Driving up the I-17 is one of those slogs where you sort of accept that your coffee options are going to be sad. Gas station drip. A drive thru chain. Maybe a sketchy QT cappuccino if you are feeling brave. So the idea of pulling off at an exit in Black Canyon City for a real coffee shop sounds almost too good to be true. But Shiloh CoffeeHouse is the real deal.
It is tucked into Harmil Plaza, run by the family that owns it and has that easy lived in feel that family run shops always seem to nail. There is no corporate friendliness script happening here. Just genuine small town warmth from people who actually want you to enjoy your coffee. Imagine the opposite of every interaction you have ever had at a highway rest stop. That is Shiloh.
Here is the part that got me. They pour Peixoto. Yes, that Peixoto. The Chandler crop-to-cup family farm operation that helped put Arizona specialty coffee on the map. And now those beans are sitting at a coffee bar 60 miles north of Phoenix in a town of about 2,500 people. That is wild. That is a flex. The espresso pulls accordingly and the lattes and cappuccinos taste good.
And the food is not an afterthought. Fresh muffins, pastries and hearty breakfast burritos round out the menu, which is perfect before a long stretch of highway.
A full review is coming soon. Below you will find the complete Shiloh CoffeeHouse menu. Expect espresso drinks, brewed coffee and tea. Pastries and breakfast options are also available.
