Red Hawk's Java House

There is a coffee shop inside an MMA gym in Peoria. That is the shortest way to describe Red Hawk's Java House and it is also the least useful one. The gym is Red Hawk Academy, Tim Welch's 12,000 square foot Brazilian jiu jitsu and MMA facility on West Peoria Avenue. The Java House began as a counter in the academy's old strip plaza and got its own LLC in April 2024. When the academy built its new headquarters the coffee shop moved in with it.

This reads as a fuel and recovery program more than a third wave destination. The crowd is fighters, gym parents and Sun City regulars on class changeover. The menu leans performance (Thorne recovery drinks, protein shakes, acai bowls, breakfast burritos). None of that would matter if the espresso were an afterthought. It is not.

The Vibe

• A lounge attached to the mat room, with oversized comfortable chairs and a carefully curated book nook.
• The room belongs to the gym schedule. Expect fighters and families, not laptop culture.
• Hard to find. Several directories still point to the old plaza address a few suites away.

The Coffee Program

• Beans come from Press Roastery in Phoenix, a wholesale partner rather than in-house roasting.
• House-made sweeteners and organic milk anchor the drink list.
• Espresso drinks share the board with a deep matcha roster (Vanilla Cinnamon Matcha Latte, Honey Lavender Iced Matcha Latte). The Black Cherry Vanilla Latte is the regular favorite.
• No drip or slow bar in sight. Happy hour runs Monday through Friday, 3 to 4 PM.

The Food

• Organic acai bowls from $11, chorizo breakfast burritos, sourdough toast, protein shakes.
