Buckeye
DeGiNo Coffee in Buckeye, AZ is a family owned coffee bar with a menu rooted in beans grown on the owners' own family plantation in Nayarit, Mexico. This one has a story worth knowing. Inocente and Tania Cayetano are third generation coffee growers. Their family has been cultivating Arabica beans in the highlands of Nayarit for generations. Growing at high altitude in shaded terrain without chemicals or pesticides. At some point the family decided to bring that heritage directly to the cup and DeGiNo was born. Before the brick and mortar shop existed they were running a food truck. The shop came later. The beans are organically grown, full bodied and low acid. And if you fall in love with your cup, bags are available to take home. The space is small and full of character. Comfortable inside with a cute little patio out front that adds to the overall charm. It can get lively when packed but that is usually a sign that a neighborhood has found its spot. The staff here genuinely stands out. Every person I interacted with had a warm and positive attitude that felt completely natural rather than scripted. Small touches such as writing positive notes on the cups are nice. It sounds minor but it sets the tone for the whole visit in a way that is hard to forget. DeGiNo is the kind of place that earns your loyalty fast. A real family story, honest coffee and a team that makes you feel like a regular on your first visit. ▶Click to View the Drink Menu Note: Menu items are subject to change. Flagstaff
Flagstaff has a hidden gem that brings the authentic soul of Chiapas Mexico right to the mountains. Mayan Winds Coffee Emporium is easily one of the most heartwarming spots you will find in town because the owners source organic beans directly from family farms in Latin America. You can taste the difference in every single cup and I was blown away by the rich Mexican Mocha which has just the right kick of cayenne and cinnamon. You really need to ask for a sample of their traditional cacao or honey while you are there because the owner loves sharing the history behind them. The vibe is super peaceful with vinyl records playing in the corner and plenty of comfy seating. Do not leave without trying a pistachio muffin or a spicy chai because they are absolute game changers.

Think your local coffee shop really knows its beans? Peixoto does not just know them, they grew them! On their family farm in Brazil where the Peixoto name has been tied to coffee for over a century. Walk into this place and the first thing that hits you is the light. High ceilings pull your eyes up to exposed beams and industrial touches that somehow feel warm instead of cold. Hanging pothos plants cascade down from above (and they look healthy, which means someone here actually cares). The space breathes. Natural sunlight pours through the windows and catches on the glassware they use for every drink. These are not paper cups. Your latte arrives in actual glass that shows off the layers and the foam art. The smell is what keeps you there. Fresh roasted coffee with none of that burnt edge you get at places that do not understand their beans. Peixoto roasts light to let the natural flavors come through. Their espresso leans bright and fruity. It tastes different because it is different. This is honey processed coffee from their own farm at Fazenda Sao Jose da Boa Vista in Minas Gerais. The seasonal menu changes with intention. Right now you might find a Hot Honey Latte with cayenne that somehow works. Or a Kettle Corn creation that balances salt and sweet in ways that should not make sense but do. The Coconut Cold Brew returns every summer and people plan their visits around it. The Strawberry Pistachio gets layered in pink and cream and topped with freeze dried berries that crunch. Behind the counter sit baristas who pull shots on equipment that matters. They do manual pour overs with gooseneck kettles. They understand extraction times and water temperature. When you watch them work you see people who actually know coffee instead of just following a recipe card. The pastries come from local bakeries and rotate daily. Get there early if you want the almond croissants (buttery layers for days) or the cardamom buns on Tuesdays. The macarons are delicate enough to justify the price. Everything sells out because everything is actually good. The crowd is a mix. College students claimed corners with laptops. Friends catch up at small tables. Someone in the back is on a video call. The vibe stays relaxed even when the line stretches. Music plays at a volume that lets you think (rare these days). You can sit outside along the street and watch downtown Chandler move past you. This is the original location. The one that started it all in 2015 when Julia and Jeff Peixoto left corporate jobs to do something that mattered more. The space feels lived in now. Comfortable. A place that knows what it is and does not need to prove anything. Parking can require patience during peak hours. The place fills up on weekends. But there is a parking garage nearby that makes it work. And honestly, once you taste what they are doing here, you stop caring about the walk. This is what happens when a family decides their legacy matters more than scale. The farm connection is not a story they tell to sell coffee. It is the actual reason the coffee tastes this way. Worth the trip to downtown Chandler whether you stay for hours or just grab something perfect to go. See also Peixoto Coffee Roaster' Gilbert location.

Cafetal Coffee offers a heartfelt taste of Colombia right in the heart of Tempe! This is a true farm-to-cup experience, where the delicious and smooth coffee is grown on their own 6th generation family coffee farm before being locally roasted. You can taste the pride and passion in every single cup from a perfectly crafted latte to one of their wonderfully inventive seasonal creations. The food menu is just as incredible featuring authentic Colombian staples like delicious Arepas and savory Empanadas that perfectly complement the coffee. More than anything, what makes Cafetal so special is the atmosphere. Stepping inside feels like being welcomed into a family's living room! For a coffee experience that is as authentic and heartwarming as it is delicious, Cafetal is an absolute must visit. Check out other great Tempe Cafes near ASU.

What does coffee taste like when the family who grew it also roasts it and serves it to you? At Peixoto, you get to find out. They own their farm in Brazil. The family has been growing coffee there for over a century. This is not some marketing line about partnerships or fair trade stamps. This is actual crop to cup integration that maybe a handful of places in the entire country can claim. It matters because you taste the difference. The space itself feels like walking into a minimalist tech office but in a good way. Modern and airy with two floors. The upstairs has this loft situation with comfy chairs and outlets everywhere. People camp out here to work (like seriously camp out). You might have to hunt for a table during peak hours but the atmosphere makes it worth the search. The seasonal drinks get creative without being obnoxious about it. The Coconut Cold Brew comes back every summer and people lose their minds over it! The Hot Honey Latte has a cayenne kick that works better than it sounds like it should. The matcha is smooth and not chalky (which is rarer than you would think). You can get most drinks as either espresso or matcha. This is brilliant because some days you want caffeine that punches you in the face and other days you want something gentler. They use macadamia nut milk and oat milk. No almond milk though so do not ask. The baristas know what they are doing with pour-overs and actually use gooseneck kettles like they are supposed to. When someone takes the time to do manual pour-overs properly, you notice. Behind the bar sit two Sanremo Opera 3 group head espresso machines. That is six total group heads that could be working at any given time. This is serious firepower that lets them handle volume without sacrificing quality. The pastries rotate and come from local bakeries. Get there early if you want food because they sell out. The macarons are delicate and worth trying if they have them. On Tuesdays they do Swedish baked goods including cardamom buns with almond paste that are genuinely excellent. The variety keeps things interesting. At peak times, lines could look intimidating but they move fast. You will get your drink quickly even when the place is packed. The whole operation runs efficiently. Fair warning about pricing. A 16 ounce specialty latte will run you around eight bucks. Some people think this is reasonable for good coffee from a family farm while others think its steep for their daily routine. You decide where you land on that. This is what happens when a family decides to bring their century of coffee farming expertise to Arizona. The farm connection is real. The equipment is professional grade. The execution is there in every cup. Worth the trip to Peixoto in Agritopia whether you are settling in to work for hours or just grabbing something excellent to go. See also Peixoto Coffee Roasters' Chandler Location

When I am in a new neighborhood, I always check your directory to see what coffee shops near me are actually worth stopping for. I like knowing whether there is a good pour-over bar or a bakery attached before I walk in. It keeps me from settling for something that doesn’t fit what I want right now. Thank you!
Ema
Some mornings I am craving a single origin espresso, and not every Arizona coffee shop does that well (most use blends for shots). I just open the directory and look for the best coffee shop with a real espresso program near by. It’s nice not having to drive across town only to be disappointed.
Alexis
If I am meeting a client, I don’t want to risk picking the wrong spot. I’ll search the directory for a calm specialty coffee shop near him or near me depending on where we are meeting. It feels like the quickest way to find a place that won’t make the meeting awkward and still have quality drink.

The Curated Picks

My Favorite Arizona Cafe Experiences

Don’t want to jump in the directory right-away? I’ve journeyed through Arizona’s diverse landscapes and sipped countless brews. Here is a list of some of my favorite places and gems I hope will inspire you

hooligans-mesa-az

Hooligans Coffeehouse

East Mesa - 4537 S Power Rd

When I first heard the name Hooligans I admit I expected load music or maybe a broken chair but this east Mesa shop is actually a Modern Chill Hideout dedicated entirely to craft. This incredible spot is the shared vision of three lifelong friends Brinton Colburn Logan Antelman and Adam Holliefield who decided to merge their love for surfing skateboarding and perfect espresso. They even call their philosophy “caffeine-filled mischief” a motto that perfectly captures their playful approach to life and community.
The dedication is immediately clear when you look at the bar. They pull phenomenal shots on a gorgeous Modbar Espresso AV machine that is practically invisible tucked away under the counter. They intentionally use beans from Tucson’s Presta Coffee Roasters a serious global supplier recently named one of the top 100 coffee shops worldwide. This focus on curated excellence means they only serve concentrated 10 ounce drinks. If you want a 20-ounce milkshake go to the nearest chain they are busy focusing on flavor here!
Their in-house syrups are where their skill truly shines. Forget cloying sweetness, their lavender syrup delivers a sophisticated fragrant floral-spiced experience without drowning the espresso (Is that a hint of cardamom I taste?). Since opening in December 2024 the reception has exceeded all expectations. The owners are clearly focused on growing community roots and “enjoying the ride.” Go for the focused excellence and make sure you grab one of their incredible pastries which are far better than anything else you will find in this corner of the East Valley.

Lux Max Annex

Scottsdale (Kierland)- 16220 N Scottsdale Rd

If you know Lux Central the one in Midtown that feels like a beautiful high-end repurposed chaos jungle then prepare for the more polished Scottsdale cousin. LUX Max Annex opened in late 2019 near the Kierland area an ambitious third location run by the husband and wife team Jeff Fischer and Katie Calahan. They clearly brought the Central Phoenix hipster ideal with them but in a shinier Scottsdale package.
This is a Design-Forward Culture Hub. You are greeted by a massive pink metal sculpture by local artist Peter Deise which makes for a great Instagram moment right outside. Inside the focus on artistry over data is everywhere from the custom pink Origami tiles behind the espresso bar to the textured walnut glass and brass interiors. They eschew basic drip coffee entirely insisting on manual personalized brewing methods. This is an all-day commitment to quality they offer a full breakfast and lunch menu with excellent vegan and gluten-free options but thankfully no cocktails. You must try the pastries like the lemon tea cakes or cheese danishes. This place provides a chic sophisticated setting for your serious coffee date and is a delightful culinary adventure.

case-study-phoenix-az

Case Study Coffee Lounge

Phoenix - 4802 N 16th St

Case Study is my kind of shop. It proves that if you build something beautiful people will stop driving to Starbucks. The entire place started as a furniture showroom for the brilliant woodworker and Phoenix native William Douglas. His clients loved the furniture so much they demanded he start selling the specialty coffee he served them. I respect that hustle. This is a space dedicated to Studying in Style.
The owner’s dedication to craft is everywhere from the moody lighting to the pristine wood design which you immediately recognize as custom-made by a master craftsman. Don’t be fooled by the cozy small front room. When you finally venture around the corner you discover a huge annexed room with a dozen tables and ample lighting—it is basically a secret study hall. This second room even includes an artist room for local creatives.
The atmosphere is always pleasant and the staff is genuinely friendly which makes the whole place feel like a sophisticated escape. They are known for their creativity with signature drinks like the herbal Brown Sugar Sage Latte. I ordered the vanilla rosemary latte and it was the perfect aromatic twist on a basic drink. If you are looking for a place where the Wi-Fi is good, the furniture is gorgeous and the coffee is flawless then you found it! Just try to keep the drool off the walnut tables.

tamosan-coffee-lounge-scottsdale-az

Tamosan Coffee Lounge

Scottsdale (Paradise Valley Plaza)- 10269 N Scottsdale Rd

Tamosan is a newer specialty shop opening in 2024 and it confirms that Scottsdale still has surprises left for us coffee fanatics. I instantly respected the owners two brothers Alex and Tiam who clearly inherited a serious passion for artisanal food and farming from their grandmother Carol Steele. She is known as “the godmother of the Phoenix culinary scene” and that kind of legacy means this shop is built on serious quality. Their vision for a community spot that celebrates adventure is obvious in the spacious, relaxed setting and seasonal menus.

But here is the real story Tamosan is the Cold Brew Destination. While they feature selections from Mythical Coffee (arguably the best valley experimental coffee roaster) they are famous for their signature Tamosan Cold Brew. Many people consider this the best cold brew in Arizona and frankly I do get it. They achieve this reputation by crafting a vibrant fruit-forward flavor profile through expert brewing techniques. This is not your typical watery highly caffeinated dark sludge, it is bright unique and emphasizes quality over generic blends.

Tamosan’s drink menu is massive. It shows they are chasing every single health and wellness trend on the internet. You can get the classic Cortado or a V60 but then you notice the “Specials”! They offer a Charcoal Latte for the detox crowd. Then for the high-octane tech-bro crowd you can order a Bulletproof UPC or CBD 10MG because apparently a perfect cup of coffee is not enough to optimize your life. They even feature a baffling Bro Shake which I assume is for people who spent too long at the gym and forgot how to order regular food. If you are looking for pure focused quality, stick to the cold brew and enjoy the casual sipping over a conversation.

mythical-gilbert-az

Mythical Coffee Roasters

Gilbert - 1090 S Gilbert Rd

Mythical Coffee is a genuine titan of the East Valley scene a part of a newer wave that proves Gilbert is no longer a “dud” for great specialty coffee. When I first visited this shop it had been open for only two weeks and now it is an essential destination for any serious enthusiast.
The entire concept is built around in-house roasting and a deep commitment to quality. The focus is immediately apparent in their outstanding pour-over bar which features a rotating global selection of meticulously sourced single-origin coffees. You get detailed tasting notes which turn every cup into a global flavor journey.
Mythical’s atmosphere is the classic Arizona Minimalist aesthetic which means it is bright cozy and welcoming but often full because Gilbert is badly underserved by great shops. You might find yourself standing around wondering how long it will take someone to finish their drink. And speaking of unique drinks Mythical’s menu is pure Magical Creativity. You can find anything from a traditional flawless Cortado to a wildly creative and balanced Lavender & Blueberry Latte or a smoky Peach Bourbon Latte. I just hope you are not planning on ordering one of their bafflingly named Banana Colada drinks when the place is busy.
The baristas are true artisans consistently praised for their passion and incredibly friendly service. They also serve excellent food like Carrot Cake Muffins with Cream Cheese Drizzle and, if you are feeling nostalgic for elementary school, Fruity Pebbles Rice Krispies. Mythical is open daily from 7:00 AM to 4:00 PM and quickly became a favorite for locals searching for thoughtfully crafted specialty coffee.

In the heart of Tlaquepaque (pronounced Ta-la-keh-pah-kei) , The Chai Spot isn’t just a cafe… it’s a serene hidden oasis! Sagebrush Coffee Shop & Roastery

East Valley (Chandler) - 393 W Warner Rd

I remember when Chandler was a specialty coffee wasteland a place where a caffeine addict like me would never stop. Sagebrush is living proof that a meticulous engineering background combined with a decade-long obsession can fix anything. Matt Kellso the owner started this whole empire roasting beans right out of his small home kitchen on Sagebrush Court. The man ate coffee beans like candy as a kid that is the kind of commitment I respect. The vibe here is Engineer Zen all clean lines minimalist space yet somehow still welcoming and calm. They are serious coffee artisans traveling to origin and highlighting wild experimental processing methods like “unicorn” preparation. You must try their famous seasonal drink the Cloudy latte. It perfectly captures the exact scent of desert rain using orange and creosote a truly unique flavor experience. Just understand you do not come here to order a mess of custom syrups. They strictly refuse modifications to their specialty milk drinks because they are dedicated to those carefully balanced flavor profiles. It is a bold policy but it shows they care about the art. If you ask for an extra pump of artificial flavoring you might as well ask a three-star French Chef to bring you a shaker of MSG for the Beef Bourguignon. It is meant to be perfect already.

My Top Coffee places

Aruma Cafe

aruma-cafe-tempe-az

Location: 2011 E Apache Blvd.
Hours: Open Daily from
Website: https

When I heard the award-winning culinary team behind Cocina Chiwas opened a coffee shop I knew I had to go. I went expecting the usual Phoenix minimalist show but I got something far better. This place defines the Car-Free Culinary Flex. Located in that bizarre experimental Culdesac neighborhood Aruma perfectly marries high-end specialty coffee with profound Mexican culinary tradition. I felt truly spoiled watching the sunlight pour over the baby pink tiles. Forget a basic vanilla drink. You must try the sophisticated genius of a Pinole latte which delivers a warm nutty flavor. This culinary approach elevates the whole menu from the horchata to the Matzatli Matcha. I loved sipping a well-made classic Cortado while enjoying the beautiful design. The owners’ commitment to excellence is obvious. It feels completely unfair to the rest of Tempe’s coffee scene.

I have spent several years looking for a real counterpoint to the “Arizona minimalist aesthetic”, the white walls, the stark furniture, the polished concrete floors. Shaghf Cafe is that necessary escape. The name itself means passionate love in Arabic and you feel that deep devotion to the craft the moment you walk into this globally renowned but extremely rare US spot. Tempe is unbelievably lucky to have this level of Middle Eastern luxury. This is not some casual franchise. They are serious coffee artisans offering a full slow bar with advanced methods like Siphon and Chemex for a truly nuanced cup. You can try authentic Arabic qahwa with cardamom and ginger a genuine tradition often missing in the Valley. For pure indulgence, you must order their signature Pistachio Frappe or a slice of that famous viral Dubai chocolate. The combination of authentic recipes and commitment to high end manual brewing makes Shaghf a guaranteed essential stop for any true coffee connoisseur.

Indigo Room Coffee

Phoenix - 702 E Coronado Rd

Indigo Room is exactly the kind of unexpected gem I love uncovering in Phoenix. I have always appreciated the concept of a shop that is more than just a counter and this one is a True Hidden Gem. It is a small coffee stand tucked inside an old home that now functions as Urban Collective a vintage and antique store. I feel like I’m drinking a phenomenal Cortado inside a stylish friend’s incredibly cozy house.
The shop is a family affair run by Quinn Unrein and Carder Mehr who clearly value craftsmanship and community. Carder Mehr has the credentials I respect having previously worked at known Phoenix cafes like Press Coffee and Aftermarket.
For true connoisseurs the quality is instantly noticeable. They prepare every drink with great care on an awesome La Marzocco Linea Mini machine a piece of equipment that tells you immediately they are serious about their espresso. If you are not into pure espresso their menu is diverse featuring a Honey Cardamom Latte and a colorful Ube Latte. They are also praised for serving an excellent matcha.
The atmosphere is incredible. You get to browse the collectibles and feel that unique homey atmosphere while waiting for your drink. Some reviewers have even called Indigo the best in Phoenix.
Just make sure you plan your visit carefully as this is not a seven-day-a-week operation. Indigo Room operates Thursday through Sunday with weekday hours from 7 AM to 3 PM. They are truly worth tracking down.

Berdena's in Phoenix is a bright and modern specialty coffee shop in the Camelback East Village neighborhood. The menu includes espresso drinks, creative specialty lattes, an exceptional breakfast and brunch selection and fresh in-house baked pastries. You already know Berdena's. Or at least...you should. The Berdena's Scottsdale location has been a local favorite since 2017 and this Phoenix outpost in Camelback East Village brings the same energy to a Fredo neighborhood. The setup is familiar. Bright, modern and small enough that it fills up fast. If you go on a weekend and expect to waltz in and grab a seat, temper those expectations. But it is worth the wait. The breakfast and brunch menu is the real draw here. The Smashed Avocado Toast has the reputation for a reason. The Breakfast Sandwich holds its own. And if you are hungry, Stevie's Big Boy Burrito is the move. The pastry case is also worth your attention. The croissants and cinnamon rolls are made in-house and are the kind of thing that makes you regret not ordering two. On the coffee side, Berdena's runs a multi-roaster program and the menu has the common drinks. The classics are done well and the specialty lattes (Honey Lavender and Cardamom Rose among them) use house-made syrups that give the drinks a floral character you will not find at most shops. Both locations are worth visiting. But if you are on the Phoenix side of town, you no longer have an excuse to drive to Scottsdale.   View my Phoenix city coffee shop guide.

Cafecito in Phoenix has a menu built around Mexican coffee culture, and it earns its place among the better coffee spots in the city. It sits inside Otro Cafe tucked into the Uptown / North Central corridor close to the Phoenix Mountain Preserve. The coffee bar was born when Otro Cafe's ownership (Doug Robson and partner Carlos Diaz) knocked through a wall into the neighboring storefront. Phoenix New Times described it as a love letter to Mexican coffee culture, and that feels right. The whole thing was built to handle brunch overflow from next door, but it has grown into its own thing entirely. The beans come from Esso Coffee, a local female owned roastery chosen for its caramel and chocolate leaning darker roast profile. The coffee is strong and well prepared. It does not try to be delicate or tea-like. It wants to be bold and it pulls that off. The specialty drink menu is where things get fun. The horchata latte and the cajeta latte are the ones people talk about most and they are both worth trying. Cafe de olla inspired drinks and licuados round out a menu that feels genuinely connected to Mexican tradition rather than just borrowing the aesthetics. The pastries deserve their own mention. They are made in house and are one of the best in the area. Fresh, flavorful and the kind of thing that makes it harder to say no when you are just "stopping by for a coffee". The space itself is chill. Latin music plays, the bar seating works well for solo visits and the vibe leans relaxed rather than performative. If you live nearby, it is easy to make this becoming a regular stop. It is also a natural fit for anyone coming off a morning hike at Piestewa or up in the Phoenix Mountain Preserve area. One thing worth knowing: if you end up here and the smell of Otro Cafe's food starts pulling at you, that is not a problem unique to you. Their pancakes have a reputation for a reason. ▶Click to View the Drink Menu Note: Menu items are subject to change. Some items could be seasonal and may not be available. Look, Case Study Coffee (menu below) in Phoenix is basically the cool kid's coffee shop. And honestly I get why. The vibe is sophisticated and moody. The lighting is perfect. Everything is designed to make you feel like you stepped into a design magazine. Just so you know, parking can be brutal during rush hour and weekends. But here's the thing. The coffee is absolutely worth the hunt. I started with their regular latte and it was fantastic. They roast their own beans in house. You can taste the care they put into it. Then I got adventurous with the matcha latte. It was smooth and exactly what I needed on a lazy afternoon. The real conversation starter? Their Dark Horse Latte. It is one of their signature drinks. It is a little smoky with dark maple and smoked salt. It's like drinking a campfire but make it fancy. Just kidding. It was really good but fair warning though, I would order mine less sweet next time because it leans a bit heavy on the maple situation. At Case Study, they are pulling shots on a beautiful La Marzocco GB. That tells you they are not messing around with their espresso game. Here is the secret nobody mentions at first: There is an awesome back room. The front has just a sofa and a few chairs. But look toward the opposite side from the ordering counter. You'll find a hallway that leads to a decent sized room with tons of seating and tables...etc. Plenty of power outlets too - the works. Perfect if you want to actually spread out and work or hang. Case Study is where you go when you want great coffee in a space that actually gets it.   ▶Click to View the Drink Menu Note: Menu items are subject to change. Where else can you satisfy a craving for a professional cappuccino and a gourmet sundae at 11 PM? This highly popular dessert shop in Phoenix has earned a reputation for serving ice cream that is incredibly rich and creamy. The interior features an inviting instagram ready design that looks great in photos. While most people come for the delicious treats like the Smores sundae or the Peanut Butter Cup Lil Freezie (which is packed with Reeses) the coffee program is equally impressive. The baristas use a two group head BFC Lira machine to pull high quality espresso for every drink. You can enjoy your latte or mocha on the cozy back patio. This outdoor space is perfect for cool nights because it features a large tree and gas heating lamps. There is plenty of seating with umbrellas and beautiful string lights to create a relaxing mood. What happens when you combine church leadership experience, nonprofit community work, and a passion for quality coffee? Collective Coffee opened in March 2025 in the former Hanai Coffee space on West Southern Avenue. Juan and Tina Chavez (founders of South Phoenix church and the nonprofit AZ Reach) partnered with Aaron and Dana Daile to create something bigger than espresso and pastries. They built a genuine community hub for South Phoenix and Laveen. Look, the mission here is not subtle. Collective Coffee exists "from our community, for our community." The space directly ties into AZ Reach's mentorship programs (link below), grief support, entrepreneurship training, and financial literacy workshops for local high school students. You can feel that energy the moment you walk in. The coffee comes from a nonprofit roaster Cultivate Coffee in Sunnyslope that I reviewed last year. Collective does not roast in-house but they chose their partner carefully. The beans are solid and the espresso drinks are consistently well made. Try the Copper Latte (espresso with caramel, agave and cardamom) or the Horchata Latte if you want something beyond the standard menu. The specialty drinks menu leans creative without crossing into gimmick territory. The Tuxedo Latte has handcrafted cookies and cream sauce with crushed Oreos. That's what my wife got and I stole a few sips when she was looking away... 🙂 The drink actually tasted good. Food comes from other South Phoenix businesses. Pastries are from Red Velvet Bakery. The breakfast burrito includes house made chipotle sauce and a side of green salsa. The avocado toast on sourdough is legitimately excellent (avocado, chipotle sauce, cotija, pickled onion, cilantro, red pepper flakes, tomato). The space itself is family friendly and they even have high chairs for the little ones. There is indoor seating and bar seating. The vibe feels comfortable and lived in rather than trying too hard to be trendy. You can post up for hours without feeling rushed. Collective hosts regular community events and gatherings. This is not background noise marketing. They actually function as a neighborhood gathering spot where people know each other and the staff remembers your name (not mine because I live on the other side of town and only made it here once so far for this review, but I will definitely swing by again whenever I am in the area). South Phoenix and Laveen needed this. A real local coffee shop that invests back into the community instead of just extracting profit. Collective Coffee delivers on that promise with quality drinks and food that support the mission. ▶Click to View the Drink Menu Note: Menu items are subject to change. Can a neighborhood cafe truly transport you to Paris while situated in the heart of the desert? Cupz N Crepes claims the title of "Ahwatukee’s Favorite Cafe" for good reason. It offers a charming escape with its Parisian inspired decor. The atmosphere is cozy and eclectic. This is a place where you are meant to linger rather than rush. The menu is massive. The drink selection alone might overwhelm you at first glance. It features sections like Hot Cupz, Iced Cupz, and Blended Cupz. You can customize these with dozens of flavors ranging from Almond Roca to Toasted Marshmallow or even Blood Orange. The cold brew is frequently praised for being strong and smooth. The food menu splits between savory and sweet options. Local favorites include the rich Monte Cristo or the fresh Turkey Pesto. If you have a sweet tooth you should try the Banana Nutella or Blueberry Cream Cheese crepe. You should know that the service style is often described as "no-nonsense" or brisk. Do not expect a corporate coffee shop pace here. It is a family-owned spot where patience is sometimes required. The wait can be long on weekends. However the loyal locals will tell you the food is absolutely worth the time.   Checkout other Phoenix Cafes that also serve crepes.

Daydreamer Coffee Downtown Phoenix is an Instagram-ready specialty coffee shop inside Moon Tower. Modern aesthetic, signature lattes, matcha drinks in the heart of Roosevelt Row arts district. Daydreamer Coffee opened in October 2024 inside this luxury 24-story apartment tower that has become a landmark in downtown Phoenix's Roosevelt Row arts district. If you're not familiar with Moon Tower, it's not just a residential building. It's a statement. Designed with organic materials and curated urban landscaping, the building houses seven local artists living rent free in an artist-in-residence program. The entire property is integrated with a seriously thoughtful local art collection. We are talking a building that was deliberately built to be part of Roosevelt Row's creative ecosystem and not just sitting in it. The location is perfect. Adjacent to bike racks, positioned for Roosevelt Row foot traffic, and seamlessly woven into the building's lobby for residents. The space itself is what everyone notices first. Bright. Airy. Modern. Ample indoor seating and a patio that invites you to linger. The coffee program is intentional and pared back. Baristas pull shots on a La Marzocco Strada which is one of the most precise and capable espresso machines ever built. Which means every drink starts with serious technical foundation. The menu focuses on espresso drinks, matcha, chai, and specialty teas. The signature lattes rotate seasonally but include standouts like the Berry Fields Latte (blackberry, brown sugar, lavender cold foam) and the Honey Oat Latte (oat milk, honey syrup). The Blueberry Dream Matcha pairs butterfly pea infused blueberry with vanilla and matcha for something genuinely creative. Pastries come from Noble Bread (a top rated bakery with multiple locations in the valley). The food offerings are kept light and quality focused. This isn't a full restaurant. It's a coffee bar with intention. Daydreamer is actually part of an Austin-founded chain with locations in Georgia, Ohio, Texas and Florida. You wouldn't know it though. The Phoenix location feels local and connected to the neighborhood. It's part of why it works here. Moon Tower itself is positioned right in the heart of Roosevelt Row's gallery and arts scene. Just steps from local restaurants, galleries, bars, and cultural events. The building's commitment to supporting artists and integrating art into daily life extends down to the ground floor cafe. This isn't just where you grab coffee. It's where Roosevelt Row's community gathers. The space has seen rapid evolution. Fleet Coffee was here before, focused on specialty coffee and cocktails, then came Moontower Social Club with brunch and Italian fare. Daydreamer stripped back the concept to pure specialty coffee, which feels like the right call for this location and this moment. They maintained the beautiful modern design and layout, then refined the mission. Whether you are a Moon Tower resident, a Roosevelt Row gallery visitor, or someone seeking a productive work session in a genuinely beautiful space, Daydreamer delivers. The ambiance works for focused work, casual meetings, or just sitting with your Honey Oat Latte and watching downtown Phoenix happen around you. Downtown Phoenix's creative energy meets specialty coffee. That's Daydreamer. See why Daydreamer Coffee is featured in my curated best coffee shops in Phoenix.   Discover other favorites locals love. Fair Trade Cafe in Downtown Phoenix, AZ is a Latina owned coffee shop and community space in the heart of the Roosevelt Row Arts District. The full menu is listed below. I first heard about Fair Trade Cafe when the owner Stephanie Vasquez appeared on Arizona Family (Channel 3). She was talking about everything being made fresh with no preservatives and I was already sold before the segment ended. Add the fact that it sits in one of my favorite parts of Phoenix and a visit was inevitable. Stephanie opened this place in 2007. That kind of staying power in Downtown Phoenix means something. The shop operates around a "coffee with a conscience" philosophy. The coffee is shade grown, organic and fair trade sourced. The food is made in house. The mission is genuine and you can feel it in the room. And what a room it is. High ceilings, rotating local art on the walls and a vibe that feels decorated with actual culture rather than a designer's idea of culture. Every month a different local artist gets the walls. The work is available for purchase too. It is a quiet but meaningful way to support the local art scene and it gives the space a personality that changes with the city around it. There are two places to sit. The front area faces the street and has more foot traffic and energy. The back patio is tucked into an alcove behind the building and feels almost hidden. I split my time between both and the back patio was the better find. Shaded and calm. A small escape from the Phoenix sun. I had the matcha. It was high quality, well balanced and not overly sweet. Exactly what I wanted. Service was slow but fine. Be prepared to wait 10 or more minutes for your drink. That seems to be the norm here rather than the exception. Free parking is available in the garage attached to the building from the back side. ▶Click to View the Drink Menu Note: Menu items are subject to change. Can you truly find great espresso in a shop famous for its cereal-milk ice cream? Located in downtown Phoenix, Fatty Daddy is a reliable destination that masters both artisanal treats and premium coffee. While many visit for the rich small-batch ice cream in unique flavors like Fruity Pebbles or Banana Peanut Butter, the professional 2-group La Marzocco machine ensures every latte and mocha is crafted to an excellent standard. These drinks pair perfectly with signature offerings such as the Cookie Cup featuring a marshmallow torched right before you or the soft and pillowy Hong Kong egg waffles. As these items are crafted in small batches with specialized toppings, expect a premium price point that reflects the boutique nature of the menu. Just stick to the coffee and scoops and stay away from the boba and milk teas if you want to keep your experience top-tier. The shop stays open until 9:30 PM on weeknights and 11:00 PM on weekends, which leads one to wonder where else you can find a quality espresso at such a late hour in the city? With a cozy atmosphere and a reputation for friendly staff, this is the perfect spot for those who take their desserts and their coffee seriously. This is just one option... Froth Coffee Roasters in Phoenix features a creative coffee menu (see photos) and serves as a local favorite with a warm atmosphere and a convenient drive thru. I was driving near downtown the other day and even though I was already heavily caffeinated from all the espresso shots that I had that morning, I could not help myself and decided to stop by Froth Coffee Roasters. This place has such a cool story. It actually started because the original owners could not find a vintage coffee van for their wedding. So they just went ahead and built their own business instead. Now the shop is proudly owned and operated by Beth and Souban. They are roasting beans in house and also serving coffee from Sedona Coffee House. I took a look at the menu and it is definitely bold. They have a drink called the F-Bomb which is basically four shots of espresso with caramel and dark chocolate. I am pretty sure that drink could power a small city. I decided to try the Cactus Sap instead. It has layers of flavor and is not too sweet so the coffee still comes through which is exactly what I want. The atmosphere inside is warm and low key. It is very cozy and welcoming rather than being airy. The music is good and it has a relaxed vibe that is perfect for studying or just chilling. There is also plenty of seating outside for those nice Arizona days. It is a designated LGBTQ+ and transgender safe space which gives it a great energy. One of the highlights was the adorable and friendly shop dog that was happy to be petted. If you are in a rush they even have a drive-thru. If you are looking for a coffee shop that takes its craft seriously without all the noise and distraction, you have to check this place out.   Looking for more coffee shops? The walls and the glowing ceiling create a stage for the coffee. I love how the room refuses to compete with what actually matters. The passion here is evident in how they source exceptional beans. What truly sets them apart is that single origin is the star. While the classic espresso is flawless, you absolutely must explore the inventive and Latin-inspired signature creations. I went for the "CAJETA" latte. It uses goat milk caramel that tastes like a deep, nostalgic memory (kind of like candy from childhood). It felt sophisticated... Then there is the "MAZAPAN de la Rosa" latte. Each drink on the focused menu is a curated creation. Nothing here feels like a novelty. The presentation turns a simple order into a full ritual. Cups arrive on a wooden tray with a small glass of sparkling water and a card for tasting notes. You watch the baristas work with quiet focus and measured gestures. Some may not like the slower pace but I think those people miss the point. The slowness is the whole idea. The design invites you to notice and to pause. It is not a spot for fast laptop turnover or large groups. This place respects the bean by treating every cup like it is a masterpiece. It weaves Mexican heritage into a modern specialty program without any fluff or pretense. You leave feeling like you witnessed a performance. It is an essential Phoenix destination that stays with you long after the caffeine wears off.   ▶Click to View the Drink Menu Note: Menu items are subject to change. Good News Phoenix in downtown Phoenix is a Christ centered specialty coffee shop that opened in early 2026. If you need a calm spot to work, study or simply sit, this one is worth knowing about. There are plenty of coffee shops in Phoenix that nail the aesthetic. Fewer nail the feeling. Good News Phoenix is going for something different. The Scripture and Christian themes on the walls make the mission clear from the moment you walk in, and the environment backs it up. People come here and stay. It is the kind of place that earns the label "go to spot" pretty quickly. The coffee comes from Case Study Coffee, which is a serious and reassuring choice for a shop this new. Quality beans, quality espresso. No corners cut on that front. The space is calm, the tables are plentiful and the staff brings a warmth that you notice. Whether you are here to get work done, read or just exist for a while, the shop seems genuinely built for that. Not every coffee shop wants you to linger. This one does. It is early days for Good News Phoenix but the foundation is strong. A welcoming room, quality coffee and a clear sense of purpose. That is a good start by any measure.   ▶Click to View the Drink Menu Note: Menu items are subject to change. Some items could be seasonal and may not be available.
