I track the top cafes across the East Valley metro so you can find great coffee fast.
The East Valley holds one of the most rewarding coffee scenes in metro Phoenix. A few pockets in particular shape it, and each stretch of the Valley carries its own flavor. I research every shop on this list. I visit as many as I can in person, and I keep adding more visits over time. Some are vetted in depth. Others are newer additions I am still getting to.
Use the filters or the map below to find coffee near you anywhere in the East Valley and Arizona.
No need to leave yet. Every shop is already gathered and mapped on this page, the whole East Valley in one view. When you want to go deep on a single city, open its own guide below. Same shops. Just one city at a time.
A handful of shops I send friends to first. Not ranked, not grouped, just the ones worth the drive. Tap a block to bring it forward.
Chandler
Sagebrush Coffee Shop & Roastery
Engineer-precise roasting and a Cloudy latte that captures desert rain.
I remember when Chandler was a specialty coffee wasteland a place where a caffeine addict like me would never stop. Sagebrush is living proof that a meticulous engineering background combined with a decade long obsession can fix anything. Matt Kellso the owner started this whole empire roasting beans right out of his small home kitchen on Sagebrush Court. The man ate coffee beans like candy as a kid that is the kind of commitment I respect. The vibe here is Engineer Zen all clean lines minimalist space yet somehow still welcoming and calm. They are serious coffee artisans traveling to origin and highlighting wild experimental processing methods like “unicorn” preparation. You must try their famous seasonal drink the Cloudy latte. It perfectly captures the exact scent of desert rain using orange and creosote a truly unique flavor experience. Just understand you do not come here to order a mess of custom syrups. They strictly refuse modifications to their specialty milk drinks because they are dedicated to those carefully balanced flavor profiles. It is a bold policy but it shows they care about the art. If you ask for an extra pump of artificial flavoring you might as well ask a 3 star French Chef to bring you a shaker of MSG for the Beef Bourguignon. It is meant to be perfect already.
Chandler
Mission Coffee and Tea
A relaxed community hub with a serious slow bar and single origin beans.
Chandler often feels like a sprawling suburb. Mission Coffee & Tea is the antidote to that feeling. This is a genuine community hub. The atmosphere is immediately inviting and relaxed. It proves not every great coffee shop needs to be downtown and hyper-minimalist. You can find quiet workspaces here.
This coffee shop is surprisingly serious about high level flavor. A dedicated Slow Bar operates here. Baristas prepare pour-over coffee with meticulous precision. This method enhances the flavor clarity and aroma. The focus is on globally sourced single origin beans. All coffee is small batch roasted by Clay Coffee, a solid Phoenix roaster known for quality. This attention to craft makes it a standout choice for any aficionado.
If you want to grab a 12oz bag to take home, I highly recommend the Ethiopia from the rich soil and fertile land of Hambela Guji. Notes of blueberry, guava, and plum come through clearly. The beans are naturally processed (lightly fermented similar to honey process) and lightly roasted. The Brazil is another excellent choice with notes of dark chocolate and nougat. Also naturally processed but medium roasted. Both are amazing.
I truly appreciate the full menu options. Breakfast sandwiches use fresh bread from Wildflower. You must arrive early for the pastries and cookies. They tend to sell out fast. Beyond great coffee, the shop is a true community center. It is designed for connection and unwinding. The place hosts live events on Saturday and Sunday mornings.
Mission Coffee & Tea is a critical part of the East Valley landscape. It is the definition of community warmth built around world class craft.

SoZo Coffee House
A 3,500 square foot space built for people, with a Cinnamon Toast Crunch latte to match.
Look, I’ve been to a lot of coffee shops. Ugh, so many coffee shops. Some are all aesthetic and no substance. Some have great coffee but treat you like you’re interrupting their day. SoZo is different, and I can’t quite explain it without sounding like I’m gushing, so I’m just gonna gush. Scott and Lori Morgan built this place. When you read reviews, people mention them by name. They talk about “beautiful people who love what they do.” You don’t normally see that in coffee shop reviews. You see “good coffee” and “nice vibe,” but you don’t usually get people talking about the owners like they actually know them. That tells you something.
The space is ridiculous in the best way. 3,500 square feet. I know, I know, that’s not huge by commercial standards, but for a coffee shop? It’s massive. They clearly thought about how to use it too. You’ve got areas for people who want to work alone, couches for groups to spread out, an outdoor patio for when Chandler’s heat isn’t trying to kill you, private meeting rooms if you’re boring and need to have a “business meeting,” and here’s the kicker, a kids playroom so families can actually visit and not lose their minds.
The menu is inventive without being pretentious. Their Cinnamon Toast Crunch Latte is legit one of the best decisions I’ve made in a coffee shop. It shouldn’t work, but it does. The cochata hits different. Their blueberry hibiscus tea tastes like actual blueberries, not “blueberry flavoring” if you know what I mean. They source from Cartel Coffee Lab and do the whole fair trade direct relationship thing, which is cool but also means the coffee actually tastes like someone cared about it from seed to cup.
Food wise, they’ve got vegetable burritos, fresh fruit, oatmeal, apple cinnamon bars. Not trying to be a restaurant, just genuinely good stuff to go with your coffee or tea. You appreciate it.
Weekend nights this place transforms. Live music. Poetry readings. You can actually rent the entire venue if you want to throw an event. Album releases, weddings, baby showers, whatever. The stage and AV system are included. It’s like what would happen if someone said “what if we built a community hub that also serves excellent coffee” instead of the other way around.
The staff is actually friendly. Like not the performative “I’m paid to smile” friendly but genuinely interested in making your day better. The details matter too. Wheelchair accessible. Gender neutral restrooms. Apple Pay, Android Pay, all that stuff. Every little thing screams “everyone is welcome here.” Honestly? If you are in Chandler and you want a place that feels like it was built for humans instead of optimization, SoZo is it. Just so you know though, it can get busy on weekends and parking fills up fast during events. But that’s the price of a place that actually matters to people.
Go try the Cinnamon Toast Crunch Latte. Thank me later.
Gilbert
Mythical Coffee Roasters
In-house roasting and wildly creative lattes that proved Gilbert belongs.
Mythical Coffee is a titan of the East Valley scene a part of a newer wave that proves Gilbert is no longer a “dud” for great specialty coffee. When I first visited this shop it had been open for only two weeks and now it is an essential destination for any serious enthusiast. The entire concept is built around in-house roasting and a deep commitment to quality and bean sourcing. The focus is apparent in their outstanding pour over bar which features a rotating global selection of meticulously sourced single origin coffees. You get detailed tasting notes which turn every cup into a global flavor journey. [Update Feb 2026: sadly, they no longer offer the pour over slow bar].
Mythical’s atmosphere is the classic Arizona Minimalist aesthetic which means it is bright cozy and welcoming but often full because Gilbert is still badly under served by great shops. Mythical’s menu is pure Magical Creativity. You can find anything from a traditional flawless Cortado to a wildly creative and balanced Lavender & Blueberry Latte or a smoky Peach Bourbon Latte. I just hope you are not planning on ordering one of their bafflingly named Banana Colada drinks when the place is busy. Mythical quickly became a favorite for locals searching for thoughtfully crafted specialty coffee.

Casita Coffee
A Latino-owned favorite pouring horchata lattes and just-roasted beans.
If you ever wander through Old Town Gilbert craving a world class coffee cup, keep walking south on Gilbert Road for about ten minutes. Cross the railroad tracks. Pass the Art Intersection exhibit. Walk beyond the open field. There you’ll find Casita Coffee. A little shop that feels like a warm hug.
This is not your average coffee stop. It feels like home. The air smells like fresh espresso. The vibe is cozy and full of heart. Casita started as a mobile trailer at the Gilbert Farmers Market. Now it is a beloved brick & mortar cafe at 7 E Palo Verde St.
Owners Ana and Saul Herrera, both ASU alumni, built Casita to celebrate their Latino roots. That pride and energy shows everywhere.
The menu is quite creative. The horchata latte is a fan favorite. So is the blue churro latte and the peanut butter latte. Seasonal specials rotate in also. I tried the Chagaccino served hot (though you can get it iced). It was fantastically smooth and rich. But the real star? A simple whole milk latte. One of the best I have had (and I’ve had a lot). The espresso itself shines. Casita sources its beans from Moxie Coffee Company, a high end local roaster. Saul personally chooses his coffee beans. He hunts for the perfect flavor profile. The beans you will drink here are usually within 4-5 days from roasting! That freshness shows. My latte used a single origin Colombia El Nevado. The notes of red apple and dark chocolate were notable (yes, even in an espresso milk drink!). Every sip felt alive.
Behind the counter, a La Marzocco Linea espresso machine hums like a prized instrument. It delivers stunning espresso shots every time. And if you love matcha, Casita is a small paradise for matcha lovers. Plenty of options and all crafted with the same care.
The space is cozy so finding a table can be tricky during rush hours but they offer takeout and outdoor seating too.
Casita Coffee is a Gilbert favorite just a short distance away from the heritage district. Stop by and you will quickly see why it has earned such a loyal following.
Mesa
BAK & JO Bakery and Coffee Shop
Vietnamese coffee, pistachio croissants, and a vegan bakery tucked inside.
Imagine this: You walk into Bak & Jo on a Mesa morning and immediately notice the aroma. It’s not one single scent but a symphony. Fresh coffee roasting from beans sourced at Xanadu and Sagebrush mingles with warm butter and flaky croissant layers baking fresh from the oven. Your shoulders relax instantly. The space itself invites you to stay. Bright natural light floods across clean, modern surfaces. Music plays softly. You notice a few locals tucked into corners with laptops, others catching up with friends over coffee. Everyone seems happy to be here.
Order your coffee and watch the care that goes into each drink. Ask for something seasonal or go straight for their authentic Vietnamese coffee. It arrives perfect. Then grab a pastry. Every option calls to you, but if you’re wise, you’ll choose the pistachio cream croissant. Bite into it and experience the craftsmanship: butter-laminated dough so flaky it shatters on your lips, inside a velvet filling of pistachio cream that tastes like luxury but feels comfortable, like a friend’s kitchen rather than a fancy bakery. It’s that rare pastry that makes you pause and actually taste what you’re eating.
Beyond the croissants and excellent breakfast burritos, Bak & Jo carries authentic Banh Mi that transport you straight to Vietnam. The owners run this place with real care and you feel it in every detail. If you have dietary restrictions, Sweet Simon, a vegan and gluten-free bakery nestled inside, proves that special diets do not mean sacrificing flavor or quality. Their creations are delicious, not “good for vegan” but just plain good.
The atmosphere here is deliberately relaxed and de-stressing. This is a place you want to linger and not rush through. Whether you are catching up with a friend, powering through work, or just seeking a moment of peace with exceptional coffee and pastries, Bak & Jo delivers on every level. This is what a modern cafe should be like. Skilled, diverse, inclusive, and welcoming.

Pair Cupworks
A precise pour-over slow bar hidden in the back of Cider Corps.
You are walking along lively West Main in Mesa on a warm afternoon. Your shoulders are tense from the heat outside. You step into the cool space of Cider Corps looking for relief. You follow the sound of conversation deeper into the space, past the cider taps and past the pizza counter. There at the back corner sits Pair Cupworks. A small nook at the end of the counter. A modern menu on a TV screen is small but electrifying. You notice a dedicated “Slow Bar” section offering a rotating list of unique pour-overs, categorized by flavor profiles like fruity and funky! Behind that counter you will see a Barista pulling espresso shots with the focus of a surgeon and steaming milk with precision. The drinks are crafted like assembling art.
You step up to order. You catch sight of another customer’s drink being handed over: it is beautiful. Latte art. Then your attention is drawn to the counter, where you see a shot of espresso dripping rich and dark from the group head of the La Marzocco Linea machine for another order. You decide to go with the vanilla latte made with a house syrup. While you wait, you notice the space. The seating is generous, the kind of place where you can actually spread out. Around you, people are working on laptops, meeting friends, lingering. The chairs cradle your lower back. Indie music plays softly. Despite the activity from the cider drinkers and pizza crowd, there is something calm here.
Your drink arrives. You lift the cup and that smell intensifies. You take a sip. The espresso is smooth and the vanilla syrup adds subtle sweetness and complexity without drowning out the coffee. It is balanced & thoughtful. You enjoy the moment.
Try the Americano with cardamom syrup and discover how a single spice transforms everything creating layers you were not expecting. Their pour-overs let you taste the characteristics of each origin while the craftsmanship shows in every sip. Yes, specialty drinks here come at a premium. Yes, the portions are modest. But what you are paying for is precision. You are paying for house made syrups created on site. You are paying for baristas who studied their craft and want to nail your drink. This is coffee as craft. And when you taste it, you understand the price immediately.
The location is quiet and unmarked. Not advertising itself to drive by traffic. This is a place you have to know about or stumble upon. The shared space with cider and pizza means afternoons can feel a bit chaotic, especially weekends around noon. But that is part of the charm. It is real. It is local. It is three small passionate businesses thriving together in one corner. Walk deeper into Cider Corps. Follow that roasted coffee and cinnamon smell. You’ll find Pair Cupworks waiting.
There is a specific kind of magic when a coffee shop graduates from a trailer to a real space. The vibes are rarely the same. The corners get sanded down. The personality leaks out. Somehow, 10:19 pulled it off.
Not long ago, you could find Leilani and Ty pouring drinks out of a vintage Airstream parked in front of Taqueria Factory on Arizona Ave. Now they have a real spot in Uptown Chandler and the place has range. Pastel waves wash across the upper walls. A gallery of clocks (a nod to the name) takes over another. The service counter is deep green with a light stone top running the full length. The pendant lights are woven. And a chunky white La Marzocco anchors the whole bar. It is retro without trying too hard which is the hardest kind of retro to pull off.
Now to the drinks because that is why we are here. The house coffee beans are a single origin Honduras from Little Jupiter Cafe which I also reviewed on this site. The beans are of washed process and medium roasted. Slight notes of cocoa powder, praline, brown spice, hazelnut and red apple. As a guy who favors light roasted single origin beans, I am into it. The espresso runs mellow rather than punchy but here it is doing a job. The drink program is built around bold flavored signatures and the espresso is meant to support, not steal the show.
And the signatures are where 10:19 really flexes. The menu pulls from Filipino, Korean and Vietnamese coffee traditions while still feeling like its own thing. The Brown Bear is a brown sugar latte topped with house made salted caramel foam and a little graham bear biscuit perched on the lid. Whimsy in a cup. The Espresso Split uses house made Korean style banana milk and sweet cream foam with a chocolate drizzle. And the Blueberry Cloud rounds things out with sweet cream foam and a blueberry drizzle.
We worked our way through two drinks on this visit, and both delivered. The first was the I'm a Star, their tiramisu latte, and it might be the slam dunk of the menu. Cocoa, mascarpone and espresso all sitting in perfect balance. No flavor elbowing the others out. The espresso is not bitter but it also does not bring much of its own personality which turns out to be exactly what a drink like this needs. The bean is a perfect pairing partner. The second was the Blueberry Cheesecake Matcha, which sounds like it could go sideways but absolutely does not. The matcha and blueberry sit in perfect harmony, and the whole thing is rich and smooth in a way that genuinely reminds you of cheesecake. Two for two.
A word of warning. The shop can be loud. Like, very loud when it is busy. This is not the place to grind out emails or finish your novel. This is the place to grab a drink, post up at the bar and chat with whoever is working the espresso machine.
10:19 is named after a moment in time that means a lot to the owners. A reminder to pause. To check in. To think about family. To wish.
And yeah, you should probably go make a wish.

Every once in a while a shop opens in the Phoenix area that makes you stop and ask, wait, that is here? Sable Boulangerie is one of those. A tiny walk up pastry and coffee shop tucked next to Liberty Market in Downtown Gilbert opened in mid May 2026 and the line out the door has not let up since.
I have driven over a few times. I gave up every time. The line was long. So this is a pre-review. If I cannot taste it yet, I might as well do the homework. So I spent some time reading up on the owner, the training, the flour (yes, the flour) and how this whole thing landed in Gilbert. Here is the story and why this place matters.
The owner is a Gilbert kid. Will Porter grew up about 5 minutes from where the shop sits today. He went to Phoenix Country Day School and then attended Tufts University in Boston. And then did what very few Gilbert kids do. He moved to France. He enrolled at ENSP, a historic pastry school in Yssingeaux that operates out of a refurbished chateau (because in France, pastry school cannot just be a building. It has to be a castle). From there, Chef William Porter went to Paris and worked under Cedric Grolet who is basically the LeBron James of modern French pastry. After Paris, he took a post inside the Burj Al Arab in Dubai, the hotel that mostly hosts royals and billionaires.
And then he came home to Gilbert.
That last part is the most interesting question to me. Why Gilbert and not Scottsdale or Arcadia or Uptown Phoenix where a fancy French pastry shop would be a slam dunk on the marketing side? Chef Will Porter is pretty open about it. Pastry, the way he wants to do it, is what he calls a grind business. It is a middle of the night, on your feet, no shortcuts kind of job. And to do that for years on end, you need family, friends and a community around you. So he came back to the place that raised him. There is something heartwarming about that.
A small note for the curious. The shop is named Sable Boulangerie, but the legal and web identity is Maison William Porter. In French pastry land, "Maison" is loaded. Think Maison Pierre Herme or Maison Cedric Grolet. It signals a chef-driven house and not a regular bakery. Porter trained under Grolet, whose own brand uses the same structure. So this is him quietly telling you what standard he wants to be measured against. Which is to say, do not walk in expecting a Paris Baguette (no offense to PB).
Now the nerdy part because I cannot help myself. Every bag of flour at Sable comes from a single mill in France called Antoine. Porter says the flour had never been imported into the United States before. He had to deal with FDA labels, customs paperwork and the joy of waiting for a shipping container to fill up before the boat could even leave port. He and his team then ran somewhere between 24 and 30 dough tests in Gilbert to re-tune the recipe for American eggs, Arizona humidity (or lack of rather) and the citric acid that apparently shows up in our domestic whole egg products. That is a level of fuss most bakeries would never bother with. It is also the kind of detail that tells you a lot about Porter's operation before you even taste anything!
The shop itself is tiny. William calls it a pastry lab rather than a kitchen. He runs it with one other person. Dough is mixed, laminated, shaped, proofed and baked in the same overnight cycle. By 8AM the croissants are coming out of the oven. The menu is small on purpose. Chef Will Porter has said the pain au chocolat is his signature, not the croissant. He considers it the hardest pastry he makes. He has strong opinions about American versions of it (under proofed, meaty centers, peeling exteriors) and is openly trying to change minds.
A small note since this is, in theory, a craft coffee website. The coffee menu at Sable is tiny for now. Latte, Latte Vanille, Latte Pistache, Latte Hazelnut and a Paris Hot Chocolate. That is five drinks. If you order coffee by elevation and processing method, take a deep breath. But the place is very new. I am betting the menu grows in the future. Until then, I will be over there ordering a Latte Pistache once I get past the line.
So why am I writing about a place I have not eaten at yet? Because the story is already cool and because you should know what is sitting next to the water tower in old town Gilbert the next time you are out there. I am going to wait a few weeks for the early hype line to cool down then go back and actually try the coffee and the pastries.
A real review may follow. Or maybe not. Though honestly, with a resume like that (flour imported from a single French mill, recipes re-calibrated for American eggs and Arizona humidity, dough tested 30 different ways) the math checks out. The pastries are almost certainly going to be out of this world.
For now, all I can tell you is this. A Gilbert kid trained in a French castle and worked for one of the most famous pastry chefs alive then did a tour at the Burj Al Arab and came back home to bake croissants for his neighbors. Gilbert just got a very fancy tenant and a zip code upgrade.

Tourte de Seigle The Tourte de Seigle, or "Rye Bread" in French, contains very little gluten and is normally leavened with sourdough starter. Its signature dark brown color is due to the rye flour. Rye flour is made by milling rye grains, offering a distinct earthy, slightly tangy flavor and darker color than wheat flour.
Baguette Tradition To be recognized as a baguette de tradition under French law, it must adhere to strict standards — beginning with the use of authentic French T65 tradition flour.
Pain Suisse The Pain Suisse is a Viennese pastry consisting of double laminated croissant dough on the outside enveloping a vanilla cream with chocolate chips.
Pain Au Chocolat The Pain Au Chocolat is the crown jewel of SABLE. It is by far the most difficult Viennoisserie to perfect. Our Pain Au Chocolat uses an extra bitter-sweet chocolate bar that pairs very well with a latte or cappuccino!
Croissant It’s the measure of a baker, the first proof of discipline, patience, and respect for ingredients. At SABLE, it’s made the way it should be — with authentic flour, real butter, and time. No shortcuts. No compromises. SABLE begins here.

Downtown Gilbert just got a coffee shop built by parents who were tired of having nowhere good to take their kids. Villa Meola Coffee is that place and it is worth the trip.
Michael and Callen Meola are the couple behind it. Before this shop existed, they spent years searching for places with enough space for their two young daughters to roam around without anyone losing their mind. Instead of just accepting that nothing quite fit, they built the place they always wanted.
The name "Villa Meola" is what they always called their own home. The whole idea is that you feel invited the same way a friend would invite you over. Walking around the space, you get that.
They ended up partnering with Mario Cimmino of Gelato Cimmino, the authentic Italian gelato shop right there in Downtown Gilbert. The two businesses now share the space which gives the whole place a strong Italian character that goes well beyond the menu.
And speaking of Italian character, the espresso here comes out of an Astoria machine with a manual lever. There are maybe a handful of shops in all of Arizona running human powered manual levers. Unlike modern pump-driven machines, the lever puts the extraction entirely in the hands of the barista. It is harder to master but produces a creamy texture that a pump-driven machine simply struggles to replicate. Even the pressure profiler expensive machiens with all the fancy electronics strugle to replicate a pull like a human would. The beans are from Momentto Coffee roasters and is a medium roasted blend with a full body and zero bitterness. That combination shows in the cup.
The drinks are named after Italian classics. Limoncello, Cannoli, Caffe Forza, Spumoni. We got the Spumoni, named after the molded Italian gelato. It is deeply chocolatey with pistachio pieces at the bottom and a subtle cherry note running underneath. If the cherry had a bit more presence, this drink would be almost unfairly good. We also got the Cannoli Latte, which uses house made almond milk and actual cannoli cream on top in place of cold foam. Gentle cinnamon notes, everything done right.
All drinks come out half sweet by default, which is the right call. Every drink also arrives with a small piece of biscotti (noticeably better than anything from a store shelf). You can buy extra pieces and you probably should. They are that good!
The space is big. There is indoor and outdoor seating, a large patio with umbrellas, a play area for kids and a little iron fence around the patio with a self closing gate so the kiddos do not wander into the street. There are books, games and plenty of reasons for a small kid to stay happily occupied while you actually enjoy your drink.
Gilbert needed a spot like this. A family friendly space with genuinely great coffee, Italian inspired drinks and gelato all under the same roof is not something you just stumble across. The Meolas built exactly what they were looking for. As it turns out, a lot of other people were looking for the same thing.

Jarrod's Coffee, Tea & Gallery is one of the more eclectic spots on my list in downtown Mesa. It operates out of a renovated vintage house, which gives the whole place a character you do not find in a standard cafe. This is officially on my radar for an in person visit and full review. Stay tuned!
In the meantime, here is a high level view of what I know about this spot so far:
The Vibe: A vibrant community hub set inside a renovated vintage house. It works as a coffee shop, an art gallery, and an event venue all at once.
The Coffee Program: A wide range of coffee and tea drinks. The menu includes flavored lattes and nitro cold brew.
The Food: Fresh food items alongside the drinks, including sandwiches and vegan pastries.
The Gallery: An art gallery showcasing local Arizona artists.
Events: A venue for live music, comedy, and poetry nights.
I have not visited Jarrod's in person yet. Check back soon for my full review!

Moka & Co just opened a new location in downtown Chandler's Heritage District and it is easily one of the most visually striking coffee shops in the East Valley. If you care at all about design, walk in just for that. You will not regret it.
The space stops you in your tracks. Large floor to ceiling glass panes wrap the entrance. Inside, custom geometric wood carvings cover the walls and woven pendant lights hang overhead, all of it illuminated by soft backlighting that keeps the room warm but crisp. The barista counter is wrapped in bright marble. The furniture is sleek light wood with gorgeous woven chairs that somehow feel both minimal and comfortable at the same time. It is the kind of interior that makes you wonder who designed it and whether they do residential work. Oh, and there is a gorgeous Victoria Arduino espresso machine behind the bar. The Mesa location runs a super automatic machine. Chandler gets the Eagle One. We lucked out.
There are two outdoor seating areas, one in the front and one at the back. The front faces Chandler's Heritage District and the Crowne Plaza across the street. It is a great people watching spot with the park in view and steady foot traffic on a Friday evening. The back shares a wall with Craft 64's patio, which was absolutely packed during my visit. If you want quiet, go inside or sit out front. Indoors is remarkably calm with plenty of tables and power outlets if you need to plug in.
The area itself is one of the more walkable pockets in the East Valley. Dining, unique shops, Saturday farmers market and regular events make this a destination neighborhood worth spending a few hours in.
Now, the drinks. Moka & Co is a Yemeni specialty coffee brand with a genuine farm to cup story. The original founder comes from a family of coffee farmers in Yemen who continue to grow beans on high altitude farms to this day. That origin story is real and it matters. For the espresso, I asked the barista to show me the actual beans going into the grinder and they looked medium roast to my eye. But the shot pulled bold and dark, 18 grams at 28 seconds. My honest take is that I kept thinking about what those Yemeni beans could taste like if the roast let them speak a little more (to the lighter side). But that is my bias as someone who gravitates toward light roasts. Bold coffee drinkers will be genuinely happy here.
The Mufawar was the most interesting thing I tried. It is ground coffee mixed with cardamom, a touch of cinnamon and hints of ginger, all simmered with full fat milk or cream and strained into the cup. It arrives very hot and the cardamom leads from start to finish. It was good in its own way and it felt authentic. It is not for everyone but if cardamom is your thing, order it without hesitation.
The Adeni Chai was an unexpected highlight. I only had a small cold sample but the tea flavor was clean and dominant. Worth ordering.
The food is worth your attention too. I tried the potato samboosa, the spinach pie and the feta pie. The feta pie was the clear winner, genuinely delicious with soft dough. The spinach pie was solid as well. The pastry case also has cinnamon rolls, almond croissants and various Middle Eastern options if you want something on the sweeter side.
Moka & Co is a family's legacy poured into a cup and carried across oceans to Chandler's old downtown. They are growing fast across Arizona and based on this Heritage District location, it is easy to see why. The brand is polished, the space is beautiful and the Yemeni coffee culture they are bringing to the East Valley is something most locals are only now getting their first look at. Go for the atmosphere, stay for the Mufawar and leave some room for the feta pie.

Charlee Rose Coffee in Gilbert is a boutique coffee shop tucked inside a flower shop. The menu is focused, the drinks are serious and the whole thing is wonderful.
There is a moment when you walk into Charlee Rose Coffee where you think, "wait, am I in the right place?" You are. The coffee operation sits inside Lena's flower and plant shop on Gilbert Rd (just a short walk from the heritage district) and is surrounded by greenery and a calm that most coffee shops spend a lot of money trying to manufacture. Here it is just... natural.
This is a family run shop and they have only been open for about six months as of this writing (they ran a trailer before finding their home inside the flower shop). The care shows in the details. They weigh out their ingredients for drinks and they source single origin and organic Mexican Chiapas beans from Bergies Coffee, a local roaster right here in Gilbert. That is the kind of thing that separates people who take coffee seriously from everyone else. Fresh delivery is on the shelf so you can grab a bag of those same medium roasted beans to take home if you like.
On my visit I tried the Strawberry Cheesecake Latte from the Spring menu and it was an A+ experience! Perfectly balanced, no bitterness from the espresso and none of that lazy move some shops pull where the cup is packed wall to wall with ice and you are left with a watered down drink. This one was dialed in. The whipped cream on top was something else entirely. Rich, flavorful and delicious.
I also had the traditional latte with whole milk. The Mexican Chiapas beans came through beautifully and the drink was balanced start to finish. One more thing worth noting: they adjust the number of espresso shots based on drink size so the larger size is not just a more diluted version of the smaller one. That is the mark of a shop that actually cares about what they are serving.
If you haven't tried it yet, the Cinnamon Roll Latte is the thing to get. It is topped with whipped cream cheese and it is as good as it sounds. The white mocha with strawberry cold foam is worth your attention too. They also offer some healthier and unique drink options if you want to go that route. If you are hungry, pastries come from Sweet Surrender Pastries which is a local bakery operation specializing in vegan and celiac-safe options. Great stuff you can actually feel good about eating.
WiFi is available and the seating situation is genuinely impressive. Multiple sofas and chairs in tucked away spots spread across the space. Many of the seating areas are far enough apart that you feel like you have your own little corner of the world. If you are the type to work from a laptop and worry about prying eyes, this place has you covered.
Charlee Rose is refreshing in every sense of the word. It does not try to be a big coffee brand. It just tries to be good. And it is.

Aristocrat Coffee Roasters is a new specialty coffee shop in Downtown Chandler, AZ. The menu includes espresso drinks, Greek coffee, pour-over (coming soon) and desserts.
Paul Roupas is Greek. He named his coffee shop after his favorite saxophone (which hangs proudly on the wall). He worked alongside his father in the restaurant industry for years and carries a long list of SCA certifications under his belt. And somewhere along the way he fell deeply in love with coffee. That combination of hospitality instinct and coffee nerd energy is exactly what Downtown Chandler needed.
When I walked into Aristocrat for the first time, the first thing I noticed was the machine. Sitting on the bar was a black Kees Van Der Westen Spirit espresso machine. I had seen one years ago at a coffee shop out on the west coast during my travels. I thought I would never see one again. Here it was, in Chandler. Paul knows what he is doing.
Currently, espresso is made using single origin Mexican Chiapas beans. I am not always a huge fan of Chiapas, but Paul pulled a latte that was phenomenal! The Kees does not hurt. And here is something I appreciate: hot lattes come in one size. One. If a coffee shop offers you three or four size options, that is usually not a good sign. Every size change throws off calibration and you lose the balance of the drink. At Aristocrat, you do not have to worry about that.
My wife ordered a Freddo Cappuccino (half sweet). For those unfamiliar, it is a popular Greek iced coffee made with a double shot of espresso shaken with ice and topped with thick cold frothed milk. I may have stolen a few sips when she was not looking. It was layered, creamy and perfectly sweet. I highly recommend it.
Paul is also obsessed with roasting quality. He measures the moisture content of green coffee to make sure it lands in the optimal range. He roasts on a Probat which is about as serious as it gets for heat retention and thermal consistency. This is some serious high tech equipment here.
Pour-over options are not ready as of my first visit (mid-March) but they are coming very soon. A Chemex setup is already in place and counter mounted heat lamps are already installed. That kind of detail tells you everything about what to expect.
Parking is easy. There is free street parking and a free city garage right across the street. There is also a nice patio for the cooler months.
Aristocrat Coffee Roasters is in soft opening right now. And honestly, as someone who lives in the East Valley, I find that exciting. This neighborhood does not always get first dibs on the best things. But here is a shop with a world-class espresso machine, a roaster who measures moisture content in green coffee, SCA certifications on the wall and Greek coffee on the menu. This is the kind of place that other cities brag about having. It is right here in Downtown Chandler. Go now, while it is still quiet. You will want to say you were there early.

Does Light Heart taste as good as it looks? It depends on what you are looking for. If you want a beautiful Instagram-worthy drink that also tastes good, absolutely yes. If you want explosive flavor that matches the dramatic presentation, you might be surprised by how restrained the taste is.
I recently visited the downtown Gilbert location which opened in December 2025. This is the newest outpost from four friends (Caleb and Moriah Holland, Elliott and Maddi Morris) who launched their first shop in 2022. The brand grew quickly thanks to photogenic drinks topped with pink cold foam and vibrant matcha layers that look like art statements on your feed.
This location fills a gap that the Gilbert Heritage District has been missing for a while. The space features open seating, natural light, earthy tones, and boho-inspired decor that feels vacation adjacent (a nod to the founders' time in Hawaii). There is a long outdoor patio perfect for people watching with your dog.
This location has a full kitchen (unlike the original Scottsdale shop). You can order breakfast sandwiches and burritos with hash browns inside. The staff happily accommodates modifications. Pastries sell out early so arrive before midday if you want one.
Light Heart uses coffee beans from Moxie Coffee Co. I actually reviewed this roaster last year on this site. They are the Colombia Laboyano beans if you care to know. Good stuff but I personally would have preferred the El Nevado over the Laboyano.
Light Heart relies on a Victoria Arduino machine. This is a brand synonymous with extreme precision as it is often the chosen hardware for the World Barista Championship and the U.S. Coffee Championships. It’s the kind of gear that turns coffee brewing into an exact science.
As for the matcha, Light Heart uses organic ceremonial grade Nekohama matcha sourced directly from Japan. Apparently, about half of their sales are now matcha-based drinks.
I visited on a Sunday early afternoon. The line was long but moved quick. I tried two drinks. The NISU (homemade vanilla syrup, raspberry walls, cardamom) and the Berry Cobbler (their most popular drink, a brown sugar latte or matcha with wild berry puree). Both were well-crafted with lighter, more delicate profiles than the bold visual presentation suggests. The NISU was a bit sweeter than the Berry Cobbler but not overly sweet. It could be because the two drinks were two different sizes. The drinks are beautifully made and taste pleasant. Just understand that the approach here leans elegant and subtle rather than punchy. The visual impact is the main event and the flavor is a supporting character.
The aesthetic is undeniable. The drinks are gorgeous. The space is thoughtfully designed. The staff is friendly and efficient even when slammed. Light Heart excels at creating an experience. There are coffee shops where the drink is the star, and there are coffee shops where the photo of the drink is the star. Light Heart falls in the latter camp with a brief seasonal menu to keep the feed fresh.
Gilbert needed a specialty coffee shop in the Heritage old town area. Light Heart fills that role with charm and genuine hospitality. The drinks are well made and the experience is enjoyable. You just need to know what you are getting into before you order.

The Bookish Shop in downtown Gilbert is the ultimate destination for romance readers who want a side of caffeine with their latest read. It opened its doors on April 4 2025 and has quickly established itself as a charming community hub. You will immediately notice that the drinks are a major draw here alongside the books rather than just serving as an afterthought add on. I love that the emphasis is on themed specialty drinks that match the romance and bookish aesthetic like the Death Incarnate. The cozy community vibe actually reminds me quite a bit of Revolutionary Grounds Books & Coffee in Tucson. It is so exciting to have another great coffee and books place in the Valley of the Sun to complement spots like William's Coffee Co. You should definitely keep an eye on their schedule because if you are lucky you could walk in on an author book signing.
