Don Hoel (pronounced "hole" for the record) ran the property from the 1940s until 1983 and turned it into a real destination. His family kept it alive into the early 2000s. Current owner Erick Harrell stumbled into the kind of property most developers would have bulldozed for a resort by now. Instead he kept the name. Kept the cabins. Kept the soul.

The coffee program is real. Beans come from Matador Coffee Roasting Co. up in Flagstaff and shots pull on an Astoria Perla. The menu is short. Good coffee. Good service. No barista is buried under fifty drink modifications at once. You order a latte, you get a latte, and it is a properly built one.
