If you want a break from standard espresso options, Steep Leaf Lounge in downtown Flagstaff offers a different experience. While the focus is primarily on tea rather than coffee, the lounge remains a notable local stop for its overall environment. Steep Leaf Lounge does offer cold brew and espresso options like lattes, but tea is the primary feature.
This independent, family owned business operates as a combined retail shop and lounge. The main display features around 80 loose-leaf teas (along with additional off menu varieties) sourced from small producers in Japan and China. The retail selection covers chai, matcha, herbal, black, oolong, white, pu-erh and mate. Teas can be enjoyed at the shop or retail/bulk to take home.
Staff members provide guidance on brewing techniques including recommendations for water temperature, steep times and multiple infusions.
The interior includes window seating, couches and pillow lined seating nooks. The shop also displays rotating work from local artists and potters which is available for purchase. In-house pastries and small food items round out the menu options.
