Happy Joe Coffee

Happy Joe Coffee started in 2014 as a neighborhood cafe in the North Hollywood Arts District. In 2017, the shop gained a passionate following as a pioneer of CBD-infused coffee in America. After a 2019 fire destroyed the original location, owners Joe and Breanne Yarbrough rebuilt, launched the Happy Joe brand, and brought their craft coffee experience to Tempe, Arizona, right at the edge of the ASU campus.

The Vibe: A small corner shop with chalk art walls, laptops inside and outdoor tables. It is work friendly and casual, more campus lounge than quiet office. On Friday evenings the room turns into Happy Joe Pizza, a Detroit style concept pulled from the owners' hometown roots, forty pies a week, long lines and most weeks sold out before close.

The Coffee Program: CBD is the differentiator. The company nano emulsifies CBD into the bean itself rather than dosing the cup with a dropper, 20 mg per cup, under 0.3% THC, from organic hemp, third party tested. CBD can also be added to any drink as a tasteless and odorless liquid, meant to take the edge off the caffeine, the jitters and the crash. The Just Coffee line skips the CBD and rotates between a Signature Blend, an Ethiopia Yirgacheffe single origin and a decaf. The Vanilla Bean Cold Brew is the signature order.

The Baking: The OG chunky banana bread is the signature bake, with loaded waffles, bagel sandwiches and avocado bagels filling the case.

Catering Services: The shop handles everything from coffee and pastry spreads to Detroit pizza for crowds, for campus events, offices and parties.
