Buckeye
DeGiNo Coffee in Buckeye, AZ is a family owned coffee bar with a menu rooted in beans grown on the owners' own family plantation in Nayarit, Mexico. This one has a story worth knowing. Inocente and Tania Cayetano are third generation coffee growers. Their family has been cultivating Arabica beans in the highlands of Nayarit for generations. Growing at high altitude in shaded terrain without chemicals or pesticides. At some point the family decided to bring that heritage directly to the cup and DeGiNo was born. Before the brick and mortar shop existed they were running a food truck. The shop came later. The beans are organically grown, full bodied and low acid. And if you fall in love with your cup, bags are available to take home. The space is small and full of character. Comfortable inside with a cute little patio out front that adds to the overall charm. It can get lively when packed but that is usually a sign that a neighborhood has found its spot. The staff here genuinely stands out. Every person I interacted with had a warm and positive attitude that felt completely natural rather than scripted. Small touches such as writing positive notes on the cups are nice. It sounds minor but it sets the tone for the whole visit in a way that is hard to forget. DeGiNo is the kind of place that earns your loyalty fast. A real family story, honest coffee and a team that makes you feel like a regular on your first visit. ▶Click to View the Drink Menu Note: Menu items are subject to change. Flagstaff
Flagstaff has a hidden gem that brings the authentic soul of Chiapas Mexico right to the mountains. Mayan Winds Coffee Emporium is easily one of the most heartwarming spots you will find in town because the owners source organic beans directly from family farms in Latin America. You can taste the difference in every single cup and I was blown away by the rich Mexican Mocha which has just the right kick of cayenne and cinnamon. You really need to ask for a sample of their traditional cacao or honey while you are there because the owner loves sharing the history behind them. The vibe is super peaceful with vinyl records playing in the corner and plenty of comfy seating. Do not leave without trying a pistachio muffin or a spicy chai because they are absolute game changers.

Think your local coffee shop really knows its beans? Peixoto does not just know them, they grew them! On their family farm in Brazil where the Peixoto name has been tied to coffee for over a century. Walk into this place and the first thing that hits you is the light. High ceilings pull your eyes up to exposed beams and industrial touches that somehow feel warm instead of cold. Hanging pothos plants cascade down from above (and they look healthy, which means someone here actually cares). The space breathes. Natural sunlight pours through the windows and catches on the glassware they use for every drink. These are not paper cups. Your latte arrives in actual glass that shows off the layers and the foam art. The smell is what keeps you there. Fresh roasted coffee with none of that burnt edge you get at places that do not understand their beans. Peixoto roasts light to let the natural flavors come through. Their espresso leans bright and fruity. It tastes different because it is different. This is honey processed coffee from their own farm at Fazenda Sao Jose da Boa Vista in Minas Gerais. The seasonal menu changes with intention. Right now you might find a Hot Honey Latte with cayenne that somehow works. Or a Kettle Corn creation that balances salt and sweet in ways that should not make sense but do. The Coconut Cold Brew returns every summer and people plan their visits around it. The Strawberry Pistachio gets layered in pink and cream and topped with freeze dried berries that crunch. Behind the counter sit baristas who pull shots on equipment that matters. They do manual pour overs with gooseneck kettles. They understand extraction times and water temperature. When you watch them work you see people who actually know coffee instead of just following a recipe card. The pastries come from local bakeries and rotate daily. Get there early if you want the almond croissants (buttery layers for days) or the cardamom buns on Tuesdays. The macarons are delicate enough to justify the price. Everything sells out because everything is actually good. The crowd is a mix. College students claimed corners with laptops. Friends catch up at small tables. Someone in the back is on a video call. The vibe stays relaxed even when the line stretches. Music plays at a volume that lets you think (rare these days). You can sit outside along the street and watch downtown Chandler move past you. This is the original location. The one that started it all in 2015 when Julia and Jeff Peixoto left corporate jobs to do something that mattered more. The space feels lived in now. Comfortable. A place that knows what it is and does not need to prove anything. Parking can require patience during peak hours. The place fills up on weekends. But there is a parking garage nearby that makes it work. And honestly, once you taste what they are doing here, you stop caring about the walk. This is what happens when a family decides their legacy matters more than scale. The farm connection is not a story they tell to sell coffee. It is the actual reason the coffee tastes this way. Worth the trip to downtown Chandler whether you stay for hours or just grab something perfect to go. See also Peixoto Coffee Roaster' Gilbert location.

Cafetal Coffee offers a heartfelt taste of Colombia right in the heart of Tempe! This is a true farm-to-cup experience, where the delicious and smooth coffee is grown on their own 6th generation family coffee farm before being locally roasted. You can taste the pride and passion in every single cup from a perfectly crafted latte to one of their wonderfully inventive seasonal creations. The food menu is just as incredible featuring authentic Colombian staples like delicious Arepas and savory Empanadas that perfectly complement the coffee. More than anything, what makes Cafetal so special is the atmosphere. Stepping inside feels like being welcomed into a family's living room! For a coffee experience that is as authentic and heartwarming as it is delicious, Cafetal is an absolute must visit. Check out other great Tempe Cafes near ASU.

What does coffee taste like when the family who grew it also roasts it and serves it to you? At Peixoto, you get to find out. They own their farm in Brazil. The family has been growing coffee there for over a century. This is not some marketing line about partnerships or fair trade stamps. This is actual crop to cup integration that maybe a handful of places in the entire country can claim. It matters because you taste the difference. The space itself feels like walking into a minimalist tech office but in a good way. Modern and airy with two floors. The upstairs has this loft situation with comfy chairs and outlets everywhere. People camp out here to work (like seriously camp out). You might have to hunt for a table during peak hours but the atmosphere makes it worth the search. The seasonal drinks get creative without being obnoxious about it. The Coconut Cold Brew comes back every summer and people lose their minds over it! The Hot Honey Latte has a cayenne kick that works better than it sounds like it should. The matcha is smooth and not chalky (which is rarer than you would think). You can get most drinks as either espresso or matcha. This is brilliant because some days you want caffeine that punches you in the face and other days you want something gentler. They use macadamia nut milk and oat milk. No almond milk though so do not ask. The baristas know what they are doing with pour-overs and actually use gooseneck kettles like they are supposed to. When someone takes the time to do manual pour-overs properly, you notice. Behind the bar sit two Sanremo Opera 3 group head espresso machines. That is six total group heads that could be working at any given time. This is serious firepower that lets them handle volume without sacrificing quality. The pastries rotate and come from local bakeries. Get there early if you want food because they sell out. The macarons are delicate and worth trying if they have them. On Tuesdays they do Swedish baked goods including cardamom buns with almond paste that are genuinely excellent. The variety keeps things interesting. At peak times, lines could look intimidating but they move fast. You will get your drink quickly even when the place is packed. The whole operation runs efficiently. Fair warning about pricing. A 16 ounce specialty latte will run you around eight bucks. Some people think this is reasonable for good coffee from a family farm while others think its steep for their daily routine. You decide where you land on that. This is what happens when a family decides to bring their century of coffee farming expertise to Arizona. The farm connection is real. The equipment is professional grade. The execution is there in every cup. Worth the trip to Peixoto in Agritopia whether you are settling in to work for hours or just grabbing something excellent to go. See also Peixoto Coffee Roasters' Chandler Location

When I am in a new neighborhood, I always check your directory to see what coffee shops near me are actually worth stopping for. I like knowing whether there is a good pour-over bar or a bakery attached before I walk in. It keeps me from settling for something that doesn’t fit what I want right now. Thank you!
Ema
Some mornings I am craving a single origin espresso, and not every Arizona coffee shop does that well (most use blends for shots). I just open the directory and look for the best coffee shop with a real espresso program near by. It’s nice not having to drive across town only to be disappointed.
Alexis
If I am meeting a client, I don’t want to risk picking the wrong spot. I’ll search the directory for a calm specialty coffee shop near him or near me depending on where we are meeting. It feels like the quickest way to find a place that won’t make the meeting awkward and still have quality drink.

The Curated Picks

My Favorite Arizona Cafe Experiences

Don’t want to jump in the directory right-away? I’ve journeyed through Arizona’s diverse landscapes and sipped countless brews. Here is a list of some of my favorite places and gems I hope will inspire you

hooligans-mesa-az

Hooligans Coffeehouse

East Mesa - 4537 S Power Rd

When I first heard the name Hooligans I admit I expected load music or maybe a broken chair but this east Mesa shop is actually a Modern Chill Hideout dedicated entirely to craft. This incredible spot is the shared vision of three lifelong friends Brinton Colburn Logan Antelman and Adam Holliefield who decided to merge their love for surfing skateboarding and perfect espresso. They even call their philosophy “caffeine-filled mischief” a motto that perfectly captures their playful approach to life and community.
The dedication is immediately clear when you look at the bar. They pull phenomenal shots on a gorgeous Modbar Espresso AV machine that is practically invisible tucked away under the counter. They intentionally use beans from Tucson’s Presta Coffee Roasters a serious global supplier recently named one of the top 100 coffee shops worldwide. This focus on curated excellence means they only serve concentrated 10 ounce drinks. If you want a 20-ounce milkshake go to the nearest chain they are busy focusing on flavor here!
Their in-house syrups are where their skill truly shines. Forget cloying sweetness, their lavender syrup delivers a sophisticated fragrant floral-spiced experience without drowning the espresso (Is that a hint of cardamom I taste?). Since opening in December 2024 the reception has exceeded all expectations. The owners are clearly focused on growing community roots and “enjoying the ride.” Go for the focused excellence and make sure you grab one of their incredible pastries which are far better than anything else you will find in this corner of the East Valley.

Lux Max Annex

Scottsdale (Kierland)- 16220 N Scottsdale Rd

If you know Lux Central the one in Midtown that feels like a beautiful high-end repurposed chaos jungle then prepare for the more polished Scottsdale cousin. LUX Max Annex opened in late 2019 near the Kierland area an ambitious third location run by the husband and wife team Jeff Fischer and Katie Calahan. They clearly brought the Central Phoenix hipster ideal with them but in a shinier Scottsdale package.
This is a Design-Forward Culture Hub. You are greeted by a massive pink metal sculpture by local artist Peter Deise which makes for a great Instagram moment right outside. Inside the focus on artistry over data is everywhere from the custom pink Origami tiles behind the espresso bar to the textured walnut glass and brass interiors. They eschew basic drip coffee entirely insisting on manual personalized brewing methods. This is an all-day commitment to quality they offer a full breakfast and lunch menu with excellent vegan and gluten-free options but thankfully no cocktails. You must try the pastries like the lemon tea cakes or cheese danishes. This place provides a chic sophisticated setting for your serious coffee date and is a delightful culinary adventure.

case-study-phoenix-az

Case Study Coffee Lounge

Phoenix - 4802 N 16th St

Case Study is my kind of shop. It proves that if you build something beautiful people will stop driving to Starbucks. The entire place started as a furniture showroom for the brilliant woodworker and Phoenix native William Douglas. His clients loved the furniture so much they demanded he start selling the specialty coffee he served them. I respect that hustle. This is a space dedicated to Studying in Style.
The owner’s dedication to craft is everywhere from the moody lighting to the pristine wood design which you immediately recognize as custom-made by a master craftsman. Don’t be fooled by the cozy small front room. When you finally venture around the corner you discover a huge annexed room with a dozen tables and ample lighting—it is basically a secret study hall. This second room even includes an artist room for local creatives.
The atmosphere is always pleasant and the staff is genuinely friendly which makes the whole place feel like a sophisticated escape. They are known for their creativity with signature drinks like the herbal Brown Sugar Sage Latte. I ordered the vanilla rosemary latte and it was the perfect aromatic twist on a basic drink. If you are looking for a place where the Wi-Fi is good, the furniture is gorgeous and the coffee is flawless then you found it! Just try to keep the drool off the walnut tables.

tamosan-coffee-lounge-scottsdale-az

Tamosan Coffee Lounge

Scottsdale (Paradise Valley Plaza)- 10269 N Scottsdale Rd

Tamosan is a newer specialty shop opening in 2024 and it confirms that Scottsdale still has surprises left for us coffee fanatics. I instantly respected the owners two brothers Alex and Tiam who clearly inherited a serious passion for artisanal food and farming from their grandmother Carol Steele. She is known as “the godmother of the Phoenix culinary scene” and that kind of legacy means this shop is built on serious quality. Their vision for a community spot that celebrates adventure is obvious in the spacious, relaxed setting and seasonal menus.

But here is the real story Tamosan is the Cold Brew Destination. While they feature selections from Mythical Coffee (arguably the best valley experimental coffee roaster) they are famous for their signature Tamosan Cold Brew. Many people consider this the best cold brew in Arizona and frankly I do get it. They achieve this reputation by crafting a vibrant fruit-forward flavor profile through expert brewing techniques. This is not your typical watery highly caffeinated dark sludge, it is bright unique and emphasizes quality over generic blends.

Tamosan’s drink menu is massive. It shows they are chasing every single health and wellness trend on the internet. You can get the classic Cortado or a V60 but then you notice the “Specials”! They offer a Charcoal Latte for the detox crowd. Then for the high-octane tech-bro crowd you can order a Bulletproof UPC or CBD 10MG because apparently a perfect cup of coffee is not enough to optimize your life. They even feature a baffling Bro Shake which I assume is for people who spent too long at the gym and forgot how to order regular food. If you are looking for pure focused quality, stick to the cold brew and enjoy the casual sipping over a conversation.

mythical-gilbert-az

Mythical Coffee Roasters

Gilbert - 1090 S Gilbert Rd

Mythical Coffee is a genuine titan of the East Valley scene a part of a newer wave that proves Gilbert is no longer a “dud” for great specialty coffee. When I first visited this shop it had been open for only two weeks and now it is an essential destination for any serious enthusiast.
The entire concept is built around in-house roasting and a deep commitment to quality. The focus is immediately apparent in their outstanding pour-over bar which features a rotating global selection of meticulously sourced single-origin coffees. You get detailed tasting notes which turn every cup into a global flavor journey.
Mythical’s atmosphere is the classic Arizona Minimalist aesthetic which means it is bright cozy and welcoming but often full because Gilbert is badly underserved by great shops. You might find yourself standing around wondering how long it will take someone to finish their drink. And speaking of unique drinks Mythical’s menu is pure Magical Creativity. You can find anything from a traditional flawless Cortado to a wildly creative and balanced Lavender & Blueberry Latte or a smoky Peach Bourbon Latte. I just hope you are not planning on ordering one of their bafflingly named Banana Colada drinks when the place is busy.
The baristas are true artisans consistently praised for their passion and incredibly friendly service. They also serve excellent food like Carrot Cake Muffins with Cream Cheese Drizzle and, if you are feeling nostalgic for elementary school, Fruity Pebbles Rice Krispies. Mythical is open daily from 7:00 AM to 4:00 PM and quickly became a favorite for locals searching for thoughtfully crafted specialty coffee.

In the heart of Tlaquepaque (pronounced Ta-la-keh-pah-kei) , The Chai Spot isn’t just a cafe… it’s a serene hidden oasis! Sagebrush Coffee Shop & Roastery

East Valley (Chandler) - 393 W Warner Rd

I remember when Chandler was a specialty coffee wasteland a place where a caffeine addict like me would never stop. Sagebrush is living proof that a meticulous engineering background combined with a decade-long obsession can fix anything. Matt Kellso the owner started this whole empire roasting beans right out of his small home kitchen on Sagebrush Court. The man ate coffee beans like candy as a kid that is the kind of commitment I respect. The vibe here is Engineer Zen all clean lines minimalist space yet somehow still welcoming and calm. They are serious coffee artisans traveling to origin and highlighting wild experimental processing methods like “unicorn” preparation. You must try their famous seasonal drink the Cloudy latte. It perfectly captures the exact scent of desert rain using orange and creosote a truly unique flavor experience. Just understand you do not come here to order a mess of custom syrups. They strictly refuse modifications to their specialty milk drinks because they are dedicated to those carefully balanced flavor profiles. It is a bold policy but it shows they care about the art. If you ask for an extra pump of artificial flavoring you might as well ask a three-star French Chef to bring you a shaker of MSG for the Beef Bourguignon. It is meant to be perfect already.

My Top Coffee places

Aruma Cafe

aruma-cafe-tempe-az

Location: 2011 E Apache Blvd.
Hours: Open Daily from
Website: https

When I heard the award-winning culinary team behind Cocina Chiwas opened a coffee shop I knew I had to go. I went expecting the usual Phoenix minimalist show but I got something far better. This place defines the Car-Free Culinary Flex. Located in that bizarre experimental Culdesac neighborhood Aruma perfectly marries high-end specialty coffee with profound Mexican culinary tradition. I felt truly spoiled watching the sunlight pour over the baby pink tiles. Forget a basic vanilla drink. You must try the sophisticated genius of a Pinole latte which delivers a warm nutty flavor. This culinary approach elevates the whole menu from the horchata to the Matzatli Matcha. I loved sipping a well-made classic Cortado while enjoying the beautiful design. The owners’ commitment to excellence is obvious. It feels completely unfair to the rest of Tempe’s coffee scene.

I have spent several years looking for a real counterpoint to the “Arizona minimalist aesthetic”, the white walls, the stark furniture, the polished concrete floors. Shaghf Cafe is that necessary escape. The name itself means passionate love in Arabic and you feel that deep devotion to the craft the moment you walk into this globally renowned but extremely rare US spot. Tempe is unbelievably lucky to have this level of Middle Eastern luxury. This is not some casual franchise. They are serious coffee artisans offering a full slow bar with advanced methods like Siphon and Chemex for a truly nuanced cup. You can try authentic Arabic qahwa with cardamom and ginger a genuine tradition often missing in the Valley. For pure indulgence, you must order their signature Pistachio Frappe or a slice of that famous viral Dubai chocolate. The combination of authentic recipes and commitment to high end manual brewing makes Shaghf a guaranteed essential stop for any true coffee connoisseur.

Indigo Room Coffee

Phoenix - 702 E Coronado Rd

Indigo Room is exactly the kind of unexpected gem I love uncovering in Phoenix. I have always appreciated the concept of a shop that is more than just a counter and this one is a True Hidden Gem. It is a small coffee stand tucked inside an old home that now functions as Urban Collective a vintage and antique store. I feel like I’m drinking a phenomenal Cortado inside a stylish friend’s incredibly cozy house.
The shop is a family affair run by Quinn Unrein and Carder Mehr who clearly value craftsmanship and community. Carder Mehr has the credentials I respect having previously worked at known Phoenix cafes like Press Coffee and Aftermarket.
For true connoisseurs the quality is instantly noticeable. They prepare every drink with great care on an awesome La Marzocco Linea Mini machine a piece of equipment that tells you immediately they are serious about their espresso. If you are not into pure espresso their menu is diverse featuring a Honey Cardamom Latte and a colorful Ube Latte. They are also praised for serving an excellent matcha.
The atmosphere is incredible. You get to browse the collectibles and feel that unique homey atmosphere while waiting for your drink. Some reviewers have even called Indigo the best in Phoenix.
Just make sure you plan your visit carefully as this is not a seven-day-a-week operation. Indigo Room operates Thursday through Sunday with weekday hours from 7 AM to 3 PM. They are truly worth tracking down.

By the time La La Land opened this Phoenix location at 44th and Camelback, the Valley already knew what it was getting. The Scottsdale debut a month earlier had taken care of the introductions. The Arcadia area location carries the same DNA. Bright white interiors, yellow accents, flowers, a merch wall and a staff that is aggressively, genuinely warm. If you have not encountered the La La Land experience before, the energy in the room can catch you off guard. In a good way. The drink lineup is the same as Kierland and that is not a complaint. The Banana Cloud Latte remains the crowd favorite. The Strawberry Cloud with matcha is worth ordering if you want something that feels a little less dessert-forward. The Upside Down Latte is the move if you want something closer to a traditional espresso drink with a little flair. Pastries are supplied by JL Patisserie and the avocado and Nutella toasts cover the food side well enough. What makes the Phoenix location feel distinct is context. Kierland is suburban and social. This one sits in Arcadia which is a neighborhood that already has strong coffee culture that gives it a slightly different gravitational pull. The people coming here are not all making a special trip. Some of them are just making it part of their routine. That is probably the best thing a coffee shop can become. Check out the other La La Land location in Scottsdale or view my Phoenix coffee shop guide.

What happens when a downtown coffee shop becomes the neighborhood living room for an entire generation of creatives? Lola Coffee sits at 1001 N 3rd Ave in the Roosevelt neighborhood. This is the flagship location. The original. The one that has been holding down this corner for over a decade. Owner Daniel Wayne started in coffee around 1992 with a six foot espresso cart in front of the Hub Building downtown. That cart expanded into multiple locations over the years. Lola Coffee became the named brand and the Roosevelt shop turned into a central Phoenix community hub. This is a family owned operation. Daniel often works behind the bar himself. The brand is built around pursuing the perfect espresso and creating a neighborhood gathering spot. It feels like an old school downtown staple where the regulars know each other by name. The espresso leans classic Phoenix third wave. Balanced with a touch of chocolate. Baristas move quickly but still remember usual orders. It is a reliable stop before a light rail ride or a walk through the Roosevelt Historic District arts venues. The Japanese Friendship Garden is walkable from here. The 3rd Ave shop has served as a community living room for students, creatives, and downtown workers for years. It embodies the original Lola vibe. Not chasing trends. Just making solid coffee and providing a space where people can actually gather. Service can vary depending on staffing and timing but the coffee quality remains consistent even when the service experience does not. Lola Coffee represents humble beginnings that evolved into something lasting. From a single cart to multiple locations. From a hustle to a neighborhood institution. The Roosevelt location is the heart of that story.   Checkout other Phoenix third wave coffee shops. View coffee shops that stay open late.

How does the same family coffee brand feel completely different in a different neighborhood? Lola Coffee opened a second location at 3950 E Indian School Road in Arcadia (Camelback East Village). This is the polished sibling to the Roosevelt flagship. Brighter. Cleaner lines. A layout that feels intentionally designed for lingering over lattes and breakfast rather than squeezing in between downtown meetings. The drinks here lean more dialed-in on presentation. Milk texture is consistently silky. Latte art is usually on point. The menu offers approachable specialty drinks that fit the neighborhood's brunch-and-bike-ride energy. The food program anchors this location as much as the coffee itself. You can have a breakfast sandwiche and pastries at proper tables instead of just grabbing a croissant on the way out. The crowd trends toward Arcadia locals and remote workers who treat this place as a daily ritual. The overall impression is a neighborhood cafe that carefully balances comfort, consistency, and just enough style to feel like a destination without becoming pretentious. This is Lola Coffee adapted for a different audience. Same family ownership. Same coffee quality. Different vibe entirely.

Phoenix’s best kept secret is a HIDDEN coffee roastery and cocktail bar with no sign! Lux Central is the unmarked industrial hotspot in Central Phoenix that locals are obsessed with. The catch? You have to find the entrance first. This is not a coffee shop that wants to be discovered easily. No sign marks the building. The entrance hides in the back parking lot. First time visitors circle the block multiple times before figuring it out. Once you step inside though, you understand why people keep coming back despite the scavenger hunt required to get here. This is where the magic happens. Lux Central roasts all the beans that end up at their Kierland location and in cups across the valley. You can watch the roasting process. You can smell it in the air. The commitment to quality starts here and radiates outward to everything they do. The space defies simple categorization. Coffee shop by day. Bar by night. Restaurant somewhere in between. This hybrid concept works because Lux Central commits fully to each role. Morning brings fresh pastries from their bakery team (Katie is not at this location but they have their own talented bakers). The Guatemala single origin and house blend get pulled into espresso drinks and pour overs. Afternoon shifts into lunch service. Evening transforms the space entirely as the bar takes center stage with craft cocktails that rival any dedicated cocktail lounge in the city. Walking into Lux Central feels like discovering a secret world. Industrial meets vintage across multiple connected rooms. Eclectic furniture creates dozens of distinct seating areas. Each room has its own character. Mismatched couches sit near communal tables. Cozy corners offer intimate spots. The decor pulls from different eras without trying to match anything. Concrete floors anchor the industrial vibe while vintage touches soften the edges. The layout sprawls in unexpected ways. You keep finding new rooms and alcoves you did not notice before. The energy here runs hot. This location buzzes with activity at almost every hour. Music plays prominently in the background. Conversations layer over each other. The bar gets lively as evening approaches. People pack into every available seat. The atmosphere skews loud and social rather than quiet and contemplative. This is not a place for peaceful reading or hushed conversations. The volume stays high. The crowd stays engaged. Students claim tables for laptop work during slower hours but weekends belong to the social scene. Parking presents an ongoing challenge. The small lot fills quickly. Street parking disappears during peak times. Plan to circle the block or walk a few blocks if you arrive during busy hours. The popularity creates its own friction. Everyone wants to be here. Not everyone can find a spot easily. The food program extends well beyond typical coffee shop offerings. Breakfast runs from scrambled eggs to biscuits and gravy. Lunch brings salads, sandwiches, and their famous mac and cheese. Dinner elevates things further with items like NY strip steak. The kitchen operates throughout the day with different menus at different times. Everything gets made fresh with quality ingredients. Cocktails deserve their own mention. The bartenders craft drinks with genuine skill and creativity. No printed cocktail menu exists. You tell them what you like and they build something custom. Service runs inconsistent based on who happens to be working. Some staff members bring warmth and attentiveness. Others deliver attitude or indifference. The experience can swing wildly depending on your luck. This inconsistency stands out as the main weakness in an otherwise strong operation. Lux Central proves that a coffee roastery can be so much more than just beans and espresso. The hybrid model works because each element gets executed well enough to stand alone. Great coffee. Solid food. Quality cocktails. The combination creates something unique in the Phoenix coffee landscape. The unmarked entrance and chaotic energy might not appeal to everyone. But for those who want their coffee experience served with volume, variety, and a dose of vintage industrial cool, this hidden roastery delivers exactly that. ▶Click to View the Drink Menu Note: Menu items are subject to change. What makes a cup of coffee truly worth the trip? At Moxie Coffee it is the incredible in-house roasting program combined with a phenomenal menu. Their dedication shows in the extensive selection of single origin pour-overs. This rotating list will delight any connoisseur. You might find the complex fruit notes of a Colombian Pink Bourbon or the floral delicacy of an Ethiopian washed process. The execution is always flawless. Non-coffee drinkers are treated with great respect here. The loose leaf tea program is stellar. Be sure to try the Yabukita Kabuse green tea or the Ichibancha Uji. The Oolong is fantastic too. The shop is quite popular so the vibe is often lively. It is full of chatter rather than quiet. That energy is part of the charm. You might need a little patience with parking during peak times. Do not miss the signature NOLA Style Iced coffee. You should pair it with the phenomenal browned butter chocolate chip cookie. Paris Baguette on N. Central Ave in Phoenix sits in a part of town that takes its coffee seriously. So let me be straight with you: this is not a specialty roaster or a third wave shop. It is a French inspired bakery cafe running Lavazza espresso and a standardized menu. On a site like this, that would normally be a dealbreaker. The pastries however are not normal. They are the reason this location earns a spot here, not the coffee. Sorry to my coffee aficionados. The Central Ave location has a calm & polished feel that fits the neighborhood well. Stylish without being pretentious. The kind of place where you can open a laptop or just sit quietly with something good in front of you. And for those Phoenix milder days, they do have a lovely front patio as a bonus. The espresso drinks are Lavazza-based which means a traditional Italian profile: darker roast, smooth, chocolatey and low on acidity. The milk drinks are well textured and consistent. Nothing here is going to surprise a specialty coffee enthusiast but everything is done with enough care that you will not be disappointed either. Think of the coffee as a very reliable companion to the main event. And the main event is the pastry case. The fruit and custard pastries are the ones to zero in on. Rich and fresh with that kind of quality that makes you reconsider your entire dessert philosophy. The croissants hold up beautifully and the sweet buns are hard to walk past without grabbing one. Friendly staff, comfortable seating and a European bakery atmosphere that feels like a genuine little escape from Central Ave traffic just outside the door. Paris Baguette is not trying to be your new favorite coffee destination. It is trying to be your favorite bakery that also happens to make a solid latte. On that front it succeeds completely.   ▶Click to View the Drink Menu Note: Menu items are subject to change. Some items could be seasonal and may not be available. In-House Roaster Probat Synesso
Phoenix
Press Coffee Roastery sits at 32nd Street and Shea in a two-story glassy industrial building that makes you stop and stare. This is the flagship location. The place where Press shows off what they can do. Look, Press Coffee has become one of Phoenix's most influential specialty coffee companies. They are not a small operation anymore. They supply beans to office taps, Sprouts grocery stores, and neighborhood cafes across the Valley. This Roastery is where it all happens. The space itself is impressive. High ceilings, natural light pouring in, and three massive Probat roasters on the ground floor. You can watch them roast beans while you drink your latte! The second floor is nice for working or lingering. Lots of laptops. Lots of meetings. Lots of people watching. I ordered an espresso and it was consistently good. Press leans toward balanced approachable blends rather than "experimental" single origins. That works for most people. The espresso bar covers classics and they also do playful shakers and specialty drinks. Batch coffee and pour-over options are solid. They also have loose leaf tea if coffee is not your thing. The atmosphere is energetic and busy. Sometimes too busy. The crowd can feel overwhelming during peak hours. Some people love that energy. Others find it distracting when they are trying to work or have a conversation. Know what you are walking into. Service is generally friendly and knowledgeable. Baristas know their stuff. But during rushes it slows down a bit. The food menu is breakfast focused and served until early afternoon. Pastries are available. I did not try the food but maybe on the next visit. Coffee is clearly the priority here. Press Coffee Roastery is the Valley's most accessible gateway to specialty coffee. Consistent beans. Strong cold brew program. A footprint that stretches across the entire Phoenix area. The Roastery showcases what Press does right. Great coffee in an impressive space. Just temper your expectations about speed and noise levels. This place works best when you have time to actually enjoy it. Looking for more great spots nearby? Does coffee taste better when the walls are made of glass and the ceiling reaches for the sky? Provision suggests that the answer is yes. This visually stunning two story Cafe feels like a sanctuary. The interior is bright and filled with lush plants. High ceilings and floor-to-ceiling windows create a breathtaking atmosphere. It operates as a coffee roaster and a cocktail bar with a full restaurant menu. The coffee program features their own roasted beans. They utilize a high end Eversys Enigma super automatic machine for consistent daily service. You might also spot a gorgeous Mavam under counter espresso machine for occasional use. The menu includes classic espresso drinks and creative specials. You should try the Honey Lavender Latte or the Habanero Mocha. The food is equally impressive. They utilize ingredients from respected local purveyors like acclaimed Noble Bread and Chula Seafood. You can order brunch classics such as Avocado Toast or Smoked Salmon Bagels. It is important to know that this is a place to disconnect. The establishment intentionally limits Wi-Fi access to ensure tables remain available for dining. There is no service on Fridays and weekends. Provision is designed to be an escape. It is the perfect destination to put your phone down and indulge. Discover other favorites locals love. Proaster Wega
Phoenix
There is something special about finding a place that feels like a secret. Even when you know exactly where it is. Serafina sits up in North Phoenix. It is tucked into a shopping center surrounded by mountains and golf courses. The drive out here rewards you with an experience that justifies every minute. The space is rustic-industrial chic done right. Exposed brick covers the walls. Concrete floors stretch below. Visible ductwork runs overhead. The bones are industrial. What keeps it from feeling cold is the warm lighting. Natural wood accents soften everything up. Behind the counter sits a world map tapestry. An eclectic art gallery decorates the brick wall at the opposite side. You get the sense that the people running this place actually care about more than just espresso shots. Though they definitely care about those too. Then there is that shiny red and silver roaster near the entrance. You will often see it actively working. It is turning green beans into something magical. What really gets me is the philosophy. Damian Serafine brought specialty coffee to Phoenix back in 1994. This was before Starbucks even showed up locally. He trained in New York. He got certified as a barista then decided the Valley deserved better. Now three decades later he is still at it. He is still focused on direct-trade relationships with small family farms. He is still obsessed with getting the bean right. He is still making people feel like family. This is someone's life's work. Right now (fall 2025) Serafina is doing something bold. They are specializing exclusively in Mexican Chiapas beans. Medium body. Notes of chocolate and brown sugar. The kind of focus that comes from really knowing what you are serving. They also got a slow bar with pour-overs and even a French press. A beautiful red Wega Vela machine pulls shots. A seasonal menu shifts with intention. Think "Bonfire" Think "The Scarecrow" with toffee and pumpkin cream. Think a "Cinderella" Pumpkin Latte that probably tastes like fall. The whole thing feels like walking into a place where people actually know what they are doing. The dog friendly vibe is genuine. The coffee reflects years of thoughtfulness. It is not chasing trends. If you are in North Phoenix and you haven't made the drive up there yet, you should. ▶Click to View the Drink Menu Note: Menu items are subject to change. La Marzocco
Phoenix
Sip Coffee and Beer Garage in Phoenix feels like someone turned a service bay into a hangout and then never stopped adding reasons to stay. It is open and a little industrial but somehow still comfortable enough to disappear into your laptop for hours. By day it is a full on coffee shop. And they are serious about it. Two La Marzocco Lineas sit behind the barista counter. Not one. Two! Maybe they needed the volume. Maybe they just really like La Marzocco. Either way, two is better than one. Custom blends, espresso drinks and a steady stream of breakfast burritos and sandwiches keep the place humming. The drive thru adds that very Phoenix convenience so you can grab an Breakfast Burrito and a latte without leaving the car. Then circle back later to actually sit and hang out. The patio here is genuinely beautiful. Shaded and comfortable with that Arcadia energy around you. Dog friendly too. The kind of outdoor space where you sit down for a quick coffee and look up an hour later wondering where the time went. As evening hits, things get interesting. There is a whole cocktail lounge hiding under the cafe. The playlists stay loud enough to feel alive but not chaotic. For a one stop Arcadia spot that covers coffee, work time and a proper night out, this place does the job without breaking a sweat. Enjoyed this spot? La Marzocco
Phoenix
Songbird Coffee & Tea House has been a Roosevelt Row institution since 2012 and it is not hard to see why. The shop lives inside a restored 1904 bungalow on N. 3rd St in the Evans Churchill arts district and the building does a lot of the work before you even order anything. There is a front porch. In Phoenix. At a coffee shop. That alone is worth the visit when the weather cooperates. Inside it feels like being welcomed into a well loved home. Art on the walls, cozy corners and the kind of calm that downtown Phoenix does not always make easy to find. It is a legitimate work and study spot and the neighborhood energy around it makes stepping outside feel like a bonus rather than a chore. The coffee comes from Infusion Coffee Roasters in Tempe which is one of the more serious and respected names in the Arizona specialty scene. The espresso drinks are well made and consistent. But the tea program here is genuinely exceptional and deserves equal billing. Loose leaf selections come from Maya Tea Company out of Tucson and the menu is extensive enough to satisfy anyone who takes their tea as seriously as their espresso. Kombucha comes from Milly Moon Kombucha, a local Valley producer and is made using organic tea and whole organic fruits. Every partner on the menu is a small Arizona business and that is a deliberate choice you can taste. The pastries are house made. This puts Songbird in a small and respectable category of shops that actually mean it when they say fresh. Songbird has been around long enough to become a neighborhood anchor and it has earned that status the right way. Note: This coffee shop is closed and appears to be out of business. Once I confirm, I'll report back and update or remove this listing. Can a simple morning drink capture the distinct flavor of downtown ambition? The Grind by Chic Chef certainly attempts to do just that. It is located right in the heart of Downtown Phoenix. The space feels modern and stylish with polished concrete floors. You will see exposed brick walls too. This is a concept by celebrity chef Nik Fields. Her presence is felt throughout the shop. The menu names match this high-energy theme. You can order drinks like The Hustler or The Visionary. The Hustler mixes cold brew with caramel and hazelnut. It is quite sweet and strong. I also recommend the Boss Babe. It is a matcha latte with a splash of lavender syrup. You might enjoy the Glow-Up if you like banana and hazelnut flavors. There are food options available. They offer waffles and yogurt parfaits (often served with fresh fruit). You should know something about the brewing method before you go. The shop uses an automatic espresso machine instead of a traditional manual one. The texture is different from what you get at a specialty roaster. The drinks are consistent but they are not for coffee purists. The staff makes the experience worthwhile. They are incredibly warm and welcoming. Anela is often praised for her helpfulness. This spot is a lifesaver if you have jury duty across the street. Parking is difficult in this area. You might have to circle around to find a spot. The Grind is a great choice if you want good vibes and a creative drink. Curious what else Phoenix has to offer? Discover other independent coffee shops in Phoenix

URBO Urban Bodega in downtown Phoenix has a menu that includes espresso drinks, iced frappes, smoothies and hot food. That opening sentence probably raised an eyebrow or two among the craft coffee crowd. Fair enough. A coffee shop inside a convenience store is not exactly the usual territory covered on this site. But URBO earns its place here and I will explain why. First, the machine. The espresso bar runs on a two-group La Marzocco Linea. If that name means nothing to you, just know it is the same industry workhorse sitting behind the counter at many of the serious third wave shops in the Valley. Consistency, shot quality, proper milk steaming. That machine does not end up in a bodega by accident. Second, the beans. URBO uses WeBe Swingset, a blend from the acclaimed WeBe Coffee Roasters which I reviewed separately on this site. It is a medium roast made from washed and natural processed specialty grade coffee. Tropical fruit, caramel and milk chocolate are the characteristics/notes that come through. These are real specialty and well sourced beans. The kind of thing you would find at a dedicated craft shop. Third, and this one actually matters quite a bit: the hours. Hot espresso drinks are available until 6:30 PM. Cold brew runs all the way to 11 PM. By the time most third wave shops have flipped the sign and wiped down the portafilters, URBO is still pulling shots. For late study sessions or long work stretches downtown, that alone changes the math. The food side covers breakfast sandwiches and fresh pizza (a Margherita or a prosciutto, if you want to make a moment of it). There is also a small front patio with a few benches where you can sit in the shade and watch the foot traffic and cars move along Fillmore St. Is it a specialty coffee destination? No. Is it a smart, practical option with better coffee than it has any reason to serve? Absolutely. Sometimes that is exactly what you need. ▶Click to View the Drink Menu Note: Menu items are subject to change. Some items could be seasonal and may not be available. How does a family run coffee shop in Phoenix manage to pull the perfect espresso shot while also baking fresh pastries every morning and still remember your name? WhereUBean Coffee has been operating since 2013 with a simple philosophy. They hand-pull every espresso shot and brew every tea to order. Nothing comes from a machine preset or a batch made hours ago. The shop uses Intelligentsia Direct Trade Coffee (specifically their Black Cat Espresso blend). This matters because the beans are sourced through direct relationships with farmers rather than commodity markets. You can taste the difference in the brightness and complexity of each shot. The menu offers traditional options done correctly. Their Cappuccino follows the classic one-third ratio of espresso to steamed milk to foam. The Cubano (a house specialty) pulls Black Cat Espresso with raw sugar and tops it with steamed half and half mixed with cinnamon. Customers frequently mention this drink in reviews as a standout. Their Cold Brew deserves attention. The shop makes it in small batches and steeps it for 24 hours in cold water. This process creates a smoother and more concentrated coffee with higher caffeine content than traditional hot brewing methods. The result is clean and punchy without the bitterness that often comes from rushed cold brew operations. The seasonal drinks rotate throughout the year. Current options include Pumpkin Pie Cold Brew and Maple Tahini Silk variations across their latte and matcha offerings. These are not premade syrups from a distributor. WhereUBean makes their seasonal syrups in-house. Pastries and baked goods come from their own kitchen in small batches. Reviews specifically praise the Lemon Lavender Scone. The Caramel Macchiato also receives consistent mentions (one reviewer called it the best in the city). The atmosphere functions as a community hub. Regulars report that staff members remember their orders and names. This creates a welcoming environment that balances the energy of a busy coffee shop with the comfort needed for laptop work or conversation. WhereUBean Coffee is where you go when you want coffee made by people who care about both the product and the person drinking it.

What is the precise moment when a grueling climb up South Mountain transforms into a perfect morning? For many in the Ahwatukee adventure seekers, that moment arrives the second they step into Wonderift Coffee. It is located within the Equestrian Centre just minutes from the Pima Canyon Trailhead. This shop is a purpose-built basecamp for hikers and locals. The concept was born from the owners honeymoon in Kauai. They fell in love with the casual vibe of the roadside coffee shacks on the island. They brought that spirit back to Phoenix. You can feel comfortable here in dusty trail runners or business casual attire. The shop features garage style doors that roll up to let in the desert breeze. This creates an airy indoor-outdoor flow. It is modern and minimalist yet undeniably warm. You will see bikes mounted on the walls and plenty of racks outside. Cyclists often roll in straight off the Warner-Elliot Loop. They even sell locks onsite if you forgot yours. The coffee program is anchored by local Arizona roaster Provision Coffee. The menu is creative without being pretentious. The undisputed star is the Banana Bread Latte. It is made with a house made banana bread syrup and garnished with a dried banana coin. This drink has earned a loyal following for tasting exactly like its namesake without being too sweet. You might prefer something refreshing. The Agave Shakerato offers espresso shaken over ice with organic blue agave and milk. This results in a phenomenal layer of foam. You can also taste the Southwest in a cup with the Sonoran Mocha. It mixes Ancho Chile Cacao powder with a chilled agave cream top. Tea lovers are treated with equal respect thanks to a partnership with Maya Tea. Try the refreshing iced Prickly Pear Herbal or a warming Spicy Chai. Wonderift leans heavily into local partnerships for their food. The bagels are sourced from South Phoenix favorite Bagelero. The Jalapeno Cheddar and Rosemary Parm Garlic bagels are massive. They are served soft and flaky with generous portions of cream cheese. The house-baked goods are just as impressive. You must try the namesake Banana Bread. It is nut-free to accommodate allergies. The biggest surprise might be the gluten free coffee cake made with almond flour. It is incredibly moist and delicious! Wonderift offers a welcoming and high energy vibe. It is perfect for fueling up before a long ride or winding down after a hike. You will often see the owners working behind the bar. It is a local gem that captures the adventurous spirit of the mountain right next door.   Love trying new cafes?
