The Cafe @ Regroup in Tempe is a specialty coffee shop and high end bicycle studio serving exclusive Mythical Coffee beans with a Slayer espresso machine. Usually these sorts of fusion places are a recipe for disaster, but this one is awesome and it is exactly what you think it is. Here you can enjoy your cappuccino while looking at a shiny new bike. Maybe you could ask about aerodynamics and lightweight carbon fibers while eating a pastry. You do you.
But here is the thing. The coffee side is not just window dressing. When you walk in and see that Slayer Steam LP espresso machine sitting there on the bar, you know someone is taking this seriously. That machine looks like a piece of art. All polished and imposing and ready to make some really good coffee.
And they do make really good coffee. Regroup uses Mythical beans (which makes sense because Mythical is one of the top roasters in Gilbert), but they have gone deep with that relationship. They have an exclusive Ethiopian Natural that Mythical roasted just for them. You cannot even get it at Mythical itself. That is pretty wild. Unfortunately, the espresso is a blend rather than single origin and you don't get to choose which beans are going into your espresso but at least you'll get the consistency across all those milk drinks.
The slow bar situation here is legit too. When I went they had a Colombia Monteblanco Kumquat and a Costa Rican called Phoebus available for pour overs. Those are the kinds of coffees that make you stop and think about what you are drinking instead of just mindlessly scrolling through your phone.
I got a Tiramisu Latte because I am weak and cannot resist specialty drinks with dessert names. It was really well balanced. Not too sweet. The flavors were integrated all the way through instead of having syrup just sitting at the bottom waiting to ambush you on the last sip. My regular latte was fantastic too. The espresso was dialed in perfectly and the milk texture was on point. Only complaint (and this is me being picky) is that it ran a bit cool. I like my lattes hot enough that I have to wait a minute before drinking them. But that is a personal preference thing.
The food here deserves mention because they use Noble Bread for their sandwiches and toast. If you know anything about East Valley bakeries, you know Noble Bread (Mesa location) is the real deal. Using their bread immediately elevates everything. You are not getting some sad grocery store loaf. You are getting legitimately great bread that makes even a simple toast situation feel special.
Now about the bike side of things. This place sells proper high-end bikes. Like the kind where you need to have a serious conversation with yourself (and maybe your spouse) before pulling the trigger. They have testing and fitting equipment upstairs and clearly know what they are doing on the cycling front. When I went on a Saturday afternoon they had closed their parking lot for some event with fancy bikes and Teslas. Tesla reps were there and everything. People were climbing in and out of cars while presumably talking about watts per kilogram or whatever cyclists talk about. I parked on the street in the neighborhood next door and it was fine.
The vibe is good. Everyone working there was friendly. The space feels modern without being cold. And there is something amusing about being in a place where you can decide whether to spend five dollars on a latte or twelve thousand dollars on a custom bicycle. Both options are available. Both seem equally reasonable in the moment.
If you are into coffee or bikes (or both), this place is worth checking out. The Mythical exclusive alone makes it interesting for coffee nerds. And if you are not into bikes at all, that is fine too. The coffee stands on its own. Just maybe do not accidentally lean on a twelve thousand dollar bike while you are sipping your pour over.
