Flagstaff
Late for theLate for the Train has been a Flagstaff staple since the early 90s, located right in the heart of downtown across from Heritage Square. It is a popular spot for students and tourists alike, known for its spacious outdoor courtyard lined with aspen trees and a distinct "old Flagstaff" vibe. They roast their own beans in-house, generally favoring darker, classic roast profiles, and serve a wide variety of scratch-made pastries and grab-and-go breakfast burritos. If you are looking for a place to unwind that does not involve alcohol you need to visit Awa Kava & Coffee immediately. This spot has a totally unique hippie vibe that feels more like hanging out in a friend's living room than standing in a business. They specialize in traditional Kava and Kratom teas which are plant-based drinks known for relaxation and focus. I recommend you try the Muddy Chai because it mixes the earthy taste of Kava with sweet spicy chai and coconut cream for a perfect balance. It is one of the few places in Flagstaff open late so you can play board games or sit by the fire pit well into the evening. The staff is incredibly knowledgeable and they will happily guide you through the menu if you are new to these root-based beverages.

Wicked AZ Coffee is a convenient drive-thru and walk-up stand in Flagstaff serving strong espresso drinks to people on the go. You can drive right up to the window to order a sugary specialty latte like the Pistachio Dark Chocolate or the Snickers. They offer plenty of sweet options and smoothies if you are not in the mood for hot coffee. I noticed they also have pup cups for your dog which is a nice touch. Just so you know the coffee quality can be hit or miss here because some locals report burnt espresso or grounds in their cup.

Cedar House Coffee Shop & Bakery is a cozy local favorite located in the Sunnyside neighborhood that feels just like a friend's living room. You will find a beautiful fireplace inside that makes it the perfect spot to curl up with a book on a snowy Flagstaff morning. They are famous for their pastry case because they bake everything fresh in-house every single day. You absolutely have to try the chocolate banana turnover or their flaky cruffins. They brew high-quality beans from local roaster Single Speed Coffee which guarantees a fresh and flavorful cup. I highly recommend ordering a seasonal specialty drink like the Brown Butter Honeycomb latte. Just so you know there is no public restroom available due to the kitchen layout so you should plan your visit accordingly.

Lund Canyon Coffee brings a distinct taste of London to Flagstaff with exclusive Square Mile beans and an incredibly cozy European atmosphere. You need to meet the owner Mahmoud because he treats every customer like family the moment they walk through the door. It honestly feels like you walked into a friend's living room with all the mismatched chairs and colorful local art covering the walls. The coffee quality here is unmatched since they import their beans all the way from the UK to ensure a perfect extraction every time. You have to try The Greek which is a sweet iced espresso drink with foamed milk that will absolutely change your life. They do not serve standard drip coffee here so be ready to order a proper Americano or a slow pour-over instead. The pastries are baked fresh in house and the spinach feta roll is the perfect savory pairing for your morning brew.

White Dove Coffee is a hidden local gem tucked away in a strip mall on the east side of Flagstaff. If you are looking for a spot that feels like a warm hug you need to visit this cafe immediately. This cozy shop sits quietly off the beaten path but the inside feels like a rustic cabin with a fireplace and plenty of comfortable seating. You will see a Nuova Simonelli machine on the bar where they pull rich Cubano shots for their signature Revelation mocha. They roast their own beans in small batches and the aroma hits you the second you walk through the door. I highly recommend you try the blueberry scone or the massive breakfast burrito because they make the eggs fresh in house. It is the perfect place to curl up on a vintage sofa with a White Dove Special and just relax.

This is not just another coffee stop on Historic Route 66. Firecreek Coffee Company is the actual beating heart of downtown Flagstaff. The space feels like a sanctuary built for artists and students who need somewhere real to land. High red walls surround you. A massive stage hosts live events. The whole atmosphere pulls you in and refuses to let go. This location serves as the main hub for their six Arizona spots. You can also walk over to their original roastery on South San Francisco Street (just a few blocks away). That is where they roast beans for the norther part of the state. The smell alone is worth the detour. The menu here balances adventure with comfort. Order the Campfire latte. It comes topped with a toasted marshmallow that melts into the espresso and creates this smoky finish. It pairs perfectly with the dark moody interior. You feel like you are sitting around an actual campfire without the bugs or smoke in your eyes. Do not settle for a basic tea bag situation here. They serve Hugo Tea and it is exceptional quality. The Gui Shan Oolong is lightly oxidized with notes of wildflower honey, sandalwood and white pepper. It tastes incredibly sophisticated (which I was not expecting from a coffee shop tea menu!). The vibe shifts in the evening. Firecreek has a full liquor license. They serve coffee cocktails like the Whiskey Chai. It turns the place into something between a cafe and a bar without fully becoming either one. Be prepared for a line on weekends. Locals and tourists both pack this place. Grab a seat on one of the worn leather couches if you can. Watching the crowd is worth the wait. Firecreek Coffee Company Phoenix location serves the Valley with the same quality and care. Firecreek Coffee Sedona brings mountain town magic to every cup.

Flagstaff has a hidden gem that brings the authentic soul of Chiapas Mexico right to the mountains. Mayan Winds Coffee Emporium is easily one of the most heartwarming spots you will find in town because the owners source organic beans directly from family farms in Latin America. You can taste the difference in every single cup and I was blown away by the rich Mexican Mocha which has just the right kick of cayenne and cinnamon. You really need to ask for a sample of their traditional cacao or honey while you are there because the owner loves sharing the history behind them. The vibe is super peaceful with vinyl records playing in the corner and plenty of comfy seating. Do not leave without trying a pistachio muffin or a spicy chai because they are absolute game changers.

What happens when a father and son bring twenty years of Seattle coffee expertise to Arizona? Matador Coffee Roasting Co. was founded in 2005 by Jack and Mario Martusciello. Mario had already spent over two decades in the coffee business and owned a shop in Seattle (arguably the coffee capital of the United States). He decided it was time to move back to Arizona and start something new. Instead of just opening another cafe, he launched a wholesale roasting operation dedicated to sourcing exceptional beans from around the world. This East Side location sits in the Marketplace at the base of Mount Elden. If the Milton location is the hectic hub for travelers and students, this spot is where locals go to actually hear themselves think. The space is cleaner and more expansive. You can spread out at a large table without fighting for elbow room. Order the Thin Mint latte. It tastes exactly like the famous cookie (minty and chocolatey without being too sweet). The espresso still comes through. You are not just drinking a liquid dessert. They serve hearty breakfast burritos and pastries here. Same quality as the main branch. This makes it a solid pit stop if you are heading out to Sunset Crater or Wupatki National Monument. Fuel up before the drive. The vibe is calm and functional. You can work without distraction. You can meet a friend without shouting. The coffee is consistently excellent because Matador roasts their own beans and has been doing it long enough to know what perfection actually tastes like. Matador Coffee Roasting Co. proves that experience matters. Two decades of roasting knowledge in every cup you drink. Check out the flagship Matador Coffee location. What does it say about a coffee shop when it roasts beans in a converted auto garage and still draws lines out the door? Matador Coffee Roasting Company's Milton Road flagship occupies a former auto service station. The space still has those massive garage doors. There is a separate drive-thru window in the parking lot. The whole setup feels industrial and functional in the best way possible. This is where the Martusciello family does the actual roasting. You can see their equipment right there on site. They use a Primo Roasting PRI series gas roaster and an impressive Coffee Crafters Artisan series Air roaster. The espresso machine is an Astoria Perla SAE. I am telling you this because it matters. Good equipment in experienced hands produces exceptional coffee. The menu here goes beyond standard cafe fare. Sure, you can get a latte. But you should try one of their signature drinks instead. Try the Dirt Clod or the Raspberry Truffle. These are not gimmicky flavored syrups pretending to be coffee. They are actual crafted beverages that taste like someone put thought into them. The breakfast menu is substantial. Hearty burritos and bagel sandwiches will fuel you for hours. This is not a pastry-and-go situation. You can actually eat a real meal here. The patio is dog-friendly. Locals bring their dogs and settle in. Travelers along the Route 66 corridor stop here because the coffee is legitimately good and the vibe is welcoming without trying too hard. This location functions as a high-volume operation. They sell bulk beans right from the roastery. You might wait in line on a Saturday morning. The wait is worth it because Matador has been perfecting this since 2005. Two decades of roasting knowledge lives in this converted garage. You can taste the difference.   Checkout the other Rt. 66 Matador location in Flagstaff. View top coffee shops in next door Sedona.

If you are looking for the absolute freshest beans in Flagstaff where you can literally watch the roasting magic happen, you need to get yourself to Single Speed immediately. This place is a total vibe for anyone who geeks out on gear and bean origins, and I honestly love that you can grab a seat in the cozy upstairs loft to look down at their "lab" while you sip. Just so you know, true craft takes time here, so do not expect a quick "drive-thru" experience when the line gets long or the baristas are dialing in a shot. They really push the boundaries with their roast profiles and extraction, which means the flavor is often adventurous and bold rather than safe and predictable. You have to try a single-origin pour-over or the Flagstaff Fog, but do not sleep on the McLovin breakfast sandwich because it is life-changing.

Prepare to be obsessed with what I think is the best bakery in Tucson. Seriously, this place is the real deal... a true passion project where quality is everything. It is a tiny charming spot where you can sit at the counter and watch the mother-daughter team work their magic in the open kitchen. The stars here are the incredible pastries and artisan breads. You croissants! The lamination is just perfect. But what really sets them apart is their sourdough program. They have a specific bread schedule with sourdough loaves and focaccia available on certain days. It is absolutely worth planning your visit around! The coffee is just as thoughtfully prepared with shots pulled on the legendary La Marzocco Linea and enhanced with house made syrups like cardamom or honey lavender. Ugh, you just need to get there early because they sell out fast for a reason. This is a must visit!

Sonoran House in Tucson's historic Rincon Market is a sunup-to-sundown destination in the Sam Hughes neighborhood. This new location elevates the coffee experience. It transitions from a morning cafe into an upscale restaurant and cocktail bar. They serve their own small-batch roasted coffee including the signature Sonoran Roast for espresso. Chef Gabriella Alba curates a menu of upscale Sonoran fare from a scratch kitchen. Enjoy everything from a Breakfast Crunchwrap to mesquite smoked tri-tip and craft cocktails like the highly-praised espresso martini. The space also includes a market with curated local goods. For a true Tucson experience that blends exceptional coffee with a high-end culinary focus, pay Sonoran House a visit.

Carino Coffee Bar is an adorable pink coffee cart in Tucson. It's a beloved local gem run by owners Jon and Itzel. They create a cozy and welcoming spot with a relaxed, artsy charm. The shop's commitment to craft is evident in their choice of an elite La Marzocco espresso machine. This machine allows for exceptional control over espresso extraction. The menu features creative, high-quality drinks like the Matzatli Matcha with pineapple spice tepache and the La Adelita latte.

By Day It's Coffee...By Night it's Something Else Entirely! Bar Crisol Exo sits in Tucson's historic Barrio Viejo as a beautiful extension of Exo's coffee mission and the founders' deep connection to Mexico. Housed in a converted bungalow, this cafe feels less like a business and more like stepping into the warm and stylish home of a friend. The space is genuinely magical. Multiple cozy rooms overflow with antiques and art inviting you to settle in and linger. The real standout is the stunning sun filled patio, a tranquil garden oasis perfect for disconnecting and savoring the moment. This is a place that intentionally forgoes Wi-Fi encouraging genuine conversation & relaxation instead of constant connectivity. For the coffee lover, the menu showcases Exo's roasted beans with precision and care. Every drink demonstrates commitment to craft from perfectly pulled espresso shots to inventive and balanced creations like the spicy-sweet Chiltepin Cold Brew and the fragrant Orange Cardamom Latte. As evening arrives, Bar Crisol-Exo transforms into something different. The space becomes a destination for curated mezcal tastings and cocktails. It is a place where Tucson's coffee tradition seamlessly blends with Mexican craftsmanship.

This is not a coffee shop. Adventure Coffee Roasting is a roaster only with no public cafe. However, they are included in this directory as an great source for quality coffee beans to take home. Find organic and locally roasted coffee from Adventure Coffee Roasting, a second-generation family-run business in Tucson. Their story began in 1982 when a single exceptional cup of coffee in Quebec sparked a decades long passion. The journey evolved from roasting beans in a popcorn popper to professional training and eventually selling at local farmers markets. In 2007, they established their first roastery and later expanding to their current facility with two Diedrich roasters to meet growing demand. Today, the business continues its mission of quality and sustainability. Their coffee can be found at local farmers markets and retail partners throughout Tucson. Please note that the Espresso Roast is known for being very dark which may present a challenge for some brewing setups and taste preference. Their commitment to quality and dedication to organic roasting make them a solid local worth seeking out at farmers markets and retail stores.
