood? You can still sit happily with an organic matcha latte or another none coffee option and let the day slow down around you.
The food is simple but thoughtful. A local baker supplies daily organic pastries and cookies (gluten free options included) and the pastry case feels more like a neighborhood bakery than a generic supplier drop. There are also light savory bites if you want to make a real stop of it without committing to a full meal.
Speaking of making a stop of it: if you want a place to slow down, sip something good and pretend your phone does not exist for an hour, this spot fits. The people are friendly, the beans have a real story, and the coffee actually has a soul.
Oh, and one more thing. There is a Starbucks not far down the street. Do yourself a favor and come here instead. You'll be much happier that you did! Trust me.
