Serafina Coffee Roasters

Serafina Coffee Beautiful Inside Seating Area

You are hit with it from the moment you step through the door. That intoxicating wave of roasting coffee stops you mid-breath. It is not just a smell. It is a promise. On the left side sits the roaster itself in red and silver. A massive drum spinning inside holding a batch while another batch cools on the spinning tray below it. You are standing in the heart of it all now.

The space unfolds around you in layers of warmth and intention. Industrial gray walls cradle oversized metal letters spelling “COFFEE” while a neon pink sign glows beneath urging you to “Grab Some Beans”. The exposed brick catches the light. Wooden shelves glow with kraft bags of freshly roasted beans. Each one a small promise of what is to come.

The ordering counter is where your eyes land next. Behind it the scene feels theatrical in a genuine way. A stunning red Wega Vela espresso machine commands your attention. Its color so vibrant it seems to pulse. Above it there are two clocks one keeping Phoenix time while the other Rome time. That Italian time on the second clock is not random. It is a subtle nod to where espresso itself was born. It is a quiet acknowledgment that Damian Serafine, the New York trained Master Roaster who founded this place, honors where espresso actually came from. A world map tapestry in muted grays stretches behind the barista station for another soft reminder that great coffee connects continents and people.

The coffee itself tells a different story. Single origin Mexican Chiapas beans are thoughtfully roasted in small batches by Damian’s team. Medium bodied chocolate and cocoa powder with nutty and delicate fruity notes. Whether you are watching a barista pull a perfect shot or pouring water slowly through metal over a glass carafe pour over in the slow bar, you are witnessing precision and care.

What matters most is the people. The staff moves with purpose and warmth. Your drink appears before you have finished scanning your card. There is no rushing here though. Just genuine hospitality. You notice dog owners sitting comfortably inside with their pups, so this is clearly a space where everyone, furry friends included, feels welcome. Conversations bloom at scattered tables. This feels like a gathering place born from genuine community commitment.

Serafina is not trying to be anything other than what it is. It is a place where a Master Roaster who studied in New York and brought specialty coffee to Phoenix in its infancy has created something enduring and true (1990s). This is a place where the bean is honored and the craft is visible. It is where you are invited into something larger than a transaction. Whether you are savoring a seasonal fall creation or a simple pour over, you belong here.

Case Study Coffee Lounge (Uptown)

case-study-phoenix-az

The moment you step through the door, you’re enveloped in warmth. The air carries rich and complex coffee aroma. Soft light spills across the space. Everything feels intentional and calm. It’s a sanctuary designed by someone who understands that the best experiences linger.
Case Study Coffee Lounge began as a showroom for William Douglas. He was a Phoenix native and world-class furniture designer. Clients would experience his custom woodwork while enjoying coffee. Over time the coffee became the conversation. The lounge became the destination. When a severe tree allergy forced him away from woodworking, he pivoted toward passion instead of retreat. He transformed the showroom into a thriving coffee community hub.
This “pivot of passion” shaped everything you experience here. It is evident in every detail. The owner crafts house made syrups with precision. The brown sugar sage latte stands as the showstopper. It is creamy and complex. Earthy sage dances alongside warm caramel sweetness. It’s a drink that rewards lingering. You’ll also find lavender thyme and bergamot vanilla syrups. Seasonal rotations rotate through regularly. Artisanal crepes taste like someone genuinely cares.
The philosophy runs deeper than menu items. Local mentors like Xanadu and Space Coffee shaped this vision. Case Study exists to cultivate connection. It’s a space where time slows down. Discovery happens in quiet corners. Every visit reveals something new.
Fair warning though. This place gets really busy sometimes. The front has a sofa and some chairs. But look toward the opposite side from the ordering counter and you will find a hallway that leads to a decent sized room with tons of seating. Tables. Chairs. The works. Perfect if you want to actually spread out and work or hang.
Close your eyes. You are here. The espresso hisses on the La Marzocco Linea Classic. Your cup arrives warm in your hands. You are exactly where you are meant to be.

When I first walked into Dialog I understood the Phoenix aesthetic. This is how city coffee shops should look. It feels bright minimalist and perfectly curated. The design blends polished concrete and sharp modernist furniture. Above, the industrial ceiling structure is left intentionally bare. Strategic plants offer a subtle yet resilient defiance to the unrelenting desert sun. It is an artistic forward thinking space.

The concept comes from Chad Campbell and Shawn Silberblatt. These are the sharp minds who perfected Kream Coffee. They built this space specifically for lingering and connection. The name “dialog” is absolutely perfect for the experience. It is more than a coffee spot. It seamlessly transforms into a creative event hub by night.

The coffee here is third-wave quality. Dialog maintains a global roster of top specialty roasters. This ensures the single origin bean selection is always rotating and fresh.

You can order the standard Americano but look closer at the menu. I always consider trying the Iced Rose Latte or the unique Honey Bee Latte. Every espresso drink arrives in specialty glassware. That inclusion of sparkling water on the side? That is the subtle mark of a serious coffee program.

The food menu is casually upscale. The pastry case is stacked with great scones and baked treats. You can grab quick lunch items here.

dialog is central to Roosevelt Row. It is a true creative hub for the city. Go and fulfill your civic duty to appreciate quality coffee Phoenix style!

Moxie is the absolute definition of specialty coffee culture perfected. The space is minimalist and bright. The walls are stark white. It feels like a beautiful quiet sanctuary. This is the perfect spot for deep focus or genuine relaxation.
The name “Moxie” speaks to daring and innovation. The logo reflects this philosophy. It uses a solid blue silhouette of a coffee cup. The cup is cracked and then pieced back together with white lines. This imagery represents their commitment to high quality and craft. It shows they are willing to break traditional methods to redefine specialty coffee.
This is not just a cafe. Moxie operates an in-house micro-roastery. The company uses a specialized Diedrich IR-2.5 roaster which is on full display. This machine uses infrared heat vs. the typical gas for precise control over the beans. Moxie hunts for the world’s rarest single origin crops. They define their mission by “uncommon coffee.” Beans are roasted lightly and never burnt. This preserves the bright sweet natural flavors.

The commitment continues to the espresso bar. Shots are pulled on an elite Synesso MVP Hydra machine (Later replaced by a La Marzocco Linea). I always know I can order a 1-and-1 espresso flight here. The baristas are true experts. They will happily talk through the complex slow bar menu.

You must not skip the signature drinks. The New Orleans Style Iced Coffee is mandatory. It uses chicory and house-made syrups for a creamy sweet finish. Look for the Vanilla Mint Nitro or seasonal lattes.

Do not ignore the food menu. They source phenomenal pastries from top local Phoenix bakers. I have a special affinity for the browned butter chocolate chip cookie. Moxie also hosts regular Parking Lot Parties supporting local artists and makers.
Moxie stands for daring and innovation. This shop embodies high craft with zero compromises. Moxie is quite simply, world class coffee.

The search for the perfect Phoenix coffee shop can lead you to strange wonderful places. Indigo Room is a true hidden gem tucked inside Urban Collective, a beautiful antique and vintage store. The coffee is unbelievably good no matter what you get.

Imagine browsing vintage antiques while sipping exceptional espresso. Picture yourself surrounded by weathered furniture, curious trinkets, and forgotten treasures from decades past, each piece telling its own story. You pause at a mirror, run your fingers across an ornate wooden table, then settle into a vintage armchair with your perfectly pulled espresso in hand. This is the vibe you’ll find at Indigo Room. It creates an experience you won’t find anywhere else in Phoenix!

Walk through the space and you’ll spot a sign hanging on the exposed brick wall that reads “Vintage. Sip. Shop. Relax.” Those three words perfectly capture what owner Carder Mehr has built here. He has created more than just a coffee shop inside an antique store. He created a sanctuary where coffee lovers and vintage hunters collide. Here, you can fuel your day and feed your soul at the same time.

Mehr and his family run this coffee shop. He brought his expertise from Press Coffee where he honed his craft before opening this labor of love. He pulls every shot on the legendary La Marzocco Linea Mini machine, a piece of equipment used only by the very best coffee bars. The quality is so high that some people call it the best espresso in Phoenix.

You can stick with a perfect Cortado or explore their creative side with a Honey Cardamom Latte, colorful Ube Latte, or excellent matcha. Just remember this little slice of coffee heaven is not a seven-day operation. Indigo Room is only open Thursday through Sunday with weekday hours from 7 AM to 3 PM. You must plan your antique browsing accordingly.

Walking into Futuro feels like entering a space that exists somewhere between a gallery and a meditation room. The first thing that hits you is the whiteness. Everything is white. The walls are white. The floor is pale. The ceiling glows with soft light. You stand there for a moment and realize the room is not empty at all. It just refuses to compete with what matters.

The coffee bar sits in the center of a long open room inside PALABRA at 909 N 1st Street in downtown Phoenix. To your left and right are seating areas that feel like alcoves carved into the brightness. Behind you as you keep walking is a small backyard that opens the space just enough to let you breathe. Music plays somewhere low in the background like a hum. Conversations float at the same volume. Nobody is shouting. Nobody is rushing. The whole rhythm of the place moves slower than the city outside.
The whiteness could feel cold but it does not. Natural light pours through the windows and softens everything it touches. The brightness becomes a backdrop that makes a ceramic cup of mocha or a plate holding a tamale suddenly look like part of an installation. Every object gets its moment. Every color stands out against the pale canvas. You begin to understand that the emptiness is not absence. It is focus.

When you approach the counter the menu is shorter than you expect. Filtro. Cajeta. Moca. A few other drinks. The options feel chosen rather than endless. You order a Cajeta because you have never heard of goat milk caramel in coffee before and the barista nods like you made a good choice. You watch careful hands work behind the bar preparing your drink. Every pour is measured. Every cup is placed on a wooden tray with small deliberate gestures that feel more like craftsmanship than speed.

When your drink arrives it comes with a small glass of sparkling water and a card listing tasting notes. The presentation turns a simple order into a ritual. You carry the tray to a table and sit down. The Cajeta tastes like memory and precision mixed together. The sweetness is deep but not sharp. It lingers on your tongue without overwhelming the espresso underneath. The goat milk caramel brings something nostalgic (like candy from childhood) but the execution is modern and clean. You sip slowly because the drink asks you to.

Around you the room continues its quiet hum. A woman in the corner is reading. A couple near the window talks in low voices. Someone with a camera photographs their cup against the white table. The space makes every object look like art and you realize this is not accidental. The design invites you to notice. To pause. To let a moment stretch longer than it usually does.

The staff here are kind without being overly friendly. They answer questions about the beans or the drinks but do not hover. They trust you to sit and exist in the space. This feels rare. Most coffee shops either ignore you or perform hospitality. Futuro does neither. The baristas work with quiet focus. The pace is slower by design. Drinks take a bit longer because everything from milk texture to garnishes is measured with care. Some people mention this in reviews as a critique but that misses the point! The slowness is not a flaw. It is the whole idea.

Sitting here you notice how the natural light changes as time passes. Morning light feels different than afternoon light. The white walls catch every shift. The room breathes with the sun and you lose track of time a little bit. The minimal design can look intimidating in photos (like a museum that might judge you for wearing the wrong shoes) but in person the room softens once you sit down with a drink in your hands. The lack of clutter gives you room to think. The quiet gives you space to talk or not talk.

The art on the walls changes over time because PALABRA rotates its gallery shows. This keeps Futuro from feeling sterile. The brightness stays the same but the color shifts. Each visit feels slightly different. The white canvas always has something new to hold.

Futuro is not a place for fast laptop turnover or large groups. The seating is limited and thoughtfully arranged. If you need to grab coffee and run this is not your spot. But if you want to sit in a carefully composed room and drink something made with precision then this is exactly where you should be. The space respects your time by asking you to slow down. It respects coffee by treating every cup like it matters. It respects Mexican heritage by weaving flavors like cajeta and champurrado into a modern specialty program without turning them into novelty.

You leave feeling like you experienced something rather than just consumed something. The white room stays with you. The taste of goat milk caramel stays with you. The quiet hum of conversation stays with you. You will come back. Not because you need coffee. Because you want to sit in that light again and remember what it feels like when a space asks you to pause.

Phoenix Coffee Shops. A City Refusing to Settle

Nuova Simonelli
Phoenix
Every once in a while, a coffee shop opens up and tries to do too many things at once. Bakery. Florist. Coffee bar. The result is usually a Frankenstein situation where nothing gets done particularly well. A Flourshop on 7th Street is the opposite of that. It is three things and it is good at all three. I am a sucker for a good shop origin story because the backstory usually shows up in the cup (or food). So I did a little digging. According to a 2018 interview with Your Jubilee, Andrea Tuck taught herself to bake while finishing an ASU degree in Global Business and Marketing. After graduation she waitressed at her mom's Italian restaurant and started slinging pastries for private clients out of the same kitchen. Andrea comes from a long line of Italian women who ran restaurants, so the kitchen pedigree is real. Eventually the side hustle got too big to share a kitchen. She spotted a for sale sign on a space in Central Phoenix, signed within a week and A Bakeshop was born in 2014. By 2022 she had outgrown that spot too, moved into something bigger on 7th Street and added coffee and a flower bar to the lineup. That bigger spot is A Flourshop. When you step inside, the design hits you right away. You get an immediate split personality moment. On one side, exposed brick walls are warm and a little moody. On the other side, crisp white walls with light blue tables that feel airy and modern. Light wood furniture ties it all together. Big windows pour in Phoenix sun. There are fresh florals scattered around because, well, there is a flower bar in here. You get to pick your mood depending on which seat you grab. So what about the food? The pastries are kind of out of control. I tried the Lemon Blueberry Croissant and the Strawberry Shortcake Croissant side by side, and let me be honest, the Lemon Blueberry won by a landslide. Fruit forward, layered like a fancy European dessert, the kind of thing you would expect at a patisserie in some little French town. The Strawberry Shortcake (with real strawberry cream piped on top) was no slouch either. Pastry prices run from $7 to $11, which is not cheap, but you can taste the scratch work and the daily floral refresh in everything. Now, the coffee. Some purists might raise an eyebrow at the Nuova Simonelli Appia Life pulling shots here. No pressure profiling. No flow control. Volumetric and timer based pulls only. But (and this is a big but) the bean is doing the heavy lifting. The espresso is Moxie CODECH, a washed Guatemala from a farmer cooperative in Huehuetenango. Bourbon varietal. Limestone soil. Roasted light to medium. Chocolate up front, nougat in the middle and a soft fruited finish. It is the kind of bean that makes a milk drink sing. And here is a nice touch. The hot latte is offered in one size only. To me, that is a green flag. It usually means the shop has dialed in the exact ratio between the espresso pull and the milk volume, so every cup is calibrated the same way. I am a big fan of shops that pick one size and obsess over it. The drip is Moxie El Nevado out of Colombia, and I have to gush for a second here. El Nevado is one of my favorite beans ever. I am normally the guy chasing high end Ethiopian Gujis, Sidamos and Harrars (you know, the fruit bombs), but El Nevado has me converted on the Colombia side. Dark chocolate. Caramel sweetness. A soft stone fruit finish that sneaks up on you. It is crazy good. There is also a ROC2 nitro cold brew if that is your thing. Quick parking note for first timers. The lot right next to the shop is fair game, but every sign in the area reads Red Bricks Center Parking Only with zero mention of A Flourshop. Do not let that scare you off. A Flourshop sits inside the Red Bricks center, so you are good to park there. So here is the deal. A bakery alone could carry a shop. A floral bar alone could carry a shop. A craft coffee program pulling Moxie beans could absolutely carry a shop. A Flourshop runs all three at full speed. That is exactly why it lands on the  Top Craft Coffee Shops page at AZCoffeeShops.com without me thinking twice about it. 👉Click to View the Drink Menu Menu items are subject to change. A.T. Oasis Coffee is one of the most special coffee experiences in Phoenix. This is a place where the coffee is rooted in genuine origin. The food is made daily by hand and the staff treat every single person who walks through the door like a cherished friend. The shop sits on a strip along Thomas Road with plenty of parking. It is a modest storefront from the outside but the moment you step in the room opens up into something warm and culturally rich. Wooden tables and chairs fill the floor. Along the walls there are tall shelving units running nearly floor to ceiling. Coffee bags are neatly stacked row after row alongside mugs, traditional brewing equipment and ornate pottery. An Oud (a traditional stringed instrument of Middle Eastern and North African origin) is mounted proudly on the upper shelf. Raw honey jars and loose leaf teas in clear containers fill the remaining shelves. There is a patio out front if you prefer to sit in the open air. Ethiopia is where the story of coffee begins. The coffee plant (Coffea arabica) is believed to have originated in the forests of Ethiopia. This is why Ethiopia is considered the true birthplace of the world's most beloved drink. What makes Ethiopian coffee so remarkable is that a significant number of its native coffee varieties remain uncataloged by scientists. There are likely countless wild varieties that the world has not yet named or tasted. When you drink Ethiopian coffee you are drinking something ancient and deeply complex. No other origin carries that weight. Aisha and Abdul are the heart of this shop. They import Ethiopian beans and work with a local roaster to bring them to life. The two primary offerings are the Yirgacheffe (yur·guh·chef) and the Sidama. The Yirgacheffe (named after its growing region in southern Ethiopia) is tea-like and delicate and is known for bright floral and citrus notes. The Sidama is a fuller bodied cup with deeper fruit complexity and a hint of chocolate and light spice. Both are exceptional and available as whole bean bags to take home. The espresso blend combines both the Yirgacheffe and the Sidama. I understand the thinking behind it. Blending is a common way to chase balance and broaden appeal. But in this case I felt the Yirgacheffe's natural acidity got amplified in the espresso process (pressure) and the Sidama's rich depth did not quite get the room it deserves. The latte I ordered (hot with whole milk) was still genuinely good and I enjoyed it. But I kept thinking how extraordinary it could be with the Sidama carrying the espresso on its own or perhaps a Ethiopian Guji if they ever consider expanding the lineup. This is less a complaint and more a quiet wish from someone who clearly wants to see what these beans can really do at full expression. The drip and cold brew on the other hand are matched with the Yirgacheffe exclusively. That is exactly the right call. Filter brewing methods are where the Yirgacheffe truly shines, coaxing out those delicate floral aromatics that espresso tends to overshadow. I tried samples of both and they were excellent. Now, the A.T. Ginger Coffee. Listed on the menu as a trademark item, is described as a special ginger spice coffee that Aisha herself developed. The menu notes that Aisha and her staff pour their heart and soul into every cup. I have not tried it yet but regulars of this shop rave about it. It is on my list for my next visit and I have a strong feeling it will be worth calling out in its own right. The A.T. Chai Tea is made from scratch using a unique organic blend of spices. The Black Spice Tea is another house specialty, prepared with Aisha's own secret spice blend. Both feel like extensions of the same care that runs through everything here. Do not leave without trying the Sambusas. They are made fresh daily, lightly fried and filled with lentils. They are not spicy at all which makes them approachable for just about anyone. I bought some to take home and they disappeared quickly. One last thing. A.T. Oasis sits just minutes from the Phoenix Microcenter, which finally opened its doors here after what felt like an eternity of waiting. If you are making the trip out to Thomas Road for Microcenter, this shop is a natural and very worthy stop. Consider it your reward for the drive. ▶Click to View the Drink Menu Note: Menu items are subject to change. Some items could be seasonal and may not be available. Let me set the scene. You walk down the street, past a giant tiger mural, and you find yourself staring at a gritty concrete facade with a rolling garage door. The signage is there if you look for it. Lowercase. Quiet. Polite. The whole thing reads hidden and low key. Exactly what aftermarket is going for. Push through the door and the vibe flips on you. Raw faux concrete walls. Exposed ceiling joists. A skylight pours sunshine across the open floor plan. Sleek leather seating. Modern art on every wall. A vintage blue Piaggio Vispa scooter parked like it is part of the show. The espresso bar is tiled in a sharp geometric pattern, and the red cushioned bar stools (very comfortable by the way) pop against all that concrete. It is the kind of room you photograph before you even order. Now here is the twist. aftermarket is not the only thing happening in this room. It coexists with BELHAUS, the contemporary art gallery and film lab. They share the space, mutually. One door. Two (well, three) souls under one roof. The art on the walls is from local artists and most of it is for sale. Same goes for the clothing. The newsstand by the bar, modeled after a vintage Parisian street kiosk, sells original works on paper, prints and small objets. Part cafe, part boutique, part creative studio, part something I cannot quite name. OK, the coffee. The bar is anchored by a beautiful red Faema Jubilee espresso machine. The beans come from Caffio Espresso Bar which is less than a quarter mile down the road. The house blend is a medium roast made of Brazilian and Nicaraguan beans. I ordered a small latte (comes with a double shot) and the flavor was rich and comforting. Milk chocolate up front, warm caramel in the middle and roasted nuts on the finish. The espresso has enough weight to cut through the milk instead of vanishing into it. Now the part I really want to call out. The syrups are house made. All of them. No Torani bottle. No giant jug with a label you recognize from Costco. Made by hand, by the team, in their own kitchen. Order a Lumio (named after a small beach in Corsica) or a Bizou (named after their late studio dog) and you can taste why that detail matters. The pastries come from Chaconne Patisserie out in Scottsdale. I did not try one this visit. The case looked great though. Next time. One quick note for first timers. Google Maps is going to lie to you. Punch the address in and the pin will dump you on Grand Ave staring at the front of the building complex. The actual aftermarket entrance is around the back on McKinley. Street parking is easy and free. I took a bunch of pictures for reference so check them out before you go. aftermarket is the kind of place where the coffee is dialed, the art is real and the room itself is the show. A shop that does not believe in capital letters, big signs or store bought syrups. Every detail here means something, even the door you cannot find on Google Maps. 👉Click to View the Drink Menu Note: Menu items are subject to change. Phoenix
Berdena's in Phoenix is a bright and modern specialty coffee shop in the Camelback East Village neighborhood. The menu includes espresso drinks, creative specialty lattes, an exceptional breakfast and brunch selection and fresh in-house baked pastries. You already know Berdena's. Or at least...you should. The Berdena's Scottsdale location has been a local favorite since 2017 and this Phoenix outpost in Camelback East Village brings the same energy to a Fredo neighborhood. The setup is familiar. Bright, modern and small enough that it fills up fast. If you go on a weekend and expect to waltz in and grab a seat, temper those expectations. But it is worth the wait. The breakfast and brunch menu is the real draw here. The Smashed Avocado Toast has the reputation for a reason. The Breakfast Sandwich holds its own. And if you are hungry, Stevie's Big Boy Burrito is the move. The pastry case is also worth your attention. The croissants and cinnamon rolls are made in-house and are the kind of thing that makes you regret not ordering two. On the coffee side, Berdena's runs a multi-roaster program and the menu has the common drinks. The classics are done well and the specialty lattes (Honey Lavender and Cardamom Rose among them) use house-made syrups that give the drinks a floral character you will not find at most shops. Both locations are worth visiting. But if you are on the Phoenix side of town, you no longer have an excuse to drive to Scottsdale.   View my Phoenix city coffee shop guide.

Phoenix
Cafecito in Phoenix has a menu built around Mexican coffee culture, and it earns its place among the better coffee spots in the city. It sits inside Otro Cafe tucked into the Uptown / North Central corridor close to the Phoenix Mountain Preserve. The coffee bar was born when Otro Cafe's ownership (Doug Robson and partner Carlos Diaz) knocked through a wall into the neighboring storefront. Phoenix New Times described it as a love letter to Mexican coffee culture, and that feels right. The whole thing was built to handle brunch overflow from next door, but it has grown into its own thing entirely. The beans come from Esso Coffee, a local female owned roastery chosen for its caramel and chocolate leaning darker roast profile. The coffee is strong and well prepared. It does not try to be delicate or tea-like. It wants to be bold and it pulls that off. The specialty drink menu is where things get fun. The horchata latte and the cajeta latte are the ones people talk about most and they are both worth trying. Cafe de olla inspired drinks and licuados round out a menu that feels genuinely connected to Mexican tradition rather than just borrowing the aesthetics. The pastries deserve their own mention. They are made in house and are one of the best in the area. Fresh, flavorful and the kind of thing that makes it harder to say no when you are just "stopping by for a coffee". The space itself is chill. Latin music plays, the bar seating works well for solo visits and the vibe leans relaxed rather than performative. If you live nearby, it is easy to make this becoming a regular stop. It is also a natural fit for anyone coming off a morning hike at Piestewa or up in the Phoenix Mountain Preserve area. One thing worth knowing: if you end up here and the smell of Otro Cafe's food starts pulling at you, that is not a problem unique to you. Their pancakes have a reputation for a reason. ▶Click to View the Drink Menu Note: Menu items are subject to change. Some items could be seasonal and may not be available. Located within the Pueblo plant shop, Caffio Espresso Bar offers a unique coffee counter experience set on a lush garden patio. This hidden gem centers on classic espresso drinks on lever espresso machines while featuring a selection of creative specialty lattes (the Il Caffioso with Mexican chile and the L'ape Lavender Latte are standouts). See full menu below. The shop provides a small assortment of pastries and a truly unique and relaxing atmosphere surrounded by plants. What makes this spot particularly special is the story behind the counter. Owner Anthony Fiorelli founded the business as a tribute to his Italian heritage, operating the bar out of a vintage 1985 VespaCar (Piaggio Ape) parked right inside the shop. It is a beautiful blend of traditional Italian coffee culture and a modern desert oasis. Between the greenery and the authentic vibe of the Vespa, it is a perfect place to slow down and enjoy a carefully crafted cup. A full review is forthcoming. Look, Case Study Coffee (menu below) in Phoenix is basically the cool kid's coffee shop. And honestly I get why. The vibe is sophisticated and moody. The lighting is perfect. Everything is designed to make you feel like you stepped into a design magazine. Just so you know, parking can be brutal during rush hour and weekends. But here's the thing. The coffee is absolutely worth the hunt. I started with their regular latte and it was fantastic. They roast their own beans in house. You can taste the care they put into it. Then I got adventurous with the matcha latte. It was smooth and exactly what I needed on a lazy afternoon. The real conversation starter? Their Dark Horse Latte. It is one of their signature drinks. It is a little smoky with dark maple and smoked salt. It's like drinking a campfire but make it fancy. Just kidding. It was really good but fair warning though, I would order mine less sweet next time because it leans a bit heavy on the maple situation. At Case Study, they are pulling shots on a beautiful La Marzocco GB. That tells you they are not messing around with their espresso game. Here is the secret nobody mentions at first: There is an awesome back room. The front has just a sofa and a few chairs. But look toward the opposite side from the ordering counter. You'll find a hallway that leads to a decent sized room with tons of seating and tables...etc. Plenty of power outlets too - the works. Perfect if you want to actually spread out and work or hang. Case Study is where you go when you want great coffee in a space that actually gets it.   ▶Click to View the Drink Menu Note: Menu items are subject to change. What happens when you combine church leadership experience, nonprofit community work, and a passion for quality coffee? Collective Coffee opened in March 2025 in the former Hanai Coffee space on West Southern Avenue. Juan and Tina Chavez (founders of South Phoenix church and the nonprofit AZ Reach) partnered with Aaron and Dana Daile to create something bigger than espresso and pastries. They built a genuine community hub for South Phoenix and Laveen. Look, the mission here is not subtle. Collective Coffee exists "from our community, for our community." The space directly ties into AZ Reach's mentorship programs (link below), grief support, entrepreneurship training, and financial literacy workshops for local high school students. You can feel that energy the moment you walk in. The coffee comes from a nonprofit roaster Cultivate Coffee in Sunnyslope that I reviewed last year. Collective does not roast in-house but they chose their partner carefully. The beans are solid and the espresso drinks are consistently well made. Try the Copper Latte (espresso with caramel, agave and cardamom) or the Horchata Latte if you want something beyond the standard menu. The specialty drinks menu leans creative without crossing into gimmick territory. The Tuxedo Latte has handcrafted cookies and cream sauce with crushed Oreos. That's what my wife got and I stole a few sips when she was looking away... 🙂 The drink actually tasted good. Food comes from other South Phoenix businesses. Pastries are from Red Velvet Bakery. The breakfast burrito includes house made chipotle sauce and a side of green salsa. The avocado toast on sourdough is legitimately excellent (avocado, chipotle sauce, cotija, pickled onion, cilantro, red pepper flakes, tomato). The space itself is family friendly and they even have high chairs for the little ones. There is indoor seating and bar seating. The vibe feels comfortable and lived in rather than trying too hard to be trendy. You can post up for hours without feeling rushed. Collective hosts regular community events and gatherings. This is not background noise marketing. They actually function as a neighborhood gathering spot where people know each other and the staff remembers your name (not mine because I live on the other side of town and only made it here once so far for this review, but I will definitely swing by again whenever I am in the area). South Phoenix and Laveen needed this. A real local coffee shop that invests back into the community instead of just extracting profit. Collective Coffee delivers on that promise with quality drinks and food that support the mission. ▶Click to View the Drink Menu Note: Menu items are subject to change.
