Can you truly find great espresso in a shop famous for its cereal-milk ice cream? Located in downtown Phoenix, Fatty Daddy is a reliable destination that masters both artisanal treats and premium coffee. While many visit for the rich small-batch ice cream in unique flavors like Fruity Pebbles or Banana Peanut Butter, the professional 2-group La Marzocco machine ensures every latte and mocha is crafted to an excellent standard. These drinks pair perfectly with signature offerings such as the Cookie Cup featuring a marshmallow torched right before you or the soft and pillowy Hong Kong egg waffles. As these items are crafted in small batches with specialized toppings, expect a premium price point that reflects the boutique nature of the menu. Just stick to the coffee and scoops and stay away from the boba and milk teas if you want to keep your experience top-tier. The shop stays open until 9:30 PM on weeknights and 11:00 PM on weekends, which leads one to wonder where else you can find a quality espresso at such a late hour in the city? With a cozy atmosphere and a reputation for friendly staff, this is the perfect spot for those who take their desserts and their coffee seriously. This is just one option... Where else can you satisfy a craving for a professional cappuccino and a gourmet sundae at 11 PM? This highly popular dessert shop in Phoenix has earned a reputation for serving ice cream that is incredibly rich and creamy. The interior features an inviting instagram ready design that looks great in photos. While most people come for the delicious treats like the Smores sundae or the Peanut Butter Cup Lil Freezie (which is packed with Reeses) the coffee program is equally impressive. The baristas use a two group head BFC Lira machine to pull high quality espresso for every drink. You can enjoy your latte or mocha on the cozy back patio. This outdoor space is perfect for cool nights because it features a large tree and gas heating lamps. There is plenty of seating with umbrellas and beautiful string lights to create a relaxing mood. Daydreamer Coffee Downtown Phoenix is an Instagram-ready specialty coffee shop inside Moon Tower. Modern aesthetic, signature lattes, matcha drinks in the heart of Roosevelt Row arts district. Daydreamer Coffee opened in October 2024 inside this luxury 24-story apartment tower that has become a landmark in downtown Phoenix's Roosevelt Row arts district. If you're not familiar with Moon Tower, it's not just a residential building. It's a statement. Designed with organic materials and curated urban landscaping, the building houses seven local artists living rent free in an artist-in-residence program. The entire property is integrated with a seriously thoughtful local art collection. We are talking a building that was deliberately built to be part of Roosevelt Row's creative ecosystem and not just sitting in it. The location is perfect. Adjacent to bike racks, positioned for Roosevelt Row foot traffic, and seamlessly woven into the building's lobby for residents. The space itself is what everyone notices first. Bright. Airy. Modern. Ample indoor seating and a patio that invites you to linger. The coffee program is intentional and pared back. Baristas pull shots on a La Marzocco Strada which is one of the most precise and capable espresso machines ever built. Which means every drink starts with serious technical foundation. The menu focuses on espresso drinks, matcha, chai, and specialty teas. The signature lattes rotate seasonally but include standouts like the Berry Fields Latte (blackberry, brown sugar, lavender cold foam) and the Honey Oat Latte (oat milk, honey syrup). The Blueberry Dream Matcha pairs butterfly pea infused blueberry with vanilla and matcha for something genuinely creative. Pastries come from Noble Bread (a top rated bakery with multiple locations in the valley). The food offerings are kept light and quality focused. This isn't a full restaurant. It's a coffee bar with intention. Daydreamer is actually part of an Austin-founded chain with locations in Georgia, Ohio, Texas and Florida. You wouldn't know it though. The Phoenix location feels local and connected to the neighborhood. It's part of why it works here. Moon Tower itself is positioned right in the heart of Roosevelt Row's gallery and arts scene. Just steps from local restaurants, galleries, bars, and cultural events. The building's commitment to supporting artists and integrating art into daily life extends down to the ground floor cafe. This isn't just where you grab coffee. It's where Roosevelt Row's community gathers. The space has seen rapid evolution. Fleet Coffee was here before, focused on specialty coffee and cocktails, then came Moontower Social Club with brunch and Italian fare. Daydreamer stripped back the concept to pure specialty coffee, which feels like the right call for this location and this moment. They maintained the beautiful modern design and layout, then refined the mission. Whether you are a Moon Tower resident, a Roosevelt Row gallery visitor, or someone seeking a productive work session in a genuinely beautiful space, Daydreamer delivers. The ambiance works for focused work, casual meetings, or just sitting with your Honey Oat Latte and watching downtown Phoenix happen around you. Downtown Phoenix's creative energy meets specialty coffee. That's Daydreamer. See why Daydreamer Coffee is featured in my curated best coffee shops in Phoenix.   Discover other favorites locals love. Can a simple morning drink capture the distinct flavor of downtown ambition? The Grind by Chic Chef certainly attempts to do just that. It is located right in the heart of Downtown Phoenix. The space feels modern and stylish with polished concrete floors. You will see exposed brick walls too. This is a concept by celebrity chef Nik Fields. Her presence is felt throughout the shop. The menu names match this high-energy theme. You can order drinks like The Hustler or The Visionary. The Hustler mixes cold brew with caramel and hazelnut. It is quite sweet and strong. I also recommend the Boss Babe. It is a matcha latte with a splash of lavender syrup. You might enjoy the Glow-Up if you like banana and hazelnut flavors. There are food options available. They offer waffles and yogurt parfaits (often served with fresh fruit). You should know something about the brewing method before you go. The shop uses an automatic espresso machine instead of a traditional manual one. The texture is different from what you get at a specialty roaster. The drinks are consistent but they are not for coffee purists. The staff makes the experience worthwhile. They are incredibly warm and welcoming. Anela is often praised for her helpfulness. This spot is a lifesaver if you have jury duty across the street. Parking is difficult in this area. You might have to circle around to find a spot. The Grind is a great choice if you want good vibes and a creative drink. Curious what else Phoenix has to offer? Discover other independent coffee shops in Phoenix

Hidden gem in Mesa: Pair Cupworks roasts their own beans and pulls espresso shots with the precision of surgeons. This is where passion becomes craft. Single origin pour-overs, rare varietals, phenomenal shots. This is a destination for coffee enthusiasts who understand that craft matters. Run by passionate and incredibly knowledgeable baristas who pull phenomenal shots on their La Marzocco Linea espresso machine, every drink here reflects excellence. As an in house roaster, Pair has a deep connection to their product. This shows most in their slow bar where each pour-over is treated as its own meditation. The menu is a coffee lover's dream. A rotating list of single origin pour-overs and espressos with unique and complex flavor profiles. Their standout Colombia is a perfect example. Whether you're geeking out over a rare Geisha varietal or enjoying a perfectly crafted cappuccino, the care and precision here is exceptional. While the portions run on the modest/small side, it reflects the specialty coffee philosophy of letting the coffee shine rather than volume (though at full price). You're paying for quality and craftsmanship over quantity. The upside is that what you get is expertly crafted. The banana latte that I ordered during my last visit for instance, was perfectly balanced and not too sweet to overwhelm the espresso. The space itself is worth mentioning. Located at the back of a shared space with a cider bar and a pizza place, it's small but intentional. Sunlight streams through windows. Seating is generous. The vibe is focused and welcoming without being pretentious. See why Pair Cupworks is featured in my curated best coffee shops in the East Valley With its unwavering dedication to the art of coffee and refusal to compromise on quality, Pair Cupworks is one of the most essential coffee experiences around. This is where coffee becomes craft... becomes art.

Can a neighborhood cafe truly transport you to Paris while situated in the heart of the desert? Cupz N Crepes claims the title of "Ahwatukee’s Favorite Cafe" for good reason. It offers a charming escape with its Parisian inspired decor. The atmosphere is cozy and eclectic. This is a place where you are meant to linger rather than rush. The menu is massive. The drink selection alone might overwhelm you at first glance. It features sections like Hot Cupz, Iced Cupz, and Blended Cupz. You can customize these with dozens of flavors ranging from Almond Roca to Toasted Marshmallow or even Blood Orange. The cold brew is frequently praised for being strong and smooth. The food menu splits between savory and sweet options. Local favorites include the rich Monte Cristo or the fresh Turkey Pesto. If you have a sweet tooth you should try the Banana Nutella or Blueberry Cream Cheese crepe. You should know that the service style is often described as "no-nonsense" or brisk. Do not expect a corporate coffee shop pace here. It is a family-owned spot where patience is sometimes required. The wait can be long on weekends. However the loyal locals will tell you the food is absolutely worth the time.   Checkout other Phoenix Cafes that also serve crepes.

What is the precise moment when a grueling climb up South Mountain transforms into a perfect morning? For many in the Ahwatukee adventure seekers, that moment arrives the second they step into Wonderift Coffee. It is located within the Equestrian Centre just minutes from the Pima Canyon Trailhead. This shop is a purpose-built basecamp for hikers and locals. The concept was born from the owners honeymoon in Kauai. They fell in love with the casual vibe of the roadside coffee shacks on the island. They brought that spirit back to Phoenix. You can feel comfortable here in dusty trail runners or business casual attire. The shop features garage style doors that roll up to let in the desert breeze. This creates an airy indoor-outdoor flow. It is modern and minimalist yet undeniably warm. You will see bikes mounted on the walls and plenty of racks outside. Cyclists often roll in straight off the Warner-Elliot Loop. They even sell locks onsite if you forgot yours. The coffee program is anchored by local Arizona roaster Provision Coffee. The menu is creative without being pretentious. The undisputed star is the Banana Bread Latte. It is made with a house made banana bread syrup and garnished with a dried banana coin. This drink has earned a loyal following for tasting exactly like its namesake without being too sweet. You might prefer something refreshing. The Agave Shakerato offers espresso shaken over ice with organic blue agave and milk. This results in a phenomenal layer of foam. You can also taste the Southwest in a cup with the Sonoran Mocha. It mixes Ancho Chile Cacao powder with a chilled agave cream top. Tea lovers are treated with equal respect thanks to a partnership with Maya Tea. Try the refreshing iced Prickly Pear Herbal or a warming Spicy Chai. Wonderift leans heavily into local partnerships for their food. The bagels are sourced from South Phoenix favorite Bagelero. The Jalapeno Cheddar and Rosemary Parm Garlic bagels are massive. They are served soft and flaky with generous portions of cream cheese. The house-baked goods are just as impressive. You must try the namesake Banana Bread. It is nut-free to accommodate allergies. The biggest surprise might be the gluten free coffee cake made with almond flour. It is incredibly moist and delicious! Wonderift offers a welcoming and high energy vibe. It is perfect for fueling up before a long ride or winding down after a hike. You will often see the owners working behind the bar. It is a local gem that captures the adventurous spirit of the mountain right next door.   Love trying new cafes? Tucked inside the walkable and shady Tempe Business Center, Jasmine Jo Coffee & Flowers blends two worlds.... Fresh coffee and fresh blooms. The smell of espresso mixes with the scent of roses. It hits you the moment you walk in. Parking out front can be tricky during busy hours. But it is usually easier to find a good spot on the west side of the building which as a bonus leads right into a gorgeous back patio that feels like a secret garden. Big trees. Plenty of tables. Shade everywhere. It’s one of the nicest patios in Tempe in my humble opinion. Space inside can feel tight when busy but it is full of charm. The ambience feels cozy and European. It is the kind of spot where you can sip a drink and watch the world move slow. I’ve recently tried their Dirty Daisy which is a floral twist on coffee that’s smooth and enjoyable. On my last visit though, I ordered a latte with whole milk but got 2% or skim. Not ideal, but still good. Jasmine Jo usually pull espresso from single origin beans roasted by Matador Coffee Roasting Co. up in Flagstaff. That gives the drinks here a bright and clean taste. They used to have a slow bar for pour-overs back in the days when I came to Tempe more often and it made this place feel extra special. Sadly, that’s gone now. Manual brewing takes time and baristas have to keep orders moving fast. If you order an espresso-based drink, you're still in for a treat as it will be crafted on their beautiful Italian made Nuova Simonelli Appia II. Jasmine Jo also have a second shop in Ahwatukee Foothills. That one is more spacious but this Tempe location stays busier. It has more heart, more character, and a loyal crowd. If you love coffee and flowers, you will like this spot. It feels like a little escape in the middle of Tempe.

With its warm, culturally decorated interior, this establishment provides a distinct and flavorful alternative to a typical coffee shop experience. The menu also features the popular Dubai chocolate, and the shop’s late hours make it a go-to destination for evening study sessions and social gatherings.
